Comments: Fate of Debates Unknown

Not clowns, these are television hounds who believe their own propaganda.

The Financial Times (England) is taking the bailout seriously. Our economy is tied to the world economy whether you like it or not.

If you watched Obama flub his speech this morning you might think it's a good thing the debate could be postponed. He needs all the help he can get.

Posted by jmac at September 25, 2008 08:15 AM

No, there will be no debates. Whenever Obama and McCain get done saving the world at the White House today and fly back to Florida, there's no time. Obama's gonna pull an all-nighter to prepare for a debate that could be watched by 100 million people?

Nope. Songbird tried to kill the debate and ended up looking like a fool. So Dubya cleaned it up.

"Hell, I'm still the pres'dnt, ain't I? Can I summons them here?"

Good try JMAC.....seems your boy isn't in Washington to FIX the problem....Ms Moosedick looked liked a fourth grader in her Couric interview....turns out Rick Davis is still an active member of Davis Manafort.....not to worry, the debates will go on as planned and your boy will bomb.

So much fun watching the trolls wretch in their own vomit......L-A-N-D-S-L-I-D-E

If barry was so interested in debates why then did he not answer the call for those Town Hall debates?

By the by, why is it such a big deal for him to post his birth certificate, not the photoshop version but the real honest-to-God certificate?

Why has it taken a suit in Federal Court to seek compliance?

Posted by bobbski at September 25, 2008 08:57 AM

Not coming to debates should simply disqualify the GOP candidates. That's all there is to it. Of course, jmac's heroes, Palin/McCain, are lying about "suspending the campaign" since their ads and surrogates are all over the tv. Everyone I've talked to today, down to the grocery store bagger is laughing at McCain being such a pussy. It's pretty much over for him at this point.

Posted by iamcoyote at September 25, 2008 08:59 AM

Why doesn't bobski understand how to post a comment?

Posted by euzoius at September 25, 2008 08:59 AM

Jesus Christ, bobbski. Repeating it 3 times doesn't make it any more interesting. Troll elsewhere.

Posted by MaskedVigilante at September 25, 2008 09:00 AM

euzoius, it's obvious, he's an idiot. Can't you tell? It must be liberating for the GOP trolls not to have to pretend they have any intelligence (not that their earlier pretense was convincing in any way). Now they can let their "I'm Stupid, I'm voting for Stupid" flags fly! MV, I say, let 'em post! It's hilarious! No shame, no embarrassment from them at all. I must say, when I see a McCain stick on a car, (more likely a gas-guzzling SUV), I give it a wide berth. Stupid is dangerous and you never know when a GOoper's gonna just forget where they are and jump a curb to kill kids or something.

Posted by iamcoyote at September 25, 2008 09:04 AM

MV, I say, let 'em post!

You're right as usual, C.

Bobbski, c'mon back. Throw some more of that weak-ass shit at us and we'll have some fun.

Petey? Where you at?

Posted by MaskedVigilante at September 25, 2008 09:09 AM

Seems like Mr Democrat himself understands McCain postponing the debates. Didn't you get your memo?

"ABC News' Nitya Venkataraman Reports: Former President Bill Clinton defended Sen. John McCain's request to delay the first presidential debate, saying McCain did it in "good faith" and pushed organizers to reserve time for economy talk during the debate if the Friday plans move forward."

Snip.

"We know he didn't do it because he's afraid because Sen. McCain wanted more debates," Clinton said, adding that he was "encouraged" by the joint statement from McCain and Sen. Barack Obama.

"You can put it off a few days the problem is it's hard to reschedule those things," Clinton said, "I presume he did that in good faith since I know he wanted -- I remember he asked for more debates to go all around the country and so I don't think we ought to overly parse that."

Of course Bill has an agenda quite apart from getting Barry O elected.

I love this line...

"We know he didn't do it because he's afraid because Sen. McCain wanted more debates,"

He, McCain, wanted MORE debates. It is Barry O that didn't want them. What is he afraid of???

Just because he spent three days in a hotel room craming for the debate? You wouldn't think the future savior of the world would need to bone for the debate would you? Goes to his lack of experience that we have been talking about for the last year.

Posted by manapp99 at September 25, 2008 09:15 AM

Paradox: Just saw Haley (I can't believe I ate the whole thing) Barbour skewer McShame's plan as he announced the DEBATE IS ON.....sorry jj, archive that!!!

Posted by Goyo at September 25, 2008 09:16 AM

MV, petey's not funny, just sad.

So, did anyone else see the Louisiana GOoPer who wants to bring back Eugenics? He's offering $1000 to poor (minority, I'm sure) women to get sterilized. He also wants tax incentives for well off women to have more (white) babies. I have no doubt he's also for forced sterilization of mentally ill and disabled women as well. Yep, we've timewarped back to the Gilded Age, folks.

