Comments: Mouth of the Mississippi Gets Messier

As McCain will tell you, there are resources to exploit. And Investor's Daily sums up the buck-making shell game of corporate oil "McCain rows his boat offshore, hallelujah!"

McCain 08 "Drill for oil that doesn't exist and increase the deficit for corporate profits!"

Heard a lot about it yet on the campaign trail?

This campaign isn't about issues. It's about inspiration. That's why Obama is so far out ahead of McCain.

Oil spills, bridges fallingi in, granes crashing killing people, roads deteriorating, unlicensed truck drives, mines collasping, contaminated food, poisoned meat, etc., yeah, let's vote for more of that.

This campaign isn't about issues.

Except for Obama's message of expanding renewable energy and supporting manufacturing jobs in the United States to accomplish it. Manufacturing jobs in the United States...how droll! Head fake, "100 years in Iraq whether they want us there or not. That's freedom!"

That's why Obama is so far out ahead of McCain.

And all you need to do is oversample white republi-cons to get there! You know, neo-Nazis for McCain vote for him at almost 100%.

I suggest we dump half of the recovered oil "muck" in peters front yard snd the other half on the "oil" presidents front lawn....

Oh, and add bank closings and the mortgage fiasco.

Saw a great comment on Bush saying that "Wall Street got drunk." Does that mean Bush was the bartender?

Here is the full quote, that seemed to be lost in the media:

"Wall Street got drunk, it got drunk (it’s one of the reasons I asked you to turn off your tv cameras.) It got drunk and now it’s got a hangover. The question is how long will it sober up, and not try to do all these fancy financial instruments."

"And now we got a housing issue, not in Houston, and evidently, not in Dallas, because Laura was over there trying to buy a house today."

Why can't they just put kitty litter on it?

That stuff works quite well to keep the oil spot under the Caddy at bay.

Except for Obama's message of expanding renewable energy

Obama's answer to America's energy crisis is to inflate your tires.

It's not what he says, it's how he says it. I found it very inspirational. I immediately went to Costco and bought 10 air pumps. Just trying to keep the planet green.

News flash, oil and water don't mix, and the oil industry is constantly crapping up whatever area it operates in.

That's why when we as a country cared about our environment, both parties agreed that offshore drilling was just a massive accident waiting to happen, and always will be.

Now the environment and the future are to go to the back of the bus so baboon BushAmericans can think that they are "solving" Peak Oil, ha-ha. Pure delusional selfishness, the very definition of "conservatism".

I say let BigOil drill off the coasts of every lower 48 state that voted for Bush in 2004---but the legislation has to prohibit ANY efforts by the federal gub'mint to clean up any future spills. Let BigOil drill the whole Gulf coast into a miasma of black viscous shit---it'll remind Repubs of their own "dens".

Yes, all the wildlife and fisheries in those areas will be destroyed in 20 years as a result, as will their "tourism", but those crappy Red Staters don't care any more about wildlife than their environment.

Just keep drilling, drilling, drilling, until we completely foul our nest. Here in Fort Worth, Chesapeake Co. and others are drilling hundreds upon hundreds of wells for natural gas through the Barnett Shale. Wet, corrosive, odorless gas, will be pressurized, gathered into transmission lines, and piped under people's front lawns. If you are wondering about the environmental impact of turning an urban area into a giant wellhead; just consider the millions of gallons of water that have to be polluted when used for injection processes in this kind of recovery.

I went with friends to a neighborhood meeting of concerned (and outraged) citizens, last night; and we were told by a physicist who spoke there, that with this number of gas wells and underground pipes, we could expect (according to statistics) some kind of serious incident (including explosions) about once every seven months, for the duration of this project.

People in this city are faced with what amounts to a corporate takeover of the residential rights on their property. People have been encouraged to sign over the mineral rights of their property for gas royalties; but it now seems that whether they sign on the dotted line or not, the corporations doing the drilling have been granted the right to take them to eminent domain court, and can seize the property, and throw homeowners into the street, even if those folks have safety concerns or other objections to high presure gas lines being buried under their lawns.

Well, your state legislature should have something to say about that, Copeland. Unless they are in on it. It doesn't sound like federal land is involved.

Sorry to hear about this, sounds horrible and infuriating.

euzoius,

I'm sorry to say the state seems to be in on this. We learned that recently a reform of eminent domain law was vetoed by Governor Perry. And our City Council is acting like their hands are tied on this too, although I'm unsure if that is the whole truth.

The Mayor has told us city government can do little about it. We're screwed, apparently. But someone suggested a possible recall vote on City Council last night, if some safety issues in particular neighborhoods are not dealt with to the satisfaction of homeowners.

. I immediately went to Costco and bought 10 air pumps.

Do you still have to wear that helmet because of obsessively bumping your head on the wall?
