wonder if the msm will call j mac to carpet for his strong stance on deregulation and then connect the dots to gramm? wonder if they will note that obama started talking about the housing mess in march?
palin and mc cain can't run hewlett packard, but neither can fiorina, yet palin can run the country if something happens to j mac?
another thing, who is at the top of the ticket, palin or mc cain? without her his crowds are anemic and disinterested at best. they shout her name when he speaks, makes one think who will be making the decisions...
Posted by anthony at September 17, 2008 03:06 AM"Earlier this month, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid made a personal appeal to Barack Obama: Help me grow the Democrats’ Senate majority by sharing some of the $77 million you’ve got in the bank.
Obama’s campaign said no.
Although Democratic insiders say a better deal could still come, the Obama campaign so far has agreed only to let Senate Democrats use Obama’s name — as well as those of his wife and running mate — in mail and online fundraising pitches. The campaign has planned no joint fundraising events with House or Senate Democrats, and insiders say none is likely to be held before Election Day.
In rejecting a direct request from his Senate leader, Obama has put a fine point on the financial pressures he’s feeling as the presidential race turns toward the fall."
Obama isn't about party building. How many appearances have down ticket candidates on the stage with him. Where's the co-ordination with the others? The DCCC and DSCC aren't being told very much at all. Nothing for them to push as a united front, except as a reaction to anything Obama says. He doesn't even have "Democrat" on very much of his literature. Isn't he proud of the brand.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, when asked Tuesday whether Democrats bear some of the responsibility regarding the current crisis on Wall Street, had a one-word answer: “No.”
From "The Hill" yesterday
Washing her hands off of all responsibility, like some guy back some two thousand years ago...
Posted by peter at September 17, 2008 03:58 AMWow! This is amazing...the policies that are in place for the past 8 years have caused the markets to fall through the crapper. Now these assholes are trying to spread the blame around. You cutting and pasting Repug talking points just fires up people like me and I go out and register more voters.
Let me ask you ass, how much difference could the Dems in basically 1.5 years? You are such a dumb-shit with false facts and general bullshit.
Posted by angryman at September 17, 2008 05:06 AMHit the old sod hard on:
Preposterous healthcare proposals
Social Security privatization (tie to Wall St.)
Unaffordable tax proposals (as per Alan Greenspan)
The McCain candidacy is hollow at its core.
Posted by bob h at September 17, 2008 05:37 AM"WASHINGTON (CNN) — Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a prominent Hillary Clinton supporter and member of the Democratic National Committee’s Platform Committee, will endorse John McCain for president on Wednesday, her spokesman tells CNN.
The announcement will take place at a news conference on Capitol Hill, just blocks away from the DNC headquarters. Forester will “campaign and help him through the election,” the spokesman said of her plans to help the Republican presidential nominee.
Forester was a major donor for Clinton earning her the title as a Hillraiser for helping to raise at least $100,000 for the New York Democratic senator’s failed presidential bid." CNN
And the hits just keep on coming.
Posted by peter at September 17, 2008 06:17 AMWhy isn't Obama running healthcare ads against McCain? This is an economic issue.
Posted by CG at September 17, 2008 06:23 AMi guess peter you forgot to add the repubs agreeing with obama's foreign policy... kissinger, powell, et al...
i'd take those folks agreeing with me than someone who spends time between london and new york...
not to mention, can you name a single reputible economist that agrees with john commission mc cain's economic plan???
a little substance to your arguments, please...
And the hits just keep on coming.
I can understand your desperation. You're running McCain.
And Sarah? She is the gift that keeps on giving:
"The New York Times reported that Palin had given the 95,000-dollar-a-year directorship of the state division of agriculture to a high school classmate, Franci Havemeister, who cited her childhood love of cows as a qualification for running the agency."
"Throughout her political career, she has pursued vendettas, fired officials who crossed her and sometimes blurred the line between government and personal grievance, according to a review of public records and interviews with 60 Republican and Democratic legislators and local officials," The Times wrote.
But hey, didja know McCain was a POW...and the least honorable person to ever run for President? Top that with the moron Guvner from Alaska and you've got a real winner of a ticket.
McCain/Palin 08: Herbert Hoover and a Tina Fey impersonation on acid.