Posted by iamcoyote at September 25, 2008 09:18 AM

what is clear this morning: McPOW is scared to debate, McPOW is scared to have Palin debate, McPOW's campaign has not "suspended" (a flat lie), McPOW as of yesterday had not even read the Paulson proposal, and a "Deal" had been essentially struck by the time McPOW quit the race in order to put together a "Deal".

Posted by T2 at September 25, 2008 09:22 AM

I have no doubt he's also for forced sterilization of mentally ill and disabled women as well.

By contrast, I'm for forced sterilization of Louisiana, lawyers, white supremacists, and stupid people.

This LaBruzzo cat seems to have hit all my standards. So when it comes to sex and what the Almighty Lord Baby Jesus thinks is okay, we're now left with abstinence or sterilization?

Looks like it's me and you again tonight, Rosie.

Posted by MaskedVigilante at September 25, 2008 09:28 AM

"what is clear this morning:"....

Clear as mud T2. Babs Boxer was just on saying there is no deal because it does not protect the "little people".

Obama and McCain are rushing to a meeting with the Pres to try and make a deal. I guess Obama finally came around to McCain's postition.

Posted by manapp99 at September 25, 2008 09:46 AM

Yeah, T2, McCain is a coward, but we already knew that, didn't we? Everywhere he goes today, there should be someone going "buk buk buk baaawk" behind his back. Eventually, he'll explode in a fit of rage, and it'll be game over.

Posted by iamcoyote at September 25, 2008 09:47 AM

Ha! Looks like Obama's going to show up at the debate, and if McCain continues hiding behind "Mistake" Palin's skirt, Obama will turn the venue into his own town hall, and have the party without Songbird McCain. Buk, buk bawk!

Posted by iamcoyote at September 25, 2008 09:53 AM

I'm still trying to figure out McPOW's thoughts on this. Is he going to vote Against any plan (not a bad political move as most of the country does Not support this Bush bailout), showing he was both a Maverick and a people's person (the fact that his Deregulation was the cause will be left unsaid), and try to force Obama and the rest of the Congress and Bush to be cast as Fat Cat Giveaway enablers? Is he that smart? I don't think so. Time will tell. OR did he really want to work out a sound solution...well, I know he's not that smart about economics...he said so himself. Is he nuts?

Posted by T2 at September 25, 2008 09:54 AM

My understanding is Obama is going to the debate, whether or not McCain shows up. The show in on.

Posted by Judith at September 25, 2008 09:57 AM

McLiar is so up to speed on the bailout crisis he "hadn't found time to read" the (3 page) Paulson plan as of Tuesday. I'm sure he'll really turn things around in Warrsshington.

Then we'll have to listen to Bush and GOoPers declare nonstop that McCain's "presence" really turned things around, whatever happens. God, what putrid crap.

If McCain doesn't show up Friday, don't reschedule the thing in the future---that debate os gone, thanks to little Johnny McRash. He's the one behind, and who supposedly thinks debates are his stong suit. And don't reschedule the VP debate, which is what the real goal of all this nonsense is.

Posted by euzoius at September 25, 2008 10:06 AM

Yeah, T2, McCain is a coward, but we already knew that, didn't we?

Yeah Iamcoyote, I seem to remember something about statements and confessions while a prisoner. He earned the name Songbird legitimately.

Posted by Judith at September 25, 2008 10:06 AM

Just saw on MSNBC that the sellout is done. Deal is made. McCain fully now enabled to say that the deal was cluttered with the pork of the tax and spend Democrats.

Why does our leadership fall, tme and again, for the trumped up and planned well in advance "Crisis" approach to legislation.

I guess they are just all the same ASS Party!

Posted by Nobody at September 25, 2008 10:11 AM

Biden was right.

A little know fact is Franklin Roosevelt did appear on TV in 1929.

Major Bowes, the predecessor of Ted Mack, filmed an early pilot of _Amateur Hour_ in which then Governor Roosevelt did a "tap" routine to "Me and My Shadow."

As he was in a wheelchair, the tap sounds were provided by strategically placed playing cards (held in place with clothespins) contacting the spokes as he wheeled wildly about the stage in perfect 8 to the bar rhythm.

As noted in his book, McCanary was in the live studio audience, so he is much older than he claims to be.

Fraid I too am back on the gloomy side of the street, para.

It's time to admit there's zero institutional opposition to fascism in this country. Zero.

Posted by Sharkbabe at September 25, 2008 10:25 AM

Just saw on MSNBC that the sellout is done. Deal is made.

I don't know the details, and I'm waiting for Krugman and Calculated Risk to weigh in before developing an opinion.

I am encouraged and hopeful, though, that a) that Barney Frank was a lead negotiator -- he is one of the few Fighting Democrats we have, and b) reports from Democratic sources that the administration caved on every key point.

