Comments: We Don’t Need a Rank Liar for Vice President

Actually, The Daily Howler covered the blatant lie by Palin about the Bridge to Nowhere much more convincingly than that DKos piece.

It was dead in Congress before she even became governor.

Additional coverage in today's addition of her repeat of the lie last night.

Thanks, snark, I hadn't read him yet today.

Barb was convincing enough, I thought, but you're right, Somerby was much more thorough. Thanks for the link.

Paradox, the Republicans don't care if they are lied to. All the charges and stuff coming out against Palin make no difference to the GOPers. They needed a reason to vote and now they got one. Mark this: no revelation about Palin will turn off the GOP voter now. None. No lie will matter, remember John McCain? He's lied right to our faces for a long time and is still on the ticket, albeit in the second spot now. The Wingers just needed an excuse to vote for another crooked ticket and now they got her. Fortunately, there are a lot more Dems.

Again courtesy of The Daily Howler;

"Ketchikan desires a better way to reach the airport, but the $398 million bridge is not the answer. Despite the work of our congressional delegation, we are about $329 million short of full funding for the bridge project, and it’s clear that Congress has little interest in spending any more money on a bridge between Ketchikan and Gravina Island. Much of the public’s attitude toward Alaska bridges is based on inaccurate portrayals of the projects here. But we need to focus on what we can do, rather than fight over what has happened." -Governor Sarah Palin September 21, 2007.

Doesn't sound like a woman who told Congress "Thanks but no thanks." Sounds like a woman who is resigned to the fact that Congress has shut her project down and decided it simply isn't worth spending Alaskans' dollars on.

But it's stupid, T2, McCain needed to introduce her to the country, they missed all kinds of potential opportunities with this, and in the method they chose Palin became just another Republican liar.

Plain stupid. The base was going to vote for McCain anyway. All she did was reinforce all the reasons American is sick of the GOP: lying killing fakes, country always last, party always first.

Just dumb. A helluva lot of Americans take the truth and character extremely seriously, damn right, and it was idiotic to lie about the bridge like that, for Christ's sake what a sick joke!

Atrios has a clip of Georgia Republican Rep. Lynn Westmoreland calling the Obamas "uppity."

Yeah, they just can't help themselves. They're lying liars and disgusting bigots. And to the people who vote these jerks into office, those are their plusses! These are not good people.

Posted by iamcoyote at September 4, 2008 01:36 PM

Since we're listing disgusting Republican convention exploits, here's another.

This sick individual wore an alligator hat (only a Republican) that was munching the action figure of Barack Obama.

Alligator bait is a racial southern slur referring to black children.

Just for once I wish we had a rabid media machine to take the bastard with the alligator hat out of that convention. Our media would have freaked out with something like that has a Democrat did it and that idiot would be on a plane out of the convention city today.

Posted by paradox at September 4, 2008 01:54 PM

Why are you guys surprised that Palin is a Liar? All republicans are LIARS!

Posted by angryman at September 4, 2008 02:02 PM

paradox, I linked to the gator bait pics in the previous thread, but the more, the scarier!

And yes, angryguy, I was just telling a co worker that it's not a surprise that they lie 'cos that's what they do.

¨And yes, angryguy, I was just telling a co worker that it's not a surprise that they lie 'cos that's what they do.¨

That´s what ALL politicians do.

Name one politician that has not lied.

I'm sorry but lying about the bridge to nowhere surprises me, the evidence is so easy to find and overwhelming she's totally full of shit, she must think we are total idiots.

The sky is green, she said. Okay, said the New York Times.

Just unbelievable.

Posted by paradox at September 4, 2008 02:14 PM

Jimmy Carter did not lie. Never has, never will.

RE: Jimmy Carter

Paradox,

Use The Google to look up:

¨David Marston of Philadelphia¨

I voted for Carter and while he probably was the most truthful of presidents in my lifetime (which goes back to FDR), to insinuate he never lied is at variance with the truth. At least in this reality anyway.

