Bush wasn't talking about us, he was referring to the 1%centers, you know, his friends. Just like McCain, who said that the "economy was fundamentally strong," they both are projecting what their rich friends say.
I swear, the last words that come out of Bush's mouth, as he leave office, will be a lie.
Posted by Judith at October 21, 2008 03:44 AMYesterday Clinton and McCain were both in Saint Louis. Clinton's rally attracted 50,000 people, while McCain's rally had only 2,000 people. Nuff said.
Posted by Judith at October 21, 2008 04:07 AMSeems protesting has taken to killing animals. What's next? Kill an Afro-American and drape Obama signs over their body?
A dead bear cub was found dumped this morning on the Western Carolina University campus, draped with a pair of Obama campaign signs.
Building Maintenance workers reported finding a 75-pound bear cub dumped at the entrance to campus. It appeared to have been shot in the head as best we can tell. A couple of Obama campaign signs had been stapled together and laid over its head."

Posted by Judith at October 21, 2008 04:26 AMI just saw Obama and Clinton on GMA. The interviewer (it was just a quick question outside before or after an appearance) if there was still tension between them or if everything was ok now. Obama gave Clinton a little hug and they both said everything was fine and Obama said he couldn't thank her enough. The interviewer asked if Obama would win Florida and Clinton said "oh we'll win it." It was a nice moment and they both looked comfortable. I got a big-sister/kid-brother kind of sense from it.

Posted by onar at October 21, 2008 05:13 AMThat scream you heard this morning was John McCain looking at the polls. The trend has reversed towards Obama, again.
Zogby -- seems like only yesterday Drudge had his BREAKING NEWS alert up pointing to Zogby giving only a 2 point lead to Obama -- now has Obama up 50-42. Other polls are confirming that the Ayers/ACORN bounce has ended.
Of course I agree with Obama that we have to expect further poll tightening and can't let up. I'm at the phone bank tonight, for example. But ... good news is good news.
Posted by Anonny at October 21, 2008 05:15 AMBiden states Barack if elected will be tested militarily. Biden is wrong on this issue because we live in a different world today than the cold-war mentality Biden grew up in. Leaders around the World are waiting for Barack Obama to become President as they know him to be a fair and just man. Ready to talk through problems than to bomb, bomb Iran!
There will be crisises but they are world crises such as the economic crisis we face today, which is a world crisis and countries around the world will have to work together to address this issue. They will not be thinking about fighting but on how to turn their respective economy around and they know that it will take a combined commitment of countries to get this situation under control, along with other challenging problems like climate change and energy. World leaders realize that only by working together with unity and inclusiveness will the world problems be solved. It is no longer an individual problem or isolated. These are world problems met by countries united and not divided.

I haven't seen anyone comment on this--I wanted to say how happy I was to hear Colin Powell address the issue of the rumors that Obama is a Muslim. He said that he's not, he's a Christian, but so what if he were Muslim? Is there something wrong with that in America? Is there a problem with a 7-yr-old Muslim American kid seeing that he could grow up to be president? Good for you General Powell! About time someone said that.

What the hell does that mean idiot? What we have here is one hanger oner who makes no sense, as usual.
Posted by Judith at October 21, 2008 05:57 AMCG, I was speechless also.
"Is there a problem with a 7-yr-old Muslim American kid seeing that he could grow up to be president?"
Only in the minds of very small intellectually challanged Republicans.
Old news, but on the lighter side:

