From Taegan Goddard:

NYT/CBS Poll: Obama Rebounds Nationally

Sen. Barack Obama "appears to have rebounded from some of the damage caused by the controversy surrounding his former pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright," according to the latest CBS News/New York Times poll.

"On one key measure, Obama has seen a big reversal since his denunciation of Wright's remarks on Tuesday. He now leads presumptive Republican nominee John McCain in the hypothetical fall contest by eleven points, 51% to 40%. That compares to a tied match-up in a CBS News/New York Times poll that was released last Wednesday."

"...Among Democratic primary voters (those who have voted or plan to vote in a Democratic primary) Obama's lead over Clinton has increased -- he now leads Clinton by twelve points, 50% to 38%. That's up from his eight point lead in the poll released just a few days ago."

Big Question:

Will Clinton (as HuffPo suggests) 'go nuclear' at the convention or will she "obliterate" herself before then?

Big Answer:

Obliterate herself before the RBC meeting in June.

Even if she chose to drag on until then, she likely only has the votes on that committee to issue a 'minority report'. Should she decide to 'go nuclear' at the convention absent a plurality in the pledged and super delegates, she can kiss her political career goodbye.

Any specific point that you disagree with Dennis?

Counter-Arguments?

Not sure what to make of 'goofy', at least in a reasoned rationl sense. I think that each of my poll sources or opinions are well-founded. Maybe you can offer something intelligent that adds to the debate?

Then again, maybe not...

i will not enter into a dialogue with anyone who refuses to accept that reverend wright and the sf comments have had a significant impact on obama..perhaps fatal..all you guys do is act like it didn't happen...so please..don't talk rationale..you ain't the guy

Telling Mary, very telling...

So two cheers for Mr. Bernanke. Unfortunately, his very success — if he has succeeded — poses another problem: it gives the financial industry a chance to block reform.

Jeez, move on past the SF comments and Wright issue Dennis. People have their mind made up by now.

It's no different than you not excepting her "sniper fire" comments weren't damaging to her trustworthiness or Clinton defectors saying her campaign has gone negative.

Posted by Seven of Six at May 5, 2008 06:25 AM

Longer dennis: "I will not enter into a dialogue with any Dem who does not weigh fake media-driven nonsense exactly as I do or who comes to different conclusions about just how worthless a worthless non-issue is".

As to the Fed, it has ignited roaring global inflation to add to the cratering economic contraction with its illegal decision to save the Wall Street investment banks which caused the recession with their Housing Fraud bubble. That Krugman applauds this evasion of responsibilty by Bernanke is not his finest moment, IMO.

And it does show that no matter how much of a financial outrage occurs (the taxpayers are now illegally backstopping the entire financial system, utterly outside existing law, at the price of a declining dollar and massive inflation in commodities), nothing happens, even with a Dem Congress.

So, once again, we have indisputable proof that we cannot reform ourselves, no matter what crimes are committed against the public and no matter how bad things get. Cheery news. We are all well and truly Repubs now.

i thought hillary's sniper fire comments were devastating to her..any idiot could see that..sf and wright comments have changed the dynamis of this campaign..it is only matter of degree...to say people have made up their minds and it's time to move on..just isn't the case...

Posted by dennis at May 5, 2008 06:37 AM

dennis, job training? You write in not-so-coded racist terms.

You can do better than that, can't you?

As for the greater issue of polls, there have been so many conflicting polls, the numbers have bounced back and forth, I can't put too much stock in any of them.

Does any Hillary supporter here think that she should drop out of the race if she loses Indiana? If the answer is no, then why should Obama who leads Clinton by popular vote, delegates and states won drop out?

Posted by Bob In Pacifica at May 5, 2008 06:43 AM

she is still behind in the delegate and the popular vote dennis. he's won the most states, no matter how you try to spin it, she is behind. whether she takes it to the convention or not, she risks splitting the party if she pushes for the nomination remaining behind in the popular and delagate count. so you're saying the party be damned, vote hrc despite her being behind once the convention hits? is that your version of democracy? it says more about you than all of your anti-obama rants.

try this one on for size: from byron williams...

It may not always be fair, but we are judged by the company we keep. What then does it say about the company we no longer keep? If Wright's behavior raises questions about Obama, are not similar questions raised by the defectors within the Clinton camp?

joe andrew, former dnc chair under bill, originally for hilary.

former ambassador to chile gabrielguerra-mondragon, a major fundraiser, recently left

robert reich

bill richardson

david axelrod worked on her senate campaign

members of the senate who have known and worked with both clintons for the past two decades: john kerry, ted kennedy, and christopher dodd.

david geffen, media mogul and fundraiser for hrc stated: "everybody in politics lies, but they do it with such ease, it's troubling." geffen described hrc as "incredibly polarizing" adn bill as "reckless."

if wright's association with obama has done damage to the senator's image, is it not fair to ask what the myriad defections by a number of highly respected aides and supporters say about clinton?

you seem to neglect the above whenever you begin your screeds...

