Comments: The Media Are the Menace: McCain and Climate Change

NYT: no matter who is elected "the United States will have a president who supports mandatory cuts in greenhouse gases."
Where do they get this? To McCain, the word "mandates", and the concept it represents is poison. To him, just as with any Republican, the market will solve every problem (just like it did when we left airline security up to the airlines before 9/11). But McCain did come to Oregon the other day and had his picture taken standing in front of a wind turbine. I guess Bush wouldn't do that, so McCain is truly a green maverick, at least at the photogenic level.

Appoint leaders and staff of key federal agencies who take climate change seriously and believe in the necessary solutions.

On tonights NewsHour was a perfect example of that in action.

The guy from the NRDC seemed to think this decision to list the polar bear as threatened was a big move by bush, but he doesn't really know who he's dealing with here.

On paper it may be good, but the bushies are doing it for oil drilling purposes, as Secretary kempthorne made abundently clear in his remarks. They're trying to inure the oil patch from impediments to their activities in the Arctic, plain and simple, by laying yet another foundation layer of protection.

"Oil drilling has nothing, nu thing! to do with global warming, so don't try to impose any checks on their activities, ya hear me Democrats?!"
