Comments: We Are All Players

I listened to an interview on NPR with Al Gore, and felt a great sadness. Gore understands not only global warming, but the issues facing this Country, past and present. While all this silliness is going on, listening to Gore reminded me of what we use to call Statesmen, a person engaged in conducting the business of a government and in shaping its policies. A person who exercises political leadership wisely and without narrow partisanship. (sigh)

Is it too late to draft him at the convention?

Posted by wilder at May 8, 2008 08:57 PM

Gore will not run. I think he's had it with working from within the political system. I think it's no coincidence that we haven't heard from him since the Shit Started Breaking in January.

"If drafted, I will not run; if nominated, I will not accept; if elected, I will not serve."

If Gore did run again, Donna Brazile would find a way to sink him from the sidelines.

Arianna Huffington on the Colbert Report tonight:

"John McCain has such passion for Iraq, it's like his Viagra."

Stephen: "The warning label should read : If erections last more than 100 years, it's time to pull out!"

Climate Models Fail at Antarctic Warming Predictions

Al Gore is a demented liar. So much for that.

Tye world has been unequivocally warned (unanimously) of impending disaster by the world's climate scientists and has elected to do nothing---America most of all. We are the chief contributor to the CO2 that now is warming the globe.

American scientists were the ones who figured it out, yet our jingoist imbecilic Right viciously declares them frauds and montebanks who simply seek "funding". Hated of science, the new conservative Repub mantra.

As NASA's James Hansen has said, the irreversible tipping point is upon us, after which all the wailing and lamenting will be meaningless---there will be nothing that anyone can do. The planet will melt down, and become a completely different world. And the humans and their worthless leaders basically don't care.

Another 'well informed' troll no doubt.

I beelieve Al has plans and goals that are truly global in scope. Besides having a lifestyle that anyone would like, I'm sure his memories of tangling with the Corporate media are still quite bitter. We have seen nothing, so far, that would imply they've learned anything except how to be more venal and dishonest. From Alpha Male Earth Tones to flag pins, the Kitty Seelyes, Limbah! bobbleheads and Maureen "Modo" Dowdy moron patrol, it's actually uglier than back in 2000.

Al is basically unassailable in his current incarnation. And he is dealing with industrialists, scientists and actual national leaders in his quest to save the world. Ironically, we can use that hackneyed phrase without irony.

I believe about the only way he would be willing to contest even Johnny McWar for the Presidency is if he were begged to take it at the convention, in the midst of a disaster. The only way I see for that to happen is if some asshat manages to give Barack Obama the same fate handed to the Kennedy brothers. Now THAT would be a devastating blow to what's left of our "democracy". Let's all hope for a long, successful Obama Presidency, working closely with privat citizen Al Gore, for the future of us all!

Gore won't stand up for himself anymore. He won't answer just anyone's questions. He's become a recluse of sorts. No confrontation all the time.

You people put this Hansen on a pedestal all the while tearing others with similar scholarship and creds up. Saint Al Gore and now Hansen, these guy's are heroic. One has to wonder if they're right and there's this consensus all around, why they are so sainted? Why are they deemed so heroic? This GW crowd has created another religion. And many of y'all are falling down at the alter, just praying for this guy to deliver you. He can't and he won't. The will isn't there and can't be forced upon him.

Man made global warming is a crock. Mother nature caused the cyclone that hit Myanmar. It wasn't caused, as Al Gore says, by GW. Those people were warned two days earlier, yet that government did nothing for those, what's the number now, 500,000 possibly lost.

You're right there. Why would anyone want to get back into the hellhole that is DC? I think he's well aware that he can do more good outside the WH than in.

Posted by iamcoyote at May 9, 2008 07:48 AM

If Al were to run the election would quickly become all about AGW. He would be exposed for the charlatan he has become and would stand to lose his "reputation" as well as the election.

That being said: where do I send my "Gore 08" check?

"The average temperature in April 2008 was 51.0 F. This was -1.0 F cooler than the 1901-2000 (20th century) average, the 29th coolest April in 114 years. The temperature trend for the period of record (1895 to present) is 0.1 degrees Fahrenheit per decade."

Maybe that explains this:

"In an exclusive interview with The Sun, Mr Gore – hailed as the world’s leading green campaigner – said recent polls had found that while people rate climate change as a “serious problem”, some ranked it lower than clearing up dog mess."

Gore is making too much money to go back into politics.

Posted by Tex at May 9, 2008 08:55 AM

"why are they so sainted? Why are they so heroic?"

Because scientists like Hansen are the ones who figured the whole thing out, you cretinous wingnut turd. They figured it out and they began the (now over two decade old) process of trying to educate shitbrain cretinous conserva-cogs like you. Fighting for decades against lying special interests and vermin like you who would risk destroying our planet solely to defeat "environmentalists" and "lib'ruls" and "algore".

Vile human turds like you don't have the ability or judgment to recognize admirable people from shit. You go to sleep hugging your life size Cheney mannequin under your Dear Leader Bush glow-in-the-dark poster, two fucking war criminals, while deriding American scientists that figured out the cause of global warming and Nobel prize winning American leaders that fight the barbaric forces that grunting, backward apes like you enable and that seek to risk the future of the earth.

So I guess that's my answer, peter pinhead. Y

Thank you Turkana you are right about the Obamabots needing to get a much tougher skin if he is the nominee. You are dead on about the 527's. They are going to gut Obama like a fish.
