good morning all:
speaking of toxic and electrical in the same breath...
where is the outrage of mc cain courting/ seeking/ obtaining the endorsements of hagee: the catholic church is a great whore and parsley, how wants to eradicate islam and we as a nation "gets off on war..."
if the muslims demonstrated because of a cartoon in denmark, what do you think will happen if he gets elected. talk about national security issues...
Posted by anthony at May 12, 2008 03:35 AMThe only thing I'm following is my #$%*# puppy around the house--she was housetrained, but since we don't feel like standing out in the pouring rain for 15 minutes while she plays before she gets around to doing her business, we bring her in and she pees and craps in the house.
Posted by CG at May 12, 2008 04:10 AMsorry cg, been there, done that.
now i'm being house broken by a 2 month old.
they are sooo right, three kids is a sumbitch...
Well, I wish everyone would go read environmental writer Bill McKibben's new article "The Defining Moment for Climate Change" at TomDispatch, which makes clear that the world will need to take serious action to halt CO2 within the next 2 or 3 years or it'll be too late. The planet as we have know it for all of civilation will be doomed.
My good buddy Moses (who knows so, so much about the views of NASA chief climatologist James Hansen) will be pleased to know that McKibben's article is based on Hansen's latest peer-reviewed paper. But perhaps now Hansen is a "shrieking ninny" who doesn't "know the science", too, eh, moses?
The tragedy of "Greens" (or fuming environmentalists who backed a losing candidate) voting for someone other than the Dem this year will make the Nader fiasco look like a Noel Coward play. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link, no way around that.
Posted by euzoius at May 12, 2008 05:24 AMAnthony, at least kids will eventually grow up and move out, lol. My daughter wanted a dog--I'm not a dog person. For the most part, it's fine and I don't mind having her, but of course there are days....
Posted by CG at May 12, 2008 05:56 AMcg:
happy belated mother's day.
watching the podcast of sundays mtp.
had mc cauliff on, with a quote basically stating mi should have the same punishment they had now, when he was the chair of the dnc. he wrote it in his book. now he wants the rules changed, to 50%, with all 50% of the seated delegates to hilary. he stated since obama took the political risk of pulling his name off the ballot, he should suffer the consequences. isn't that being too cute by half with the rules, especially when you did the same with sen. levin... "rules are rules?"
on the pet issue. wanted to buy a newfoundland, it costs 1600 euro here. eek...
Posted by anthony at May 12, 2008 06:02 AMthe world will need to take serious action to halt CO2 within the next 2 or 3 years or it'll be too late. The planet as we have know it for all of civilation will be doomed.
At least the next prez will be better than Bush on this. My dd made some comment about seeing the world explode and it was a little disturbing to me. She's not a violent person. I'm wondering if between global warming and terrorism, she's a little anxious about the fate of the world.
Anthony, thanks for the mothers day wishes.
Posted by CG at May 12, 2008 06:11 AMI worry that our children are quite well aware of seeing how dire the situation is for their planet and see that absolutely nothing is being done by the "adults" whatever---and the reason they should do all this hard schoolwork when their world is doomed is....? Would you bother?
And the only way the next president will be better on global warming is if he's a Dem.
The incomparable NYer James Kunstler (anti-dynast and peak oil Cassandra) on the final act of Hillary's campaign: "Hillary may yet put on a pair of overalls with one suspender and have her picture taken sucking on a jug of moonshine likker." Yes, yes, "elitism!" & "condescension!" But funny.

Ah, the chicken littles of the world. Why bother doing anything..."it's too late now, its too late." Ah Carly Simon
Running another Dukakis, Kerry, Mondale, even a Gore with this Congress...no difference. No difference with this Obama guy either.
China's the whole game if you're this doom and gloom crowd. China's more than doubling the 2007 UN IPCC's projections on greenhouse gases. That's more than doubling the high estimate from last years report. And that's just this year...next year it will triple it. I seen projections with ALL Americans driving Prius's by 2020, that we still only get to 40% of the old Kyoto numbers.
Might as well all of sit back and wait for the Van Ryan belt to ignite.
Sorry Euz, I'm channeling that old Richard Basehart film, "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea". It dealt with man made global warming too.
The ash from Chile should slow down any temperature rise by blocking the sun's warming.
Posted by peter at May 12, 2008 07:47 AMWhat if a huge cloud of volcanic ash blows up from South America, settles over the White House, and gets zapped by the mother of all lightning bolts?