Posted by anthony at May 5, 2008 06:44 AM

i will not enter into a dialogue with anyone who refuses to accept that reverend wright and the sf comments have had a significant impact on obama..

Weak tea, very weak. Pretty soon you will be all alone in your little playhouse dennis.

Subscribing to your irrelevant and non factual point of view is not a prerequisite for dialogue. You do no favors for your preferred candidate, you persuade no one with your childish "I know you are but what am I" tirades.

I bet even the hard core Hillary supporters here are wincing at the inanity of that statement.

Posted by SnarkyShark at May 5, 2008 06:44 AM

Maybe you fine folks can read the latest from Newsweek..."Something Wasn't Wright". Seems to point out why Oprah...Obama's big supporter, left that church. What she thought was wrong with it...and it's primarily because of Wright.

So now you're all hot to trot over something from CBS/NYTimes? I wouldn't be, they rarely present a center viewpoint.

Posted by peter at May 5, 2008 06:54 AM

So now you're all hot to trot over something from CBS/NYTimes? I wouldn't be, they rarely present a center viewpoint.

You are right about that. They have pretty much proven to be reliable right wing stooges!

But do keep beating that dead horse called Rev. Wright. It's all you got.

Posted by SnarkyShark at May 5, 2008 07:11 AM

interesting poll in TX. It would seem Bush mouthpiece John Cornyn may have problems..Democratic nominee Ric Noriega is just a few % behind Bush's Mouthpiece in early Senate polling. Noriega has little money compared to Bush's Mouthpiece, yet there he is. Cornyn's seat seemed set in stone a few years ago but now he's square in the sights of the 70% of the public fed up with Bush and the GOP. We are a long way out, but this poll has to shake everyone anywhere running as a GOPer.

Washington Post Op-Ed

Of all the strange features of this presidential race, the tarnishing of Barack Obama has got to be the most ridiculous. First Obama was accused of anti-religious elitism. Then he was accused of identifying with the underclass anger of his spiritual mentor. Excuse me, but which is it? Am I supposed to believe that Obama is a supercilious elitist or a menacing ghetto radical? Is he contemptuous of religion or too close to a religious leader? Obama's critics don't bother to say. Meanwhile, real character issues go relatively unheeded.

If Americans continue to be distracted by shiny objects, then the stupid will do more than hurt, it will be fatal.

The last paragraph sums it up nicely.

The Obama-Wright "revelations" are really a revelation about our political culture: About its failure to distinguish the important from the trivial and about the inevitability that the race card will eventually be played against a black candidate. If the once formidable Obama campaign is knocked off course by these "revelations" in tomorrow's primaries, it will be a travesty.

That's what you want so much dennis, a travesty.

It's sad really

Posted by SnarkyShark at May 5, 2008 09:02 AM

LOL!

Good thing you're not LOOKING for something that can possibly maybe perhaps be twisted and construed as racist.

Only in a truly fevered mind could being offered the vice presidency of the United States be equated with being asked to sit in the back of the bus.

Posted by at May 5, 2008 09:05 AM

there is nothing that i said that should have been interpreted that way..and while i appreciate the thought i don't need to be defended about it..racism seems to be coming from elsewhere...

Dennis, NC will cancel her win in IN. OR will cancel KY and WV. SD and MT are about even.

Face it dude, it will be up to the Supers.
If Obama is up in the pledged Delegate count... up in the popular vote that counts, by the rules agreed to by Hillary's campaign... and up in most states won... the Supers will most certainly fall in line with Obama.

Posted by Seven of Six at May 5, 2008 09:11 AM

That might be true. But since there is no reason for the guy who is winning to accept that kind of demotion, and anybody with any sense knows that, then you open up yourself for all kinds of misconstruing.

As for defending you, I did not. I merely stated my perception that I did not think you were being racist with that particular statement.

As for you being a racist, that I know not.

My guess is no.

Posted by SnarkyShark at May 5, 2008 09:15 AM

the wright controversy..and the sf comments have nothing to do with elitism or religion..or even racism..it unmasks the hypocrisy of a campaign and a politician who claimed to be above it all..he threw wight under the bus when it became a political liability..and after wright called him out for the hypocrit that he is....barack obama to a degree is a media creation..and in my opinion not qualified to be president....he should have waited..

Posted by dennis at May 5, 2008 09:17 AM

he threw wight under the bus when it became a political liability..

Wrong. You are forgetting(conveniently) his first speech where he refused to do just that. Wrights press club appearance left him no choice.

So you are making your analysis on a faulty presumption.

Garbage in, garbage out.

So maybe going back to time when America wasn't hated and reviled, and Climate change could have been addressed on other than a 5th grade level would be a good thing.

It's all a matter of perspective, and since yours is the perspective of one of those traitorous scum
who got us here, why would anybody care anymore about your worthless opinion?

And nobody does. I don't care either, but a chance to knee you in the groin as you and all the other of your ilk go down for the count is a chance I can't pass up.

Get this straight Snark before you start in with your bullshit.

Peter is now and always has been a right wing troll.

I consider Obamas desire to make nice with assholes like him to be one of Obama's negatives.

