It's a beginning.
Posted by Judith at August 29, 2008 04:39 AMOh, now I get it. The backdrop for Obama's speech was made to look similar to the Lincoln Memorial, where Martin Luthur King gave his 'I have a Dream' speech 45 years ago.
Posted by Judith at August 29, 2008 05:12 AMMSNBC says Pawlenty says he's been told it's not him.
Posted by snark at August 29, 2008 05:18 AMI suppose Obama's "new" Democratic message (aka Hillary's stump speech) would be believable if he actually embraced those values.
Remember, Obama pretended to be a progressive during the primaries, espousing to "filibuster the FISA bill," pledging to abide by campaign funding rules during the general, and criticizing NAFTA and accused Hillary for supporting it, and so on.
However, when the primary ended, he wasted nary a nanosecond to remove his progressive facade and expose his un-Democratic, right-of-center world view.
He flipped on FISA and supported the weakening of the Fourth Amendment and the expansion of executive power, he flipped on campaign finance reform and showed his lust for laundered corporate campaign contributions, and he flipped to reveal his long-standing support for NAFTA and those transnational corporations that outsource American jobs to a global, cheap labor workforce.
Can't get fooled again? I'm afraid many will.
Posted by fafnir at August 29, 2008 05:30 AMWell, faffy, let's hope they're fooled by a Dem rather than a 'puke.
Posted by iamcoyote at August 29, 2008 05:33 AMI don't give a s**t how anyone preceived his speech last night, but if it's enough to keep McBush out of the White House in January, then it works for me!!!
Posted by kcassidy@erols.com at August 29, 2008 05:50 AMI hear it's the Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin
Posted by Judith at August 29, 2008 06:11 AMWell, it's somewhat reamrkable to me that the crimes of the greatest lawbreaking president in history were not even mentioned, nor the Repub perversion of the constitution, which McShit agrees with.
Not even a glimmer of reference to the rule of law, and how electing another Repub would simply cement the damage permanently.
Other than that, good speech!
Posted by euzoius at August 29, 2008 06:32 AMgood point, euzo- and they will get away with it.
Posted by Turkana at August 29, 2008 07:04 AMHow clear does Obama have to be for you guys to stop being surprised?
He has no intent of going after the Republicans if he takes office. None. Zero. Quite on the contrary, he intends to work with them to "break the bi-partisan gridlock".
What part of "reaching across the aisle" don't you understand?
Posted by snark at August 29, 2008 07:08 AMI don't care what Obama says or does, he's only one man, and all the other Democrats he appoints can do all the gop bashing and undoing and everything else you all want done, and that is all there is to it.
And if they don't, so fucking what, being Democrats we're bound to get some things right, whereas republicans don't and haven't and won't do GOD DAMNED ANYTHING right.
Posted by Duckman GR at August 29, 2008 07:33 AMJudith, judging from Sarah's bio, she'd open up a barrel of whoopass on MBNA Biden. This campaign season is going to be very interesting....
