Comments: Change of Heart on Obama's VP Pick

Disregard Minnesota poll...it was take by Public Radio and University of Minn.....never been right before, usually not even close, and it is not now.

I woke up at 4:00 this morning with a dream about who Obama chose as his VP and then couldn't get back to sleep. I hope we find out today so I can get a full night's sleep tonight.

In the mean time, I don't blame them for not wanting to change the dominant subject in the media. I think McCain should respond that he will solve the foreclosure crisis by letting people live in his homes!

...do you think it could be Walter Mondale?

Carter,,errr,,Obama/Mondale.

Has a ring to it!

Posted by jj at August 22, 2008 08:11 AM

Kathy Sebilius? Nah. She doesn't help out with BO's foreign policy weakness.

I'm still holding out for Hillary, but my money would have to be on the man who invented the position of a national "Drug Czar", so enamored with the Drug War was he.

The man who brought the death penalty for drug dealing.

The man who voted for the PATRIOT Act, then argued against it, then voted for renewing it anyway...

Mr. Bank of America himself, Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr.

And what the fuck kinda middle name is Robinette??

Obama doesn't have a foreign policy weakness. After all, now the Iraqi government and the Bush administration are backing a withdrawal timeline like he's been advocating for more than a year!

Well, except both BushCo and the Iraqi parliament still have to agree to it. I wouldn't say anybody's backing anything right now. I'd say Condi had a meeting.

"I find myself daydreaming of the possibilities: Hillary, Jesse, Dennis Kucinich, Bill Grieder, Zach de la Rocha, Russ Feingold, Bono."

and when he doesn't pick any of those, you will rant and rail on here about how the Dems are gonna lose again.
i wonder if you would do the same if it were Hillary not picking any of them?

just wondering.

Posted by interlude at August 22, 2008 08:46 AM

Why do you TLC guys care? I thought you'd written off Obama. You want Hillary to go down too?

Posted by Tim H. at August 22, 2008 08:48 AM

Politco is reporting that Hillary was never vetted by the Obama campaign.

Was never asked for anything....

Posted by jj at August 22, 2008 08:59 AM

and when he doesn't pick any of those, you will rant and rail on here about how the Dems are gonna lose again.

Yeah, except it's already happening.

i wonder if you would do the same if it were Hillary not picking any of them?

No, because Hillary could beat McCain.

Sorry, Jeff. Didn't mean to answer for you.

Please tell me this whole post was nothing but sarcastic snark.

Posted by idiosynchronic at August 22, 2008 09:56 AM

i've been saying it for months- condi would be a very dangerous pick. sure, she's been a complete disaster, but if there's anyone the media love even more than mccain, it's condi. it would be a ticket of their two favorite darlings.

Posted by Turkana at August 22, 2008 09:58 AM

There's no way in hell Condoleeza Rice will be on anyone's ticket. Not only is she not a politician, but her pre-Iraq ("mushroom cloud") and post-9/11 "no one could have predicted") words would be ruinous.

2 words (coming from Obama): Colin Powell
And for McCain it'll be someone who, by comparison, is a rank amateur.

brilliant! and then get out of it later by conveniently forgetting where he left all the keys! :-O

Left coasters, it seems Clinton didn't get vetted at all. No papers were required, no interviews, zilch. Kennedy and Holder didn't approach her at all. Now do you think she's all out there not needing vetting? Or did Obama's veter's just open up a can of spoiled dog food?

Ah the obligatory Powell reference, not going to happen.

Posted by peter at August 22, 2008 02:02 PM

I'm not waiting the least bit breathlessly. I will find out when it gets announced in the blogs, or by the media. I can't do anything about it anyway, and I have lots of stuff to be breathless about that I DO have some measure of control over.

Senator Obama's pick for a VP candidate will have to agree with the Senator regarding infanticide.

From a transcript avaiable for download here: Official Transcript. These are Obama's words. (Please note that this is an Illinois Senate website.)

"...that fetus, or child — however way you want to describe it — is now outside the mother’s womb and the doctor continues to think that it’s nonviable but there’s, let’s say, movement or some indication that, in fact, they’re not just coming out limp and dead..."

A fetus? A child? Whatever you want to call it....unfortunately it is not "limp and dead."

How about calling it a baby. A living human being. Born alive as the result of a "botched abortion." Oh my, how inconvenient for the Senator.

But the Senator knows what to do, he is the Obamassiah, The One. Let the fetus / child / whatever just die: "You there Doctor, just put that non-limp and non-dead thing over in the corner. Come back in a few hours and it will be limp and dead. No problem."

So tell me Lefties what do you call the non-limp and non-dead thing that was born of a botched abortion, other than inconvenient? What would you do with it?

And you folks support this man. Admire him. Want him to be President of the United States.

Pathetic.

Posted by Bagley at August 22, 2008 05:14 PM

Yes, Peter.

Chet Edwards.....a Pelosi recommendation....fully vetted.

Hillary Clinton not vetted at all.

THAT should go over really well with the very voters Obama needs to win, eh?

His arrogance knows no bounds.

"...now the Iraqi government and the Bush administration are backing a withdrawal timeline like he's been advocating for more than a year!"

Ummm - no.

First, the Bush regime and the Iraqi make-believe government are NOT backing a withdrawal timeline. What they are backing is is a time-buying dodge - an "aspirational time horizon", which means "some day we might consider talking about it if we decide that's what we want to do".

Second - and this should be clear by now - Obama is not planning to withdraw and end the occupation, and he never was. Obama's plan has always been to reconfigure the occupation, to scale it down, and keep it going.

"2 words (coming from Obama): Colin Powell"

WHAT?! Have you forgotten that it was he who got up in front of the whole world and presented the pack of lies that put the final nail into the coffin of Iraq? And that afterward, after he was let go from his job by Bush, he whined and whimpered about how he had been deceived?! This man has less honour than the criminals in the White House do.

"Senator Obama's pick for a VP candidate will have to agree with the Senator regarding infanticide."

I wondered how long it would be before this GOP talking point would be posted. Baggy never disappoints.

Posted by Judith at August 23, 2008 02:18 AM

Baggy doesn't mind killing human beings in Iraq, but is so concerned about "infanticide." Baggy, infanticide means the killing of an infant, not a group of cells that might, if all goes right, become an infant.
