Saw a good bumper sticker yesterday from one of those war loving Americans. "I'm Against the Next War."

When the powers that be impoverish the people to pay for war....and inspire recruitment to participate in the killing, what's not to love?

There seems to be only one thing that cures war fetishists of their disease - the personal experience of its effects. (see, Europe, 20th c.)

Nothing short of utter destruction seems to cure this disease. Which is where our karma seems to be taking us.

Draft = cure for war.

Americans DO NOT love war. It is the warmongers who love war. It is the greedy who love war. It is those who believe that they have the right to oil that love war.

Most of the time, draft = lost war. Being compelled to do a job doesn't usually get the best effort. On the other hand, mandating, as many European countries do, a two year stent in the military might see a more responsible electorate. Move our electorate to be more public service oriented. One could substitute something like the Peace Corp for the military, anything to get people more involved in the community.

Judith - they may not love it, but they don't hate it enough.

Now I know why we are losing in Iraq and Afganistan.

According to peter, it's because we don't mandate military service, which is somehow not a draft. Instead, the mandate is involuntary service to an authority. A draft...but really different since it's not a draft but more like conscription, which is a draft, but in peter's scheme it is not...a draft. Peter's idea is a call-up, or national service, which are drafts, but really aren't since it's involuntary and service to an authority. These are not drafts regardless of being drafted under them.

I think peter takes his loyalty oath to the republi-cons a little too seriously. Party over country is wearing me thin.

Let's try this again. An age specific rquirement of say two years public service to the country as many European countries require. Might not be that bad an idea. May improve our citizenship some, as well as provide life experiences at a time when many aren't too sure of their direction. This isn't anything new, except to Americans.

So which type of Democrat are y'all? McGovern or FDR?

Losing Judith? Nope, we're winning, the AP has already said so...

Nice "I Mudd" script there Phid, updated of course. (smile) Hartan Finton Mudd...Stella, shut up!

George Walker Bush is as dangerous today as he was yesterday. There is absolutely no doubt where we are heading, and it is not good news for Americans.

Washington Post today.

The Justice Department has proposed a new domestic spying measure that would make it easier for state and local police to collect intelligence about Americans, share the sensitive data with federal agencies and retain it for at least 10 years.

The proposed changes would revise the federal government's rules for police intelligence-gathering for the first time since 1993 and would apply to any of the nation's 18,000 state and local police agencies that receive roughly $1.6 billion each year in federal grants.

Quietly unveiled late last month, the proposal is part of a flurry of domestic intelligence changes issued and planned by the Bush administration in its waning months. They include a recent executive order that guides the reorganization of federal spy agencies and a pending Justice Department overhaul of FBI procedures for gathering intelligence and investigating terrorism cases within U.S. borders.

The suggestion of mandating service for Americans, coming from a numb nuts, who has probably never served one day in the military, Peace Corps or anything other organization that didn't personally enrich him or his friends is laughable. Not to mention talk of "community." Your idea of community is the guys in your friggin country club!

You and people like you, always think it is a good idea to send someone kid someplace while your children receive deferments. Unless you can somehow prove to this blog that you served anyone other than yourself in some manner, your suggest don't mean shit!

suggestion. (LOL)

Although it proved to be a severe strain on my gag reflex, I sat thru the entire saddleback inquisition.

Obama taught me that evil is god's test and that he relies on Jesus to wash away his sins.

The "3" most important people he will rely on in his administration are his wife and grandmother.

Apparently, McCain was a POW, and got his restraints loosened by a christain commie guard on x-mas. One of his most important peeps is the founder of E-bay.

MSNBS has declared McCain the blowout winner, and that Obama is in real trouble going into the debates.

Here we go again, folks. Corporate MSM is for no tax Johnny.