I do not now, and have not ever been in anyway form or shape a spokesman for Obama. I consider the right wing in the same way I consider the "Good Gemans" in 1936. They are the same authoratorian thugs in all but language.

I do not attach all the uncivil language that goes on in here by Hillary supporters to Hillary herself. As shown by the numerous links I have provided here today, Hillary can stick her foot in her mouth all by herself.

As for your irritating elitist neutral stance, I will leave it to Dr.Martin Luther King to comment-

"The hottest place in Hell is reserved for those who remain neutral in times of great moral conflict. "

Enjoy your vacation.

Imagine that! Quoting MLK after expressing a desire to physically assault someone and imagining them strung up from a lamp post. I'm sure he'd be honored.

I'm not neutral about anything. I've expressed a belief that Clinton would be a better president than Obama numerous times here but that regardless of which one gets the nomination I'll support them.

Enjoy your blood lust.

Thank you, I will.

Posted by SnarkyShark at May 5, 2008 10:14 AM

...you're at the top of the list of irrational clinton haters...

My day is made!

I've been talking to the two greatest political minds of our century, my cat and dog, about tomorrows events. Although their prognostications for PA were off, they are only political analysts not pundits.

So, to the question, "Who will win the Indiana and North Carolina Primary?" the dog promptly went outside and pooped two turds. The large turd, Hillary, appears to be about 78% the size of the smaller turd, Obama. Ergo, the dog calls Indiana and NC for Hillary with around 78% of the vote. She did have some whole kernel corn for supper last night, and although artfully arranged, I could not decipher results for any individual precincts.

The cat is playing the primarys much closer to the vest. Although he appeared to be sleeping, he did rotate both ears towards me when posed the question. I believe this indicates he thinks it will be a tighter race than the dog predicts. I will try to get closer to his thinking with a sardine (Hillary) and mackerel (Barack). Depending on the size of the respective barf pools I should be able to get back to you with more accurate analyses later.

Posted by phidipides at May 5, 2008 10:19 AM

.And nobody does. I don't care either, but a chance to knee you in the groin as you and all the other of your ilk go down for the count is a chance I can't pass up.

Oh and by the way, if you didn't understand that that was metaphorical, I don't know what to do for you.

As for the lamp post comment, it is my fervent belief that when this coming crises fully plays out, many known Republican types will be decorating lamp posts. So my observation is that he will be lucky to avoid such a fate. You may disagree with this scenario, but don't put word in my mouth that I did not say. No where did I say that I hoped for that result.

Just a friendly warning to the haughty thug types of the kind of bed they're making.

And thanks for addressing the meat of the original post with you pearl clutching straw-man.

Nor did I say you said so. Seems you're the one putting words in other people's mouths.

You did a fine job of that, didn't you?

Nor did I say you said so.

Hmmm, after looking at your original statement as quoted here-

Quoting MLK after expressing a desire to physically assault someone and imagining them strung up from a lamp post. I'm sure he'd be honored.

I call bullshit. You were definitely putting words in my mouth. I wasn't imagining anything, simply making an observation of the possibility.

Sorry, all your chest thumping and shirt puffing bravado left me more than a bit underwhelmed at the significance of your "meat".

Bend over, and I will show the significance.

Sure, I'm playing right into your stereotype. Mocking is always an effective parry to a ridicules substance free statement like yours.

Thats right up there with "the criminalization of politics"

Sorry Peter, there aint no forgiving and there aint no forgetting. It's gone to far for that. And I know one thing for sure, and that is rightwingers always bluster on about how great they and their thug heroes are as loudly as possible. So everyone around you in the analogue world knows what you are, so there aint no hiding either.

Posted by SnarkyShark at May 5, 2008 10:57 AM

You can call it whatever you like. If I'd wrote that comment about people being strung up from lamp posts I'd be spinning like crazy to disown it too.

peter, After all the support you give to the bu$h/cheney torture and killing machine you got a lot nerve to talk about humanity and pacifism.

Posted by Seven of Six at May 5, 2008 11:12 AM

If I'd wrote that comment about people being strung up from lamp posts I'd be spinning like crazy to disown it too.

I'm not disowning shit. I said it, I believe the sentiment to be true, and I stand by it. I just want it to be clear. With you and your bizarre way of interpreting things, that is never a certainty.

Let me restate it as clearly as I can.

I believe that when this coming crises reaches it nadir, people presumed responsible will in some cases be killed in various ways, including being strung up on lamp posts, trees and other makeshift gallows.

I am not advocating this, stating that is a good thing or not, or commenting on the justification of this.

I merely believe things will get so bad and resentment against the perpetrators so great as to make this scenario unavoidable.

I also believe that loudmouth right-wingers(all wingers being such) will be the natural targets and Peter will be lucky to avoid such a fate.

Anything you are not clear on? Should we get you a fainting couch so you and Broder have somewhere to swoon at the incivility of it all?

Better buck up precious, there is a rough ride ahead.

Posted by SnarkyShark at May 5, 2008 11:15 AM
