Comments: You Little People Do Not Matter

“In the long term, it is good news because it will encourage better behavior from everyone.”

Ummmm, two words.

Moral. Hazard.

forced small government and reduced entitlements. Gee, one could wonder if the bailout of the worst financial crisis in decades wasn't a GOP plan all along?

Well, you hit upon the subtext immediately, turkana---"this cripples the domestic policy programs" of the next president, but not his militarist policy programs. Good thinking, Jim Cooper (D).

With two parties like this, it's clear that no progress is possible.

And I love how he talks about just "next year and beyond". The numbers being bandied about are greater than the amount spent on Iraq so far---over a trillion.

By George, I think she's got it. To blame the Republicans for the whole mess requires "a willing suspension of disbelief." as Clinton said to Petraeus. Republicans believe on some invisible hand to fix everything. Democrats are just as guilty. Reid and Pelosi have sat on their hands since January 2007, knowing full well that the train wreck was coming down the pike, but Reid and Pelosi put their political interest above the interest of Americans.

I'm sorry, but I disagree. How in hell were Reid and Pelosi supposed to fix this problem in the first year of having a majority? Even with a majority, they've discovered how obstructionist the Reps are still going to be. And don't forget Bush and his magic veto pen. Fat chance in hell that they could have gotten anything through to fix the mess of upteen years of Republican deregulation initiatives. The train wreck was coming and the only thing that might have stopped it was if the SCOTUS had not installed Bush in office.