I don't care if he worships Mohammad, Jesus, Jah, or Vishnu. If that gives you comfort, then be that. But it's a fairy tale. Give it a name.
In other words, hearing he's a "Christian" scares me just as much as "Muslim".
Posted by MaskedVigilante at October 21, 2008 07:28 AMAnd I'm afraid I don't understand. Killing the bear cub would seem to be a reference to Palin. But draping the corpse with Obama signs seems to imply that Obama wants to kill bear cubs.
What am I missing?
Posted by MaskedVigilante at October 21, 2008 07:30 AMScuzzbuckets who do that to bear cubs deserve to be treated in the same manner. McCain has given voice to the lowest of the low, and I don't think he can, or even wants to, put that genie back in the bottle. At least now everyone knows what the 'puke base really looks like. Even the formerly gentle godbot in my office is turning hateful with a steady diet of Rush and Glenn Beck that she's never listened to before, and now blasts in her office at work. It's causing a great deal of dissonance for her, too, but she doesn't realize that Limbaugh is the reason. Poor thing. I hope she recovers.
And in case you missed it, here's the photo Powell was referencing on Steph's show this weekend. I can see why he was moved. It's a beautiful and poignant picture.
Posted by iamcoyote at October 21, 2008 08:22 AMHoly crap Coyote, that pic is powerful.
I am so sorry that you are subjected to that crap at work, can't you play AAR or something to combat her idiocy? CSPAN?
These sons of bitches pulling this violence shit need to be arrested in a big huge public way. Struted out in front of teevee screens everywhere with Mukasey marching them. People need to know that in America we do not tolerate this kind of behavior.
I am so afraid for Obama, Biden, the Clintons and every other Democrat in this country. I am so afraid for all of us. These people are being so riled up, filled with lies and hate and vitriol. It is just awful when I watch those videos of the people in lines at McCain's rallies. I just can't believe that people are so ignorant and so hateful.
Our country can only survive this if we pull together. The difference between Obama crowds (happy, laughing, pulling together, being one) and McCain crowds (angry, violent, yelling, everyone for themself) is just stark. Which kind of America do you want to live in?
I think that the bear cub was just the first animal that the dicks came across. Any "animal" would do, because in these assholes heads that's what Obama is.
It is terrifying.
Also, there are already numerous reports of vote flipping machines in WV and elsewhere. Funny how when the machines break they only flip votes from Dem to Republican and never the other way. Funny how they only break that way.
I want to know what the Dems are doing about this. What they are doing right now. Before election day this has to be fought.
I rec'd an email from Robert Wexler and he is asking all of us to contact our members of congress and our secretary of state to make sure that everyone is allowed to vote and that the purge lists don't stand, etc, etc. I hope that we all ask about the vote flipping too.

Posted by phidipides at October 21, 2008 08:53 AMI want to know what the Dems are doing about this. What they are doing right now. Before election day this has to be fought.
These are the ESS machines. There are two ways to make this happen -- one is to make it so the touch area is very small for Democrats and wide for Republicans, and another is to install a "virus" that temporarily switches the votes a certain percentage of the time.
California and other states have banned these machines.
The temporary solution is that poll workers notify everyone about the problem and makes sure people check before certifying the vote. This minimizes the number of invalid votes. Obama's team has spread the word to all districts. Also, Obama's team is strongly pushing people to vote by mail, where the paper trail is present for any recounts.
The permanent solution is to ban these machines nationally, which the Democrats will do early next term.
I've talked to a few people about this in the past few days and am now convinced Obama's team is fully aware of the many vote fraud tactics of the Republicans and has contingencies for every possibility, including a massive army of trained volunteer lawyers (over 100,000 strong) on election day. They aren't making a big issue of it in the press because, to a swing voter, it sounds like sour grapes and distracts from the main message. But don't be surprised if some Republicans are caught red-handed on or near election day switching votes, such as switching memory cards from some of the electronic machines.
I don't even understand the point of the dead bear cub. If it was meant to be anti-Obama, it makes no sense at all. Is it meant to be some kind of threat?
Meanwhile Palin's got people shooting wolves and polar bears from planes to protect the moose population, but only because moose hunting is big business in Alaska.
Somebody please explain. WTF is going on with this?
Posted by MaskedVigilante at October 21, 2008 09:16 AMI am so sorry that you are subjected to that crap at work, can't you play AAR or something to combat her idiocy?
The trouble is, we're great friends, and trying to keep it that way; but not even her family (other than hubby) is for McCain, so she needed to have someone to pal around with, and Rush is the only one left that likes McCain. Sad. I'll bet she doesn't even know what socialism is, she only knows that people are being mean to "her girl." I've basically told her that she's losing her ability to "walk the walk" when she absorbs that level of hate, and like I said, the dissonance in her head is getting pretty bad. She's never listened to Rush at work before, so I think she thinks she's just being supportive. Once she's able to dump McCain/Palin after they lose, I'm hoping she'll be okay again. But I'll have to be supportive of my friend and not gloat like a sumbitch, which I would if she weren't my friend. Basically, she found god when she tried to kick the meth habit, and it worked. God's a crutch for her; it's bad, but still better than the meth, at least in her case.
Thanks, Anonny, for the update on the voting machines and Obama's lawyers. I was going to chime in about the ground game by Obama. He's totally aware of the problems. Notice not a word has been spoken about Obama's letter to Mukasey, at least anywhere other than Olberman/Maddow.
Posted by iamcoyote at October 21, 2008 09:26 AMSomebody please explain. WTF is going on with this?
It is all about intimidation. Exactly the same with the people at his rallies and the asshole who called me a Socialist.
It is all about intimidating us. Thinking that with violence they can stop us from taking our country back.
Intimidation will not work. Not anymore. Not this time. Enough.

