The Socialists won for two reasons and it was not because of the terrrorists or Osma.

1.Spain was overwelmingly (90%)against the war on Iraq. In a democracy it is wise for leaders to sometimes listen to the people.

The Socialists propably would of still lost if it had not been for reason 2.

2.The Conservatives lied and hid the facts concerning Al Queda's links to the bombings, instead blaming it on ETA-all this for political reasons-to win the election.

This sounds familar!! Bush lied about links of Iraq to Osama. And he went against the majority of Americans and the world who thought that Iraq was a sideshow.

i can only hope that the results are the same here in the U.S.

Add a third reason: Bush looked like an idiot on Spanish TV last week, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The wages of stupidity:

"Last week, Bush and First Lady Laura Bush were interviewed on Spanish television and offered condolences for the commuter-train attack.

"But when Bush extolled Spain's 'great traditions of democracy,' some viewers said they thought he sounded patronizing or that he had forgotten the 39-year dictatorship of Generalissimo Francisco Franco, still fresh in the memories of many voters."

Of course, to forget the Franco dictatorship, Bush would have to have known about it in the first place. Ignorance, as they say, is bliss.

It is now a fact: The Spaniards, as a people, are smarter than we Americans - they have no trouble telling the difference between Iraq and the terrorists.
Pathetically, our polls here have shown that 50% or more of our population thinks that Saddam was responsible for 9/11.
Contrast that with Spain: their President lied to them about who caused the train bombing - they didn't believe him - they went to the polls (77% of them!!) and voted their president out of office - they then went out and captured the real bombers.
I salute the Spaniards - Democracy in Spain won!