Posted by phidipides at September 17, 2008 08:12 AM"Washing her hands off of all responsibility, like some guy back some two thousand years ago..."
Why is it Pelosi's responsibility to clean up after the Republicans? Where is the "personal responsibility" of the Republicans?
Posted by ann at September 17, 2008 08:19 AMObama has been attempting to prevent this crisis for a couple of years now.
From his speech yesterday:
In February of 2006, I introduced legislation to stop mortgage transactions that promoted fraud, risk or abuse. A year later, before the crisis hit, I warned Secretary Paulson and Chairman Bernanke about the risks of mounting foreclosures and urged them to bring together all the stakeholders to find solutions to the subprime mortgage meltdown. Senator McCain did nothing.
Last September, I stood up at NASDAQ and said it’s time to realize that we are in this together – that there is no dividing line between Wall Street and Main Street – and warned of a growing loss of trust in our capital markets. Months later, Senator McCain told a newspaper that he’d love to give them a solution to the mortgage crisis, “but” – he said – “I don’t know one.”
In January, I outlined a plan to help revive our faltering economy, which formed the basis for a bipartisan stimulus package that passed the Congress. Senator McCain used the crisis as an excuse to push a so-called stimulus plan that offered another huge and permanent corporate tax cut, including $4 billion for the big oil companies, but no immediate help for workers.
This March, in the wake of the Bear Stearns bailout, I called for a new, 21st century regulatory framework to restore accountability, transparency, and trust in our financial markets. Just a few weeks earlier, Senator McCain made it clear where he stands: “I’m always for less regulation,” he said, and referred to himself as “fundamentally a deregulator.”
McCain is a dumbass. He has been all about "hands off," "deregulation," "the free market will fix everything" bullshit his entire fucking career. He might be a good actor as some "America first" "maverick" but it is all a lie. He proved this beyond a shadow of a doubt when he did not choose who he wanted for VP and instead went with who the Party bosses demanded. He is a dangerous lightweight; and make no mistake, he will not be the one running the show if he gets in the WH.

Hopefully DoW can get enough $ to keep it out there.
Posted by Anjha at September 17, 2008 08:25 AMDamn...things are so good for Sarah Palin that she isn't allowed to talk to the press again. Period. ROFLMAO!!
McCain/Palin 08: Gramps says to Gidget, "STFU!"
Posted by phidipides at September 17, 2008 08:45 AMThe question, anjha, is will the corporate press allow McShit to turn his 26 year conservative extremist deregulating "career" on its head and run as though he's a man of the little guy needin' regulation of the evil robber barons?
Obama better smack this lying, disgusting about-face pretty hard today, else McGOoP will be allowed to get away with this latest "redefinition". The Big Lie still works, never forget.
Posted by euzoius at September 17, 2008 08:51 AMJust thinking about family values--all this stuff about how children do best being raised by two parents in a loving marriage (something I agree with, though I don't care if the two parents are opposite sex or not), yet McCain has lived in DC while Cindy and the kids have lived in AZ for their entire marriage. Anyone point that out to him?
And thinking more about Palin, even though I think this has nothing to do with the election, I think she's nuts to run. I was reading about raising a down syndrome child and it can entail a lot of appointments both for physical things that often come with Downs and for other special education and therapies. I saw a clip of an interview with her before all this and she was asked how she could be governor while raising 4 kids and expecting a 5th. She said she was lucky to have a large family with lots of help from aunts, uncles and grandparents. Are they all going to move to DC to help her? Are Bristol and Levi going to move to DC so they can be near the rest of the family, or will they stay in Alaska and get help from his family. Bristol might want her mom around being 17 with a newborn. But what a huge change to move across country, as though a new marriage and a new baby weren't challenging enough. And I'm not being sexist. I'd be asking the same questions if it were Todd running. I don't really think this should affect the way someone votes, but she has definitely made choices I can't imagine making. Country first? How about family first?
Posted by CG at September 17, 2008 09:03 AMPalin is no friend to women.
The more that I read about her the more that I am convinced that she is one of the most anti-women candidates ever put up for this high of office.
She is so dangerous to women and people need to understand (especially women) that she will turn the clock back 60 years for all of us.
And yes, euz, the media must report the truth about the "maverick" and I still believe that we need to continue to redefine maverick as reckless and impulsive...the last thing that we need in these dangerous times.
