Seems Paradox thought the same of you Mary. Have fun.
SECURITY SHOCK: MCCAIN SHARES DETAILS OF OBAMA TRIP
McCain said on Friday that his Democratic opponent, Barack Obama, is likely to be in Iraq over the weekend, while the Obama campaign has tried to cloak the Illinois senator's trip in some measure of secrecy for security reasons. The White House, State Department and Pentagon do not announce senior officials' visits to Iraq in advance. "I believe that either today or tomorrow, and I'm not privy to his schedule, Sen. Obama will be landing in Iraq with some other senators" who make up a congressional delegation, McCain told a campaign fund-raising luncheon.
Josh Marshall points out that there's something very wrong with this: If Obama is going to be in Iraq this weekend, this is a major breach on McCain's part. As a knowledgeable insider notes ...
"If it is true that Obama is going to Iraq this weekend, it is a very serious mistake for McCain to have disclosed it publically. Even for run-of-the-mill CODELs the military gives guidance like, "Please strongly discourage Congressional offices from issuing press releases prior to their trips which mention their intent to travel to the AOR and/or the dates of that travel or their scheduled meetings. Such releases are a serious compromise to OPSEC." If Obama is going to Iraq this weekend, I can not begin to imagine how much this is complicating the security planning for the trip.
Note: McCain was furious when the press reported on his son serving in Iraq, he feared the coverage would make him a target.

Posted by Judith at July 18, 2008 10:11 PMWhile I'd like McCain to look bad from this, I heard on the news that Obama was heading out for his oversees trip and it was pretty obvious from the rest of his schedule that his trips to Iraq and Afghanistan would take place over the weekend and the news media said as much.
Posted by CG at July 19, 2008 05:04 AMThe talking point this week is to complain about unequal treatment for Obama by MSM. CNN and MSNBC are walking on pins and needles trying to ensure that McLame is covered as much as Obama. Judith has outlined the OPSEC breach. GOP talking point to complain about major anchors being with Obama and that they didnt go with McLame.
Posted by angryman at July 19, 2008 05:22 AMCG, I think his statement was made prior to the media getting hold of the story. I can't remember when it was public knowledge that Bush or Cheney were on their way to Iraq. We usually found out once they were there.
On the same subject as Iraq, this morning on the Today Show I heard that Obama has now adopted McCain's troop withdrawal. WTF? Didn't McCain say something about a 100 year war with Iraq not too long ago? Liar liar, pants on fire.
Posted by Judith at July 19, 2008 05:36 AMI can't wait to hear about how Obama is just more of Bush since now Bush is starting to do all the things Obama wants to do--timetable for withdrawal, talking to Iran....
"I can't wait to hear about how Obama is just more of Bush since now Bush is starting to do all the things Obama wants to do--timetable for withdrawal, talking to Iran...."
CG, that is exactly how the media will handle the faux story. They are already saying Obama is adopting McCain's strategy. The lies are getting bolder and bolder.
Posted by Judith at July 19, 2008 06:23 AMSeems Rove is back. In fact, he probably never left. The campaign that is trying to prove it's not a second coming of George W. Bush is using the President's former chief strategist on a regular basis.
...away from the spotlight, Rove has been busy pitching in by giving informal advice to McCain's team and spending a considerable amount of time as an outside adviser to Freedom's Watch, the conservative political group that is expected to spend tens of millions of dollars to help elect House GOP candidates. This should give us all some insight into what to expect the closer we get to the elections. I think I can already smell the stench.

Posted by Judith at July 19, 2008 06:33 AMSo Mary or Paradox, are hecklers removed, or cited for trespassing or arrested? At right-wing functions dissent usually ends up with someone being removed, arrested, or both.
Posted by Judith at July 19, 2008 06:47 AMThe U.S. Supreme Court made exposing misdeeds a little more dangerous last year when it ruled that whistleblowing employees had no protection against retaliation from employers. Now, a California District Court judge has ordered the online anonymous whistleblowing site, Wikileaks.org, to shut down.
Wikileaks, which is currently available at the address Wikileaks.be, launched in December of 2006 as a place for the anonymous posting of information by whistleblowers. It was responsible for the revealing of the controversial "Standard Operating Procedures for Camp Delta" at Guantanamo Bay, which exposed some potential civil rights violations. The site hosts thousands of other posted documents, which range from supposed e-mails from U.S. Ambassadors to videos showing a nuclear accident in Japan.
Last week's ruling from the California judge is in response to a lawsuit by the Julius Baer Group, a Swiss bank that was alleged to be involved in money laundering. The allegations were backed up by documents posted, illegally, according to the bank, to Wikileaks. The judge ruled that the Wikileaks.org domain name could no longer be renewed or resolved.
Ah yes, Democracy at work.

You have your standards set way to low.
Posted by jj at July 19, 2008 01:08 PMObama had invited Democrat Cleland, a former senator from Georgia and a disabled Vietnam veteran, to join him in a fundraiser in Atlanta on July 8.
He uninvited him because Cleland is an evil, money-grubbing, influence-peddling lobbyist.
Who does he lobby for?
“Cleland is registered to lobby for a company whose products are aimed at helping soldiers recover more quickly from battlefield industries injuries, Tissue Regeneration Technologies,” reported Ben Smith at Politico.
Hey, Obama, here’s a quarter. Buy yourself some class.
Cleland voted for the Iraq War resolution in 2002, so I’m guessing Obama’s antiwar supporters are smiling.
