"The Real Scoop On Palin’s Staged Town Hall Meeting — Another Pretend Moment!

http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/

So, what was the catch? Unlike most town-hall events, which are open to the public, include diverse crowds, and no one needs an advance invitation, this event was for ticket-holders only. And the only way to get a ticket was through the local Republican Party, after an advance RSVP. No wonder Palin was prepared to play “stump the candidate” — it was a very friendly crowd that had no interest in testing her.

It doesn’t exactly sound like a vote of confidence in the candidates’ ability to answer tough questions, does it?"

How long will the GOP continue to get away with lying, cheating and deceiving the American people?

Posted by bacaangel at September 18, 2008 08:48 AM

just as the surprise Palin choice immediately slammed the door on Obama's great performance in Denver, the Wall Street collapse has slammed the door on Palin. People have seen enough of her to "get it" and move on to their pocketbooks. The GOP Base has their cover to vote for a guy they do not like and everyone else can see she's lucky just to be a governor of a small state (population-wise) and nothing more. But just as when gas was at $4 a gallon, the Wall Street mess (quite simply as much a creation of McCain and Gramm as anyone) has hit the country between the eyes and re-focused us on how terrible the Republican 8 years has been for this country. Therefore, the only real agent of change, Barack Obama, is now regaining his grip on the electorate. We have a little over a month to go before the election and the question now is what can the GOP and McPOW do to slam the door on Obama again? And could George W. Bush play a part or is he totally consumed with the 23rd of January?

As I've made clear, I'm not interested in Palin's personal issues,...

I am very interested. It is a glaring example of "white privelege" that allows anyone to say Palin's family doesn't matter. Her family matters because they are indicative of her ability to control even the most base aspects of her life, let alone govern. If Caribou Barbie were Black or Hispanic we would be hearing the most vile crap imaginable about the great social ills related to teenage pregnancy and the breaking down of families in these groups.

My best friends next door neighbor belongs to the largest evangelical church (whites only, please) in this little red state of mine. This is how these clowns are explaining Bristol's pregnancy. You see, it is just like the christmas tree surrounded by presents -with the analogy that sex is a christmas present. Some kids are so excited by the tree surrounded by presents that they can't control their actions and they open a present before christmas. Poor Bristol, her christmas tree was surrounded by presents and she just had to open it.

Palin's family is an issue. The kids were out of control and what did Palin do to control it? How out of control does your family have to be for your son to cut the brake lines on school buses kids ride in? There is something seriously wrong with Palin. Her family is one indicator, and they must be considered along with the other glaring examples coming to us from Alaska.

On the other side you've got Michelle Obama who is called "angry" once again, and got pilloried for being at home for the first week of her kid's school instead at the 9-11 memorial. What's the difference between the moose blower from Wasilla and Michelle? White privelege. That's all.

Ouch!

In an interview with the Omaha World-Herald, Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel (R) suggested that Palin doesn't have the foreign-policy experience to be president. "'She doesn't have any foreign policy credentials,' Hagel said in an interview. 'You get a passport for the first time in your life last year? I mean, I don't know what you can say. You can't say anything.'"

Check out this other Hagel line: "'I think they ought to be just honest about it and stop the nonsense about, "I look out my window and I see Russia and so therefore I know something about Russia,"' he said. 'That kind of thing is insulting to the American people.'"

And this one: "'I think it's a stretch to, in any way, to say that she's got the experience to be president of the United States,' Hagel said."

Posted by snark at September 18, 2008 10:27 AM

Phid, is there any actual reporting on the brake line thing? Is it actually true? I would assume if it happened, it's a juvie record and it's sealed.

I agree, if Palin weren't white, her family would be an issue. And if she were a democrat, but still white) Bristol would be compared to Hollywood teen celebs who get pregnant (and lots of them even get married!)

Bill O'Reilly said Palin doesn't compare to Jamie Lynn Spears parents because there's no evidence Palin's kids were running wild. Well, you can't hover over your teen every second, but I gotta say, I'm the youngest of 3 girls and none of us had sex before college. It's not that complicated to instill in your kids that sex is a wonderful thing that should happen with the right person at the right time.

CG apperantly that is why the kid joined the military. That was his choice: jail time or military.

Also, many in AK know all about it but their attitude is 'mind your own business' because that is how small towns work. Everyone else is an outsider and they do not need to know.

Makes sense to me...

except now she is running to be our VP, so it is our right to know.

Posted by Anjha at September 18, 2008 10:56 AM

And this one:

Lord, snark. I would expect a "snark" like this to come from you, and it would leave me ROFLMAOing all day. But this is reality! Oh god, this is really happening. The mirth is killing me:

George "Macaca" Allen is heading Virginia's GOP Minority Outreach unity rally this Saturday.

Where's my Albuterol inhaler? I laughed so hard I can't breathe.

Phid, is there any actual reporting on the brake line thing?

Hi CG. That's a fair question: Rather than chase every possible source, I'll link this one.

