Comments: A Symbolic Move

It's funny that the people who are obsessed with her both positively and negatively are insisting that she'll do the same thing.

Posted by andgarden at August 14, 2008 10:48 AM

I think it's kinda weird that, unlike just about every other frelling presidential convention, only one of the candidates is allowed to contest the nomination at the convention.

Even when it's been even more lopsided in favor of the front runner than it is this year, all of the other nominees are allowed to keep on being nominees until they get eliminated in the convention voting.

heh- great point, andgarden. yet another convergence.

Despite the endless lies and smears leveled at her during the primaries...

Yeah. It was tough on her. But she was up to it because of her experiences at Tuzla...The Tuzla Terror. And when Tom Daschle had to tell Bill that his conduct was "not keeping with the image of a former president...I think it destroys the party. Ultimately it's going to divide us, and it's going to have a lasting effect down the road..."

You could rest assured that if it came from a Clinton and it was targeted at Obama it was an outright lie or a mistruth so large as to be silly.

Hurry, Tarzana! You only have a few more posts to get to misogyny. Hurry! I'm sure you can work it in there. Hell, I'm suprised that wasn't the lead in your post. Here, I'll do it for you:

"You pricks are all misogynists for not supporting Hillary enough. She's just a giiiirrrlll, and you are all pricks. If you couldn't overcome your objections to Iraq, NAFTA, lies about her background, fellating every lobbysist she met (ad infinitum) you are just a MIS-AH-AH-AH-HAH-GYNIST!" (Cue sobbing)

Posted by phidipides at August 14, 2008 11:51 AM

Those delusionally dreaming that she will try something- anything- to wrest the nomination from Obama do her as much of a disservice as do her dishonest critics.

I think that's taking it a little far. Some people are having more trouble than others realizing that you people really picked Obama and now it's for real and he's so screwed.

Clinging to the idea of a last minute reprieve isn't "doing her a disservice". It's just desperation. But it's out of respect.

Posted by MaskedVigilante at August 14, 2008 12:31 PM

Boy Phidipies you really have as we say in the business " a lot of issues".

I would be happy to see you in session and consider medication but the retainer I would have to get would be way over your deductible.

As an Obama supporter from the start, I am sad to see this level of anger directed at such a great senator. He doesn't speak for me.

And you guys are running a senile old fuck who both Fundamentalists and Con-servatives alike hate. Watch the electoral math, spunky. You lost before you started, and the "Brain" keeps getting it wrong. He's forgetting that several States won't have the republi-con thumb on the scales (Ohio, anyone). Shit, even Tex-Ass is going blue.

I'll give $100.00 to the first reporter who asks McCain for some background on Ossetia...and Lie-berman isn't allowed to tongue Ace McCain's ear on this one.

Posted by phidipides at August 14, 2008 12:44 PM

And you guys are running a senile old fuck who both Fundamentalists and Con-servatives alike hate.

Yeah, they hate him. But they REALLY love their party and REALLY hate Obama.

Besides, even a senile old fuck can win a one-sided fight.

Posted by MaskedVigilante at August 14, 2008 12:50 PM

Here's a simple exercise for any Clinton supporters who feel that there is a lingering rift that needs to be soothed:

Sit down in a quiet place. Get a blank piece of paper and pen or pencil. Write down everything you would have wanted Obama supporters to do and say if Clinton had won the nomination. Do those things.

What's odd about people who identify themselves as Clinton supporters is that they apparently disagree with, or choose not to follow, Senator Clinton's own decision to campaign for Obama without reservation.

Posted by James E. Powell at August 14, 2008 12:50 PM

Yeah, well, like I said they're having trouble accepting it. Maybe you're right. Maybe some quiet reflection would help.

This is just pre-convention drama. Everybody's hoping for the plot twist that's gonna make everything okay.

Once the conventions are over and the "miracle" doesn't happen, they'll fall in behind Obama.

Posted by MaskedVigilante at August 14, 2008 12:56 PM

Everybody's hoping for the plot twist that's gonna make everything okay.

Exactly right. But I don't think some of them are gonna fall in line afterward. They've built a whole mythology around their hurt feelings by now. Luckily, despite the hype of some of the wackier pumaturds, their numbers are pretty dang small, so who gives a fuck about them besides the Greens who'll pick up the scraps?

Posted by iamcoyote at August 14, 2008 01:07 PM

But I don't think some of them are gonna fall in line afterward.

Yeah, you're prolly right. Some might go Green or go Nader, and some might just stay home. Should balance out nicely on all the Republicans who don't feel represented this time around either and might stay home. (Like the Bible Thumper Zombies)

I don't care what you think. And if you read with any effort at comprehension you would see my comments are targeted at Tarzana.

I would be happy to see you in session and consider medication but the retainer I would have to get would be way over your deductible.

Indeed. I find it amusing but not surprising that you're a pretend pill-roller.

...but the retainer...

Oops. Your bad. You're not in practice at all, in any form, are you, spunky? Just a wanna be. Couldn't make a Clinical program? Med School not go well? It's probably related to that comprehension deficit you're exhibiting. But then again, those programs do have rigorous standards for admission, don't they? Next...

But I don't think some of them are gonna fall in line afterward.

That's true. And that is a shame. I don't know if Hillary can influence them, and it's not helping with Bill not coming out 100% for Obama. I hope these people vote instead of staying home, especially if there are down-ticket Dems they can support.