I trust Homeland Security has a plan for this potential disaster.
We would be in a fine mess without our current "leadership".
Peter unwittingly ate many pounds of volcanic ash as a child, which explains the stunted brain development. Never again!
Thus, he wants to us to beat our head against the wall in Iraq for 100 years, but of course give up on doing anything about global warming before we even start.
The sick "conservative" vision for our future, kids. Make sure you understand it and the human turds (like peter) who are behind it.
Posted by euzoius at May 12, 2008 08:20 AMMary: Although I can't find the link, CBS had a piece on the $1.5 trillion upgrade required to get America's infrastructure back to safe (Search: "Crumbling Infrastructure at CBSNews.com).
A frightening set of scenarios is predicted if action is not taken soon. This would be a start to jump the US economy by President Obama.....how much longer need we drool for change....180 days??
Posted by Goyo at May 12, 2008 08:47 AMWhen a child washes down numerous lead soldiers with Kool Aid, many problems may surface in the future.
Posted by TIKI AL at May 12, 2008 08:48 AMGetmo/Cuba/Puerto Rico...110 years
Guam...110 years
Phillipines...stayed 90 years left under Reagan/Bush
Italy...65 years
Germany...63 years
Japan...63 years
Korea...56 years
Boznia...10 years
Somoa...???
Yeah, we stay a lot in many places...doesn't mean people are shooting at us all the time. Funny how Democrats put us in many of the above places...McKinnley getting us into Cuba/Puerto Rico/Guam/Phillipines/and Hawaii. No end in sight for many of them too.
Which Volcano Euz?
Posted by peter at May 12, 2008 08:50 AMFor God's sake peter, McKinley was a REPUB and a KKKarl Rover idol.
Maybe you best not use historical analogies....
Posted by euzoius at May 12, 2008 08:55 AMPardon me for not excepting McKinley...that's what I meant to do with the reference. Great places to hang onto...those from McKinley. Democrats have kept us in all the others with Republicans being the only ones to leave any of them.
Which Volcano Euz?
Posted by peter at May 12, 2008 09:12 AMDon't ever think about becoming an historian, peter, with the crazed "justifications" and mindless distinctions you draw. "great places to hang onto"---well, you're a militarist supporter of empire.
And I don't think your parents know "which volcano", peter, they just regret buying the "Super Volcano" brand of kiddie chewable vitamins!
Posted by euzoius at May 12, 2008 09:30 AMLet's see...Hawaii, great place. Puerto Rico, also a great place...statehood has been voted on a few times. Guam, didn't Obama open an office there recently? Speaker Pelosi exempted American Somoa from the minimun wage increases the rest of us got.
Why are we still in those places Democrats kept our bases at?
Posted by peter at May 12, 2008 10:14 AMpeter,
since i'm currently living on one, it has to do with sofa's, leases, and committments. those bases employ thousands of local nationals. if we withdrew all of our forces, our rep would suffer more than you could imagine...
as far as your examples of "occupations," above, tell me which one exactly do we face the danger of mortar rounds, car bombs, suicide bombers, and sniper attacks on a daily basis?
i forget, since i can walk freely in germany, belgium, japan, italy, korea, guam, etc without a flak jack?
Posted by anthony at May 12, 2008 12:21 PMpeter, it's great to see you associate Repub McKinley's militarist, jingoist, lying Wars of Imperial Aggression at the turn of the 20th century with Repub Bushco's militarist, jingoist, lying Wars of Imperial Aggression at the turn of the 21st---some parties never change!
I guess under your analysis of our permanent acquisition of Hawaii and Spain's various colonies that you see Iraq as a "great place". What's "great" about it, I wonder? The nice climate? The ocean views?
Of course, this simply proves your fundamentally anti-American, militarist imperial viewpoint and your celebration and adoration of aggressive military force, which is all that your "side" of our crappy, failed politics understands. You actually hate the underlying idea behind America and its constitution, just as your beloved Bush n' Cheney have instructed you.
And that's why we are failing as a country---because of fucked-up pinhead "citizens" like you.
Posted by euzoius at May 12, 2008 12:38 PMMany superstitious Chinese are claiming the earthquake was payback for the military monk crackdown.
If only these simple peasants were as sophistcated as American godbot leaders they would realize that it was caused by someone planning a gay pride parade.