Hmm. curious. Aren't you the asshole that kept calling Hillary a cunt during the primaries? Yes, yes, you are. Fuck you, dickweed.

RV 52-41 (same)
LV2 52-42 (MickeyC down 1)
LV1 51-44 (O+1, M-1)
Gallup is picking up on the bounce back, as are several others. Rasmussen, as usual, is cautious, not moving.
Only the erratic Battleground is hopeful for McCain today, down to a 48-47 Obama lead. Wow, they went from pro-McCain outlier (tied) to pro-Obama outlier (+12) to pro-McCain outlier in the span of 1.5 weeks. And they sample over 5 days, not counting weekends. Not much credibility there.
If Gallup is correct, using +7 under their 2004 likely voter model, then the situation is indeed dire for McCain. One week of free Ayers/ACORN coverage by all the cable channels followed by several days of free joe-the-plummer/socialist coverage and the polls are back to their peaks of a week ago.
One has to wonder if in fact Powell's endorsement did have a big effect, in terms of blunting the smears. How can Obama be a terrorist/socialist if Powell so intensely supports him? People are pre-disposed to disbelieve the smears anyway. Maybe the Powell endorsement didn't change minds per se, but cancelled the effects of the McCain smears.
Posted by Anonny at October 21, 2008 10:19 AMSure it was.
I'll have to admit, I actually am buying the explanation. Sen. "Scattershot" McCain's campaign is being run so poorly with little attention to detail.
I'm sure they are dumping just about every mail list intor their database without any vetting and mailing solicitations en masse.
Even worse than directly soliciting a contribution with intent, it shows just what a bunch of ass-clowns they really are.

I don't know who my husband is voting for (but not for lack of asking--I think he's just not sure yet.)
In 2004 and again this cycle, I've had to stop talking to him about it because it bothers me so much that he could see things so differently. We're both pretty moderate and in 2004 when Obama spoke at the convention, he was very impressed. Even said "if that guy runs for president, I'll vote for him." I keep reminding him of that. I'm not sure what his issue is. He says he doesn't like some of Obama's policies, but I'm not so sure he likes McCain's any better. If I try to have a real conversation about it, I get really upset--I take it personally that the person I love and respect the most might not agree with me on something so important. Plus I have a hard time with the idea that the person I love and respect the most can be such a freakin' idiot! So I just try to avoid the subject.
Posted by CG at October 21, 2008 10:27 AMI think it is inexcusable for McCain to send a campaign contribution form to Osama Bin Laden, and not tell the US army where he lives.

Okay. TRY it. And I hope you sick fucks meet the cub's mother next time, mid-kidnapping. Let Nature sort itself out in that case.
But still, why cubs? Is it a Chicago thing?