Posted by phidipides at August 14, 2008 01:19 PM

The electoral math does not look good for Obama.
He's behind where Kerry was in 2004.
Furthermore, so far he is bringing no new states to the table, while being weak in the essential swing states.
McCain is running even now. He looks like a slight favorite to win in Nov.

Get the fuck outta here... he's taken the lead in AK... AK if you will. Obama is gonna win by 100 electoral votes! Has McShit broke 44% yet in any poll?

Posted by Seven of Six at August 14, 2008 01:43 PM

Not to mention, SoS, his forces on the ground in every state getting out the vote, lawyers challenging the lawyers trying to suppress the vote, etc. McCain has nothing but negative campaigning and increasingly nasty appeals to racists. It's not a done deal, but at least Obama has a way better chance than Kerry ever did.

Posted by iamcoyote at August 14, 2008 02:01 PM

>What's odd about people who identify themselves as Clinton supporters is that they apparently disagree with, or choose not to follow, Senator Clinton's own decision to campaign for Obama without reservation.

Nothing odd about it. Hillary has to do what she has to do to keep her chances alive for 2012, but the rest of us don't. And finally, for most of us, it isn't about Hillary (she was about my 5th choice), it is about Obama. I don't consider him an acceptable candidate, and I won't vote for him. Period. But if he wins, after his only accomplishment as an unprincipled and ineffective President is to revive the GOP, I promise to refrain from saying, "We tried to warn you." Very often.

Posted by tdraicer at August 14, 2008 02:25 PM

Hillary doesn't want the nomination. She knows that neither she nor Obama will win the way things are now. The Obama campaign has divided the Democratic Party to the point where a Democrat will not win this year. The good news about that is that it will end Obama's political career and Hillary will go on to defeat McCain in 2012.

Hey people said the same sh!t about Kerry and he got tooled!

Don't worry your boy Obama is a lot worse off.

Posted by m12 at August 14, 2008 04:04 PM

It is a good and historical thing to do.

Obama in a landslide, Hillary as Majority Leader in the Senate. And finally some people in power who can engender respect, even if respectfully disagreed with.

Let's remember what we are contrasting our power structure with - a bunch of screeding, stupid, obnoxious, toadying, criminal, jackass, doofus, harpies who have ruled - yes RULED - this Republic for the last eight years.

So cut the crap and freaking focus - we'll be better off - for real. But we have to win and that means mean nasty knife fighting compromise - amongst ourselves first, and with the electorate in general. Even the Cheney regime has had to deal with that.

Don't worry your boy Obama is a lot worse off.

Worse off than what? Crap, Obama is on vacation and McCain is snatching...well, snatching defeat from the jaws of defeat.

Looks like your little Georgia war isn't going too well as far as a wedge issue. Likely it's because people were curious enough to learn that Georgia was committing atrocities in Ossetia with the full support of the United States. Go figure. You assclowns are complicit in supporting more atrocities. And did you see Ace McCain coming on the news to support his creds as experienced in the region? Pit-eee-ful.

Of course, after the Mad King, idiot son of George the Lame, and his foreign policy statements, even McCain's Alzheimers addled explanation seemed refreshing in all its confabulated stupidity.

Although I've got to admit, Cindy McVicodin was looking very relaxed and lovely today with her arm in a sling. More relaxed than I've seen her look in a while. Someone shook her hand and and hurt her wrist? Something tells me that's how the popular drug abusers get their scripts these days! 3 months to the election in close proximity to John "Show em your tits, cunt" McCain and 20 Vicodin to a bottle with 1 refill each...hmmmm. It tells me that we'll be seeing a neck brace, a knee support, another arm sling...you'll know she's got a bit too many "happy pills" when she starts drooling like Pavlov's dogs and her eyeliner looks like it belongs on Tammy Faye Baker.

Posted by phidipides at August 14, 2008 05:05 PM

And phid, wasn't it funny when turdblossom was ignoring the congressional subpoena last month he was in the Baltic region drumming up support. This looks like a typical Rovian move... Georgian missles fire on Southern Ossetia... then a Russian power grab... McRube's lobby friend and Rove working together?

Thinking that they can ignite the old cold war propaganda to help McCryptkeeper in the election?

Of course I have to give Thom Hartmann credit for this hypothesis.

Can you tell me if Barack Obamas' name is Barry Soetoro or not????
Is he an Indonesian citizen also???
Do you really think he can be a good enough president?? It seems that his touch on reality is a little questionable!!

Oh yeah, 'symbolic' is *just* the word I want hear in association when counting votes. As in, a staged puppet and mime theatre having no relation to the pre-determined and for-ordained selection of the Democratic candidate for the general elections.

The closest that symbolic can be applied to the outcome of delegate voting would be if Senator Obama get enough delegates to put him over the top count-wise on the first go. (Aside: if the DNC and Senator Obama's campaign have NOT been working their butts off to get this, why are they getting paid?) And having the 'paper of record' tie symbolic to Senator Obama's nomination will be a gift to Senator McCain.

Yes, 'Symbolic' is just word I need to hear to find out that 'serious' people have made their decision already and that my vote in the primaries for Clinton/Edwards/Obama/Other is not even worth the value of a electronic ballot print-out.

Obama's father's name is Barry Soetoro. Amazing, huh?

If, by a long long shot, Hillary got the nomination. She would need a hugh black vote to win. She would never never get it. We will always remember that she said her base was the blue collar white working class. Let them put her in office. If she ran, not even obama could get a lot of us to vote for her. This is one bridge she has burned and it will never be rebuilt. If she got 20% of the black vote now, it would surprise me.