Posted by bobbski at September 4, 2008 02:24 PM

she must think we are total idiots.

Well, judging from reports from people in Alaska, she thinks she can bully people into silence. That may work in a town of 1000 people, but not in a country of millions. She's a small time hood thinking she can be the godfather, and it'll be fun to watch her fall. I'd hate to be her kids, though, 'cos when McCain loses in Nov. she'll be blamed and then she'll go home and blame the kids. If I were Bristol, I'd sell my story to the Nat'l enquirer for enough FU money to get the hell outta dodge. If my ma did what Palin did to her daughter, I'd be finding a microphone as fast as possible.

Posted by iamcoyote at September 4, 2008 02:35 PM

"But it's stupid, T2" - well, sure. But that doesn't matter to them either. In this case, the problem is that Palin's lies are SO easily uncovered. That's what a 18 hour vetting process will get you.

Posted by T2 at September 4, 2008 02:50 PM

Palin barefacedly lied last night because Rover knew she could and knew there would be no downside. As we predicted yesterday, the corporate GOoP-protecting media (especially TV) were warned in no uncertain terms to stop any more off-script reporting and their editors got the message loud and clear.

Repubs must have carte blanche to lie, and they'll get it from the MSM. This has just been proven again.

The country is now lied to 24/7 by one of the major political parties and the press will not only not call them on it, they will endlessly repeat the lies. The system is rigged and highly unfair. There's nothing you can do about it, it's our current reality, and its not going to change.

Will enough "independent" voters still figure things out despite the official lies and nonstop GOoP propaganda? Well, that's the big question. I'm doubting it.

Posted by euzoius at September 4, 2008 02:52 PM

Look at it this way: what would a real independent reporter do if someone said "I said NO to Congress! No pork bridge!"

Wouldn't you ask: Could you please show us how, where and when exactly you said "No" to Congress? How did you communicate that you affirmatively did not want the money from Congress? Who did you say that to? When?

Our reporters don't do this. They don't require the Repubs to back up absurd spin that flies in the face of other known facts and public documents. That's not how actual indepedent professionals charged with finding the truth (like lawyers) would operate. Hence they MUST be controlled. There really is no other logical explanation.

Really? You just awakened from an eight year coma then?

Posted by bobbski at September 4, 2008 03:46 PM

Somebody said all politicians lie. The difference is that when a Democrat(Bill Clinton) lies it is merely an embarrasment. However, when Republicans (Bush/Cheney) lie, it costs the country half a Trillion dollars, over 4100 lives, and credibility in the world.

Posted by suresh at September 4, 2008 03:59 PM

McCain needed to introduce her to the country, they missed all kinds of potential opportunities with this, and in the method they chose Palin became just another Republican liar.

Paradox, They had a whole indroductory piece on her but "A noun, a verb, 9/11" Rudy ran right over it. That is funny.

Posted by Seven of Six at September 4, 2008 04:28 PM

I decided today that McCain-Palin represent that portion of the political spectrum which I shall now call Cry-baby Conservatives. They act like cry-babies when they don't get their way and and when nobody believes them.

And I find it fascinating that because Palin is at least telegenic (and McCain isn't) that the media is buying into comparing her to Obama (who is her telegenic equal) and ignoring McCain altogether. The meme of "experience" plays into this because we have two sides arguing over the Presidential nominee vs a Vice-Presidential nominee, and it is plain easier to get a visual medium to dwell on it because McCain is such a zero to look at and listen to. The net effect is to belittle Obama without even looking at McCain.

Did you see the Nielson's ratings last night? 37.244 mil watched her, just 1.1 mil less than Obama last Thursday night.

Hey, I think you folks are very bright and intelligent.

Y'all are just so left that even a left leaning media is to the right of ya.

And then there's the latest CBS poll out today...WOW, Obama lost eight points in two days! All tied now and that was before the Barracuda spoke. So much for any DNC bounce...

