Stronger, but still pretty weak.
Posted by MaskedVigilante at August 20, 2008 02:04 PMSo, McCain is in bed with Abramoff. What a surprise. And wasn't Reed the one who pushed the "McCain has a black baby" smear? I guess money does change everything.
Posted by iamcoyote at August 20, 2008 02:25 PMUh, no.
McCain's Indian Affairs committee's research and hearings are what exposed Abramoff and Reed.
This ad will look deceptive to the public.
Posted by Mary at August 20, 2008 02:44 PMIs that a subtle attempt at peeling away part of the Evangelical vote? Nobody else knows who Ralph Reed is. And most people don't remember who Abramoff is. Who cares about some arcane senate procedure? Nobody.
Talk about burying the lede! That ad requires the listener to follow six steps of logic to get to the important/emotional pay-off line: "For 26 years in Washington John McCain has played the same old games. We just can't afford more of the same." The agency that made that ad should be sued for malpractice. It's a good pay-off line, but, SIX steps of logic????!!!!!
They would do much better to simply show the picture of McCain hugging Bush for thirty seconds. They wouldn't even need sound. Just the image with one line of text at the end. "Four. More. Years?" That image says it all and it ought to lose McCain the election.
C'mon Obama. Someone of character (you) gets angry when a presidential candidate distorts
Posted by swimyouidiot at August 20, 2008 04:56 PMI found the ad confusing as well, and a long way to go with some feeble accusations to a punch line that should've been up front.
C'mon. Ralph Reed? That all you got?
Posted by MaskedVigilante at August 21, 2008 05:15 AMJohn McLame, Indian Agent. Small portion:
Senator McCain and his predecessors introduced legislation (S1973-1 and S.1003) which they claimed were justified by what has turned out to be a non-existent range war between the Dineh (mainly consisting of grandfathers and grandmothers in their 70's living on farmlands that had belonged to their tribe since 1500 AD) and the Hopi (the 3-5 individuals rapidly assembled to assist Peabody Western Group by Senator McCain, Congressman Owens and John Boyden).Subsequently, as the Dineh were removed from their farms by the "Relocation Commission" authorized by the US Senate at the behest of the revisions to the Public Law 93-531 introduced as S.1973-1 (1996 Partition) and S.1003 (2001 and 2005 accelerated removal of the Dineh by amendment) by Senator McCain, expanded Coal Mining Rights to their lands were granted to Peabody Western who with Bechtel Corp, have been mining the lands formerly occupied by the Dineh, and piping the coal to the Mohave Generating Station in Nevada, which serves the Las Vegas and Reno areas power needs.
Mary you're slobbering all over McTool!
Posted by Seven of Six at August 21, 2008 07:24 AMI watched the hearings on C-Span, Seven.
It was only through those hearings that the Abramoff/Reed emails were found, and made their way to the public.
Besides, the other posters are right: the ad is obtuse and confusing, not helpful.
And for your information: I'm not FOR McCain. I'm FOR Obama being more clear and more forceful, sans Adlai Stevenson.
Do you even UNDERSTAND that reference?
Posted by Mary at August 21, 2008 07:54 AMI heard this wasn't a national ad, but one shown in Atlanta, where people know the Reed/Abramoff scandal. Makes a difference, doesn't it?
Posted by iamcoyote at August 21, 2008 08:48 AMBesides, the other posters are right: the ad is obtuse and confusing, not helpful.
It clearly shows the connection between Reed/Abramhoff.
Then you say... "McCain's Indian Affairs committee's research and hearings are what exposed Abramoff and Reed."
It still shows the voters in Georgia, the state (not the country) that Reed is from, giving money to McLame. What's "obtuse and confusing" about that? Pretty clear and concise if you ask me.
Arn't you the same Mary who has been denigrating Obama since he beat Hillary? I think you need to make yourself more clear at TLC.
Oh for God's sake, Seven.
You must be one of those fools who think Obama might win Georgia.
Nevermind. You missed the point, as usual.