Posted by phidipides at September 18, 2008 10:59 AM

apparently

crap, I am done for today

Posted by Anjha at September 18, 2008 11:01 AM

Yeah, in a dorm room! ;)

Lol. Seriously though, I want my kids to wait until after high school, but I would never try to tell them to wait until marriage. Hell, my parents didn't even wait until they were married and that was in the 50's.

Posted by CG at September 18, 2008 11:14 AM

CG apperantly that is why the kid joined the military. That was his choice: jail time or military.

Thanks for the link (you too phid). I do remember at the 9/11 sendoff of her son, Palin said how proud she was that he voluntarily joined the army, as if other people had to be drafted or something. It did seem like she doth protest too much. I'd heard the rumors and that made me believe them. I was just looking for sourcing.

Possible vote caging in Florida

TALLAHASSEE — A new pitch for John McCain's presidential campaign aimed at older Democratic voters is causing complaints by Democrats and concern by elections officials.

The piece, paid for by the Republican National Committee and authorized by McCain, tells voters it is seeking to double-check their "unconfirmed" party affiliations while asking for money. A letter signed by McCain tells the Democrats: "We have you registered as a Republican."

snip

Some Democrats suspect a motive beyond raising money. The first-class GOP mailing has a "Do not forward" instruction on the envelope, meaning they will be returned to the GOP if a recipient has had mail forwarded, perhaps to a summer address, or has moved.

Letters returned as undeliverable can be compiled into "challenge lists" of unverifiable addresses and can be used to challenge voters' eligibility during early voting or on Election Day. The vote suppression technique is known as "vote caging."

McCain doesn't masturbate? Why? Because it's "wrong" or because for him at 72 years old it's more like a taffy pull?

My mind's eye just went blind! Thanks a shit load, MV.

Making light of a POW's war injuries again!

But isn't it that he can't get his arms over the height of his shoulders...my mind's eye just esploded.

Posted by phidipides at September 18, 2008 01:46 PM

I take nothing away from Sen. McCain's legendary and heroic history of punching the clown.

Besides from what I read Songbird, while in the POW camp, got more tail than Frank Sinatra.

Of course, that would explain Cindy's carpal tunnel problems. I've heard she's indefatigable when she's out to accomplish something.

Two Future Obama Campaign Moments:

1. "Obama: Still Spackling the Ceiling with the Best of 'Em"

2. Find Tom Cruise, get him to show up at an Obama rally in his "Top Gun" Maverick clothes, and take the fucking name back. Palin must've used it 4 or 5 times last night w/ Hannity.

Posted by MaskedVigilante at September 18, 2008 01:50 PM

I wonder how McCain feels about the Bush admin denying the POWs from the first Gulf War the right to sue the Iraqis for their torture and confinement, hmmm? Someone should ask him.

Palin must've used it 4 or 5 times last night w/ Hannity.

Real war heroes don't sue, coyote. They serve, come home, and spend the rest of their lives suffering emotional and physical torment in silence.

The Defenders of Wildlife 30 second very disturbing ad on Palin's fondness for aerial hunting of wolves and bears has been airing in Ohio and Florida thanks to donations from around 14,000 people (including me). Next goal is to collect enough money to air it in Michigan.

I have a personal story to tell about the effectiveness of this ad. A long time friend of mine, who is an animal lover, was extremely taken with Palin (even though he is a determined secularist and does not agree with her religious or political views). We fought violently over this issue every time we talked to the point that it was almost threatening our friendship. I sent him a link to the Defenders of Wildlife ad, and now he finds her absolutely disgusting and cannot stop talking negatively about her.

This ad will accomplish two things: 1) It will make anyone who cares about humane treatment of animals and/or sensible, humane and ethical management of wildlife think twice about supporting her. 2) It will bring awareness to this horrifically brutal practice in which the animals are terrorized sometimes for hours, tormented, and then given a terrifying, confusing, and painfully lengthy death.

To view the ad (warning you that it is quite graphic and very disturbing unless you are as devoid of empathy as Palin and her ilk appear to be), go here.

To make a small or large contribution to help ensure the ad is aired as widely as possible, go here.

Posted by Shirin at September 18, 2008 11:40 PM

Thanks, Shirin, for supporting the ad. It needs to be seen, as horrific as it is. The Fundies never did care much for animals, and this practice is truly shocking and disgusting.

As for your friend though...

A long time friend of mine, who is an animal lover, was extremely taken with Palin (even though he is a determined secularist and does not agree with her religious or political views)

Then he was taken with her... 80's hair? Must be a MILF thing.

Anyway, glad he's over that and on board with not only stopping this woman from getting in the White House, but after she's beaten let's go to Alaska and stop this shit from ever happening again.

You know commercial airline pilots STILL are not allowed to have firearms in the cockpit. Even after 9/11. But these fucking Yetis are shooting wolves from a plane for shits and giggles.

Funny old world.
