Guess what US Senator from Illinois signed on to GWB's Class Action Fairness Act of 2005?

I saw this yesterday but I'm not certain in this case these standards are solely to limit corporate liability. Wouldn't, say, the Aug. 19 2005 NHTSA regulation of roof crush strength be more likely to protect the passengers in a roof-crushing accident than to protect the vehicle's manufacturer from a lawsuit? Certain mandated features like padded dashboards & door impact beams have definitely saved both lives & limbs over the years (back when certain regulations were actually made by good people) and of course, that's assuming the proposed roof crush strength number be a legitimate value and not some bogus crap. In this time of Bushco, who knows?
