Another one?

How may does that make?

Posted by jj at August 1, 2008 02:16 PM

FUCK OFF jj! FUCKING CREEP!

Posted by Judith at August 1, 2008 02:41 PM

To begin a journey, it takes the first step asshole.

Posted by Judith at August 1, 2008 02:42 PM

Steve, I beg you to ban jj. He never offers any discussion. All he does is snipe and run like the yellow belly he is. We don't need this asshole here at TLC.

I'm with you, Judith.

I've been in a Wallmart exactly once, and didn't buy anything. It just smelled icky. My son worked at one and hated it. They have weekly pep rallies where people are forced to participate. He didn't work there long.

Posted by iamcoyote at August 1, 2008 02:53 PM

Turns out it was just a rogue employee that said that, and it's not the official store position.

I go to Wal-Mart at least once a week. You can get about twice the amount of groceries there for the same dollar that you spend elsewhere.

A box of Cheerios is a box of Cheerios.

Posted by Muck at August 1, 2008 03:26 PM

"I mean, just how evil can this organization get??"

So evil that they are the largest employer in the US and tens of millions of people happily shop there everyday and retirement funds and 401k funds and retirees gladly receive dividend payments.

Oh yeah, and I am sure the people who get their prescription drugs through the WalMart plan are happy too!

Posted by Bagley at August 1, 2008 03:49 PM

Yep, bagley, its all about kickbacks. The unions funnel money into the Democratic campaigns.

Same shit with the minimum wage. Liberals don't give a damn about the poor, but it boosts union wages.

You must not shop much or Wally World forced out the competition. They are higher than most stores. Why do you want to pay more?

Oh yeah, and I am sure the people who get their prescription drugs through the WalMart plan are happy too!

That four dollar thing? Any pharmacy will match it. I know. My pharmacy is glad to match it.

Same shit with the minimum wage. Liberals don't give a damn about the poor,...

Don't look now, assclown. It's only because of unions that anyone makes more than minimum wage. Your perfect society exists and it's easy to find. Something tells me you wouldn't like it much.

Posted by phidipides at August 1, 2008 05:43 PM

"My pharmacy is glad to match it."

Well, good on you pharmacy. Kudos to them.

Posted by Bagley at August 1, 2008 06:31 PM

Jeff, it is not illegal. They are doing exactly what they have been told to do by the giant employment law firm they retain - the top employment law firm in the country, and a law firm that is very well known for its success in preventing unionization. All those meetings are scripted by the law firm, and the people running them are coached on just how far they can go.

Don't blame the lawyers, it's what they get paid to do.

PS I NEVER set foot in Wal Mart. The atmosphere in there is just to icky for words, and I have felt that way since before I understood how they operate.

Posted by Shirin at August 1, 2008 07:51 PM

PS I NEVER set foot in Wal Mart.

Rumor is you're shopping in Carrefours, Shirin.

Well, good on you pharmacy. Kudos to them.

You bet. Beats WalMart's "special" tax breaks. You know, the ones you can't get. I can get em. I lobby big time. Ever see that Interstate running in to Benton? An Interstate built for one company. Go figure?!

McCain 08 "He sucks, but he's all we got!"

"Rumor is you're shopping in Carrefours"

I've been known to shop there. :o}

Posted by Shirin at August 1, 2008 09:50 PM

PS The atmosphere in a Carrefour is entirely different from that in a Wal Mart. Not that Carrefour is paradise, but.......well, by comparison it kind of is. The few times I have set foot in a Wal Mart I could not wait to set foot outside of it. I don't believe I have ever stayed inside long enough to buy anything there.

PPS The employment law firm that Wal Mart uses - as I said, the top employment law firm in the USA - actually has an office in Wal Mart's home town dedicated exclusively to Wal Mart. But even that is not enough. They have teams of lawyers all over the country who work mostly, or exclusively, for Wal Mart. The firm bills tens of millions to Wal Mart every year just for issue related to employment law. And Wal Mart is like the 800 pound gorilla. When it says "jump", they say "how high"?

And Wal Mart is very secretive to the point of being self-defeating. There was one situation in which certain individuals at Wal Mart were not reliably receiving e-mails from the law firm (which of course was entirely the fault of the law firm), and they insisted that the IT department of the law firm had to fix the situation, but they refused to allow the IT department from the law firm to have any communication whatsoever with their IT department in order to troubleshoot the problem, which the law firm determined clearly was not occurring on the law firm's side of things.

My perscriptions are $2 at Costco, the cheapest in St. Louie.

Posted by Judith at August 2, 2008 10:01 AM

Costco and Starbucks provide real health benefit. So does Target. Their prices are as good and their quality is much better. Sometimes suppliers make a cheaper product to meet Walmart's price pressures.

I wonder how effective these talks are. I bet they have convinced half their employees to vote Democratic by their 'pep' talk.

Posted by allansfca at August 2, 2008 10:35 PM

Costco is one of the best employers in the United States among all the major retail businesses. It is a fundamental part of their founding philosophy to provide the best health benefits, fair salaries, and good working conditions for their employees. For that reason employee retention is very high - i.e. there is a relatively low turnover, and a lot of very long-term employees at Costco.

Target is not terrible, though they lost a big class action suit a number of years ago. Certainly the atmosphere in their stores, their pricing, and the quality of their products is a lot better than Wal Mart.

I do not like Starbucks' predatory business practices.

The People's Republic of China would like to thank you for your contributions to communism, slave labor, corporate welfare, and the well-being of the Chinese government, that your dollars are helping to support.

I am on an email writing campaign blitz to all friends family colleagues to email, call, write WallyWorld to express OUTRAGE at their tactics. Anyone who has ever worked for the private sector KNOWS that these subtle and not so subtle tactics occur all the time. Got the official stance from their PR office denying the charge. No problem, believe what you want. Am pulling all my prescriptions from WallyWorld and am boycotting them, also taking back recent purchases for a refund. Vote Dem, Vote Rep, Vote Green/Working Families/Socialist/Libertarian....but DO NOT ALLOW THE EVIL EMPIRE TO TELL YOU HOW TO VOTE! IT IS THE VERY LAST PRIVATE CHOICE YOU HAVE. WallyWorld/Bush/Cheney/Exxon/Halliburton....it's face is legion....