But "encouraged and hopeful" does not mean happy with the deal -- again, we need to see the details and hear from the experts.

Let us understand, however, as Democrats that government does have a critical and necessary role in our society (something Republicans never want to admit), and that an intervention in a situation like this is wholly appropriate if done correctly. If the government, through action, and alleviate massive and widespread economic misery by all means they should do so. I am definitely not in the "No deal under any circumstance camp". I am in the "help the people, penalize the culprits, and prevent a reoccurance" camp.

From Reuters:

"BEIJING-- Chinese regulators have told domestic banks to stop interbank lending to US financial institutions to prevent possible losses during the financial crisis, the South China Morning Post reported on Thursday."

Clear enough for you now?

Posted by Mary at September 25, 2008 10:36 AM

This deal will fail and the Repubs will blame it on the tax and spend democrats.

There should not be one Democrat vote cast when the bill comes until at least 95% of the Republicans have cast their vote in favor of it first. The Repubs should be required to to their "Perp Walk" as a condition of the vote to approve the bailout. Then, if the Dems want it, only enough to pass by a single vote should cast a yes vote. All the rest should vote NO.

The bill will be looked at by history as a disaster. The economy is going to crash anywayand this bill will so indebt the government that it will not be able in the future to pass the legislation that will be necessary to ameliorate the pain on the people.

The middle class is rapidly being destroyed. We are racing to be another Brazil with a few at the top and the rest paupers. It would be better to let those at the top descend to the middle and preserve the middle class.

Today, we are witnessing the beginning of the greatest transfer of wealth to the top in the history of the nation--perhaps the culmination of the end of the Republic.

via Reuters:

Several traders said that late last week, Chinese authorities asked Chinese banks to report their exposure to U.S. financial institutions. That prompted Chinese banks to become more cautious about lending to foreign institutions.

The China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC) on Thursday denied a report in Hong Kong's South China Morning Post that the CBRC had told Chinese banks to stop lending to U.S. banks in the interbank market. It called the report wrong and irresponsible.

"If they are not willing to lend, this is the normal practice of risk control," CBRC vice chairman Wang Zhaoxing told Reuters.

A dealer at a major Chinese state-owned bank in Beijing said: "We are not aware of any official restrictions, but we have halted lending to some foreign banks because of risk controls." (Additional reporting by Samuel Shen) (Writing by Andrew Torchia; Editing by Jonathan Hopfner)

Seems clear to me.

Nobody, it's the biggest theft in the history of the world.

And it took one week, start to finish.

Posted by Sharkbabe at September 25, 2008 11:02 AM

"And it took one week, start to finish."

No, it has been in planning for months, if not years. We have just seen the gunman in the lobby camera and he has a sock over his head. The cashier is about to turn over the till to him now. The real perpertrators are invisible. They are in the security camera room watching. I'm sure they are going to have a special champagne lunch in some "undisclosed location" today.

Posted by Nobody at September 25, 2008 11:19 AM

I just read over at TPM that Obama should call McCain's bluff and ask for the VP debate to take place tomorrow instead.

Wonder how Jonny Mac will answer that?

I keep calling and saying "no deal" and according to the earlier article I posted the congress is being inundated with people calling and saying No Deal to this bailout.

Alas, seems they are not listening.

They sure listened to the people who wanted to "drill here, drill now" why won't they listen to all of the people who say not now on this BS bailout theft?

Posted by Anjha at September 25, 2008 11:30 AM

Was the whole purpose of this exercise by McPOW to get out of the debate? It may have been. He, as well as Obama, may have already known a deal would be reached well before the debate, which would explain why Obama said "no" to the cancellation from the start. The setup for the vote seems obvious, and I'm sure the Dems realize that if they vote for it (as they will) and half the GOP votes NO, the Dems will have once again been conned. But they seem to always fall for it.
The truth is that no real Conservative should vote for it. The second truth is that the GOP is never responsible for anything that goes wrong in this country. This bill gives them the best of both worlds.

Posted by T2 at September 25, 2008 11:53 AM

Rep Boner and McLame campaign are coordinating their efforts. Dems are saying the deal is done in principal but Boner is saying, not so fast. We must have our leader, McLame to do this deal at 4pm.

Repugs are so full of it and have their heads up their rectum. This BS is going to backfire on McLame just like his missed date with Letterman last night.

Posted by angryman at September 25, 2008 11:59 AM

"Alas, seems they are not listening."

Oh, yes, they are listening. Over at Hullabaloo and look in the comments to the top post ans you will see who the top Dems are listening to.

One thing for sure, they are not listening to us!

Posted by Nobody at September 25, 2008 12:10 PM

I heard Obama will be doing something instead to help the media fill the airtime.

Excellent counter move by the Obama campaign that leaves McCain scrambling.