Posted by peter at September 4, 2008 04:57 PM

And now the Chosen has saith...the surge has worked beyond expectations. Make sure to tune into Foxnews to see him tonight.

What a Nielsen rating, only six networks earned her that rating! Obama had 10 networks to earn his.

Obama dropped a point to 47 and McCain stayed in the same place he has always been, 43. Gigolo John McCain's bounce would be called a flatline on a cardiac monitor.

Indeed, a liar but a bit hit for Republicans
CBS Poll: McCain, Obama Tied
Sept. 4, 2008

(CBS) The presidential race between Barack Obama and John McCain is now even at 42 percent, according to a new CBS News poll conducted Monday-Wednesday of this week. Twelve percent are undecided according to the poll, and one percent said they wouldn't vote.
This is in contrast to a poll conducted last weekend, where the Obama-Biden ticket led McCain-Palin by eight points, 48 percent to 40 percent...

The poll shows a number of independents moved to the Republican column
...Why? Because Republicans, especially many white Christians, who were sitting out the election are not going to vote, now are off the bench and on the field for McCain-Palin.
Those party ID numbers don't come out of a hat, they are self-selected at the beginning of the poll by asking whether people are going to vote or not.
Look at the shift that happened (and this was prior to the speech):
CBS Now CBS Last Week
Democrats 35 35
Republicans 31 26
Independent 34 38
...

So we have candidates at the top who lie or flip on important issues, candidates for VP who are either nuts or war-whores.
Third Party, now more than ever.

Make sure to tune into Foxnews to see him tonight.

Why? It's a series of pretaped interviews. It can wait. I know what he is going to say. It's good the republi-cons and the FOX-fucktard low information viewers will get to find out what he's been saying. You may like him even if he is a ni...from Illinois.

Try again Phid

Nope. I'll use RAS and their latest. CBS screwed up their methodology.

Posted by phidipides at September 4, 2008 05:23 PM

We just need to keep producing the truth. ... the police officer's union of Alaska has filed an ethics complaint on behalf of Mike Wooten, the trooper who was embroiled in a dispute with the Palin family, and who the governor is alleged to have attempted to have fired.

According to NBC News:

The complaint alleges that the governor or her staff may have have improperly disclosed information from Wooten's personnel records. The complaint alleges "criminal penalties may apply."

It hasn't even been a full week.

BTW, Joh Stewart was on fire last night... watch his comments on Rove, O'Lielly, Dick Morris and other repuke hypocrites... instant classic.

Posted by Seven of Six at September 4, 2008 05:39 PM

Ras will change tomorrow anyway indicating Palin's speech in part.

Seven, that was the expected filing from the link I posted the other day. Try to keep up.

Posted by peter at September 4, 2008 05:50 PM

ben Smith at Politico:

Obama's coffers have been filling since Sarah Palin attacked him repeatedly in St. Paul last night.

An Obama aide confirms Drudge's report that Obama has raised about $8 million from more than 130,000 donors and is on pace to raise $10 million by the time McCain reaches the stage tonight.

UPDATE: Obama spokesman Bill Burton says, "Sarah Palin's attacks have rallied our supporters in ways we never expected. And we fully expect John McCain's attacks tonight to help us make our grass-roots organization even stronger."

Posted by Seven of Six at September 4, 2008 05:54 PM

SoS, I just might consider sending Obama a buck or two, myself.

Did you see the YouTubes of her speaking at the church? There's a bunch of them - the one I saw had her talking about how exploiting Alaska's natural resources is God's plan. There's a trove of the videos, too, I hope people with stronger stomachs will peruse them for nifty sound bites.

Posted by iamcoyote at September 4, 2008 06:01 PM

I did see the one where Palin introduces the AIP head man... who then reiterates that he hates the American Government... much like "Gawd Damn America!" moment. Let that play for the next 60 days... at least Obama's had time for his to die down.

Posted by Seven of Six at September 4, 2008 06:08 PM

Yeah, I did send Obama a few bucks myself... the "turdblossom" lies have to stop!