Posted by Anjha at September 17, 2008 09:16 AMMary:
This is to inform all that there is a completely false e-mail going around about Obama and McCain tax plans. It is written by Rober D. Jenkins and it is a typical Republican "Swift Boat" type lies. The Snopes.com which evaluates all rumors, stories, etc has already declared this e-mail as FALSE.
This e-mail is to scare people by falsely showing that under Obama administration all taxes will go up considerable while McCain administration will provide tax cuts.
One example is that Obama will remove the current $500,000 exemption (for a couple) on capitol gain tax for a sale of a home by a home owner. There is absolutely no truth in it. This tax remains in effect till 2010 1nd then it will come for renewal in Congress. Obama or any other President cannot do anything about it.
If people start believing these lies, lot of Democrats may vote against Obama because this e-mail does paint a dark picture about taxes under Obama administration.
I know this because some of my educated friends were quoting the numbers from this e-mail.
We were duped by Republicans in last 2 elections and see what happened to our country in last 8 years. I hope the voters will not be duped again.
For the sake of our country, this and similar blogs should expose these lies instead of spending time in criticizing Obama for him not talking about certain issues. The first priority should be to keep Republicans out of Whitehouse.
Posted by suresh at September 17, 2008 09:24 AMHave you ever seen where the VP lives? Plenty of room for lots of visitors. No you wouldn't CG, where's the concern for the Obama daughters?
Posted by peter at September 17, 2008 09:26 AMWell, we've got the perfect distillation of a happy loving nuclear family with the Obamas. And the Bidens. Doesn't matter a bit to a "family-values" wingnut turd.
What the Religious Family Values Right say are so "important" for a family is meaningless. The question is, will the candidate be sympathetic to advancing a theocracy and support laws based on rules supposedly found in "divine" scripture. That's what matters.
Failed personal situations, non-traditional "lifestyles"---these only matter if the candidate is a Dem. The GOoP is a tribe, not a collection of rational actors.
Posted by euzoius at September 17, 2008 09:32 AMShe is terrifying.
You know, over the last couple of weeks, speaking with people whom I respect greatly...the smartest people who I know all say about Palin:
"She is scary."
Really, when I think about this I know that they look into her cold, calculating eyes and see nuclear holocaust as the logical endpoint.
She believes that Armageddon will come in her lifetime and she is almost in a position to bring it along.
I am convinced that people who are not terrified of her are also dangerous people. Like the person husband encountered yesterday who said "Keith Olbermann was fired because he kept calling Sarah "Miss Wasilla."" The kind of false-information voter, who is worse than the low-info kind, these are the type of people who are better off just filling in a picture with the bubbles on their ballot than walking in thinking that they know something about something.
Gawd help us all of this person gets anywhere near the WH. And we should absolutely no underestimate her....she is dangerous and her psychopathic appeal might just work.

Why aren't there any posts here about McCain lying about the size of his rallies? Or Palin lying about her teleprompter going down?
These are the stupid, dumb ass lies that really piss the public off.
These are the lies that people "understand."
Posted by Anjha at September 17, 2008 09:38 AMRemember back when Bush tried to push Social Security "reform" on us after his re-election? Anyone else really, really glad the Democrats stood up to him and said, "No way," given the state of the market?
Posted by ann at September 17, 2008 09:41 AMsuresh, those types of false emails are what decided the 2004 election, and they will decide this one as well. The Repubs know this, that's why they're sending them night and day, day after day.
The Repubs never talk about their false email tree strategy, nor do the press. The Dems foolishly ignore this massive river of electronic lies.
But the GOoP works hard to ensure that these lies are sent to every independent rube and Dem leaner in the country, and they rhen vote based on the lies. That's why many indepedents think Obama is "really" a muslim, and the Clintons killed people, and Obama's tax plan increases taxes on everyone but the wealthy.
For every person who learns something on a blog, 10 get a vicious lie in their e-mailbox. Many people look at nothing more online than their email. Again, Repubs know this.
The little problem that America has is that Repubs cheat and Repubs lie. They'll NEVER stop, they are an unreformable criminal organization. It's very difficult to stop a cancer like the GOoP once it has spread into the organs.
This election will be more corrupt and filled with GOoP lies and lawbreaking than the last---it's all they have, it will likely be enough.
