As our worthless Dem leadership prepares to hand Bushco a stunning victory on Telecom immunity and shit on the base of the party again, I must question what is the point of continued "engagement" in politics.

"passing" Iraq Occupation funding with 2/3 of the party's House members opposed, negotiating cave-ins on FISA which only 30 House Dems will vote for. It really is simply too much. Yet there is no outrage or outcry against the leadership, so one assumes that all members are on board with the script.

This is probably it for me.

What would you do if FEMA and local officials told you to pass on flood insurance because the levees would hold?

Euzoius, I agree. The only answer is to unseat every Democrat who has betrayed the Party, and make damn sure they know why they will not be returning to Washington, D.C. Those who do to not support the values of the Party are those we do not need.

What this Country needs desperately is a viable third party.

But Judith, you were rejoicing their election just a few months past. Even the Mississippi election was another blue dog who voted for FISA and war funding. You wanted these people in office. You longed for these people's election, taking back the majorities. These people are fulfilling your desires...only they don't see the world your way do they. What would this world be if all aligned with your way? Just a bunch of people marching lockstep with each other.

Obama's even campaigning for these people Judith...he wants them there.

War funding with no strings...not even an argument! No date certain...not even on the table...lets keep winning the war the way Petraeus is waging it. The guy is already meeting with his possible CinC Obama. Barry is already starting to modify his withdrawal concepts. When the general becomes CentCom commander...more successes are in order. The war on terrorist will have a favorable outcome no matter who wins in November, not even Obama will alter what's been accomplished. He wouldn't want that on his watch...better to leave it alone, let the military get it done.

FISA...no Obama leadersheep there. Not even "present" for this one. I'm sure later he'll say he 'woulda' voted against it had he been there...just to make you happy.

Oh, I just remembered...this IS an election year. Where are the calls for immediate withdrawal that Democrats made last year? The date's certain tied to funding the war? Those that wanted us out by March of 2008? Wonder if success there has muted them? Wasn't the election of 2006 supposed to accomplish our withdrawal? Maliki, Rice, and Petraeus seems to be besting those Democrats and MoveOn.org.

I hear Obama is talking better about Nafta, not renegotiating it anymore. More change from the change candidate.

8. "A beaker of melted butter would have frozen in Obama’s mouth as he recorded the video explaining his “reason” for opting out of the system."

So glad that Time on line in conjuction with CNN is so unbiased.

Peter, the difference between us is that I can admit when those elected have betrayed the values of the Democratic Party. You, on the other hand, have done nothing but sign the praises of the Republicans and Bush. Talk about lockstep.

Posted by Judith#1 at June 20, 2008 09:49 AM

Judith, how's St. Louis today? Was there a few weeks ago. Great city...from what I saw. Have you been to Tucker's on south 12th, or Chris's Pancakes in the Hill? Noticed on one of the Tv websites that the river is well above 36 feet, near the top of the Arch's steps!

Now about Bush...I've admitted here that both he and Rummy made mistakes. I've admitted that Republicans acted too much like Democrats and overspent resulting in our ouster in 2006. But they've made adjustments and we're on the right path now...in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Posted by peter at June 20, 2008 10:17 AM

How come all these levees breaking down? Doesn't it show neglect to maintain infrastructure? Why are we spending $10B every month in Iraq if we can use that money to fix our problems? Do the Republicans live in a different America that they do not see what we see?

May be Peter wants to explain to us all.

CNN just had someone on that dealt with that around 1:40 EST...try the website and look for transcrips in a few hours. He's a guy that supports man made climate change...one of yours. Seems the levies might be part of the problem...according to this expert.

Nice try suresh.

Iowa, Illinois and Missouri are being flooded when over 20 levees have failed to hold the river waters from the Mississippi.

There are still over 30 more levees along the river that are at risk for overflowing and many towns are using sandbags in an attempt to prevent flooding of homes and businesses. The levees that are in danger of flooding are not located in large populations.

The death toll was reported by media outlets as being 24 since June 6th, while there has been 148 injured from the flooding.

The estimations of damage at this time are thought to be ranging around 1.5 billion and this could go up if more flooding occurs.

Just like in NO in 2005, the levees are not holding. Worse, many of the people evacuated did not have flood insurance, as local officials and insurance companies said they did not need coverage.

Peter, yes I have been to both resturants. In 1993, the Mississippi River was up to the top of the arch stairs. St. Louis has flood gates that have with stood the test of time so far. However, the gambling boats on the River aren't as lucky.

Posted by Judith#1 at June 20, 2008 12:06 PM

Peter;

The levees have been there for several decades and were able to handle the weather. Now because of global warming the weather pattern has gotten worst in some areas. We need to strenghthen these levees to adjust to this weather change. Is that so difficult for you Republicans to comprehand?

I still think that you guys accept all other technology such as Airplanes, Nuclear Power, Cell phones and what not but when it comes to man made global warming, you argue that the scintists all over the world are wrong.

Peter get you head out of the sand please before you suffocate.

We've seen the remnants of these storms in the Northeast-a tornadic event in my Northern New Jersey town for the first time, and violent thunderstorms every few days. In a few years, we in the Northeast will be in the soup as well.
