Posted by Obama at October 30, 2008 02:44 AMJohn McCain just can't catch a break. News of the day:
1) Economy shrunk in 3rd quarter
2) ExxonMobil Posts Biggest Quarterly US Profit In History
McCain has never denied that his tax plan calls for billions in tax breaks for ExxonMobile. Obama has never stopped hammering this point home.
Posted by Anonny at October 30, 2008 06:24 AMI thought he was on Rachel Maddow tonight (Thurs) - She said last night she was "on her way to FL to do the interview"?
Posted by KJS at October 30, 2008 06:27 AMKJS: By "tonight" Mary meant Wednesday night. Yes, Obama is on Maddow Thursday night.
I'd noticed that Obama was letting McCain get an inbalanced number of free TV interviews in October. Apparently he's waited until the last 5-6 days to start his own TV interview tour. This makes sense, as I think McCain is suffering from the oversaturation problem. That is, if you are say, standing in a hotel lobby and see McCain talking on a morning show your reaction is "oh, him again". But an Obama appearance is more unique, and more likely to get you to watch.
Anecdotal, to be sure, but a fun read:
"The Ad" - Report from a Philly Bar
Also, Garry Trudeau is doing his best work since his 1981 series on Reagan in the white house:
Posted by Anonny at October 30, 2008 06:49 AMOn the news on NPR this morning, they covered McCain on the trail joking: someone I guess said they were still undecided (didn't catch that part) and McCain said (paraphrasing, but almost word for word as i remember it) "we have surveillance cameras in the voting booths, heh heh, so if you don't vote right, you might want to get someone else to start your car tomorrow, heh heh."
How is that funny? The surveillance thing was creepy enough after what Bush has done, but be careful starting your car?? His sense of humor is seriously whacked.
Posted by CG at October 30, 2008 07:21 AMWaiting anxiously for today's polls--I count on them being posted here. Watching FOX, the anchor was almost giddy with a teaser about poll results that are "looking good." Fair and balanced for ya. The Quinnipiac guy was on and he said Obama has dropped from up 14 to only up 9 in Ohio. Still pretty good, but a big drop. Dropped a couple in FL (from 4 to 2?) and only dropped 1 in PA--from up 13 to up 12. When it became clear he wasn't all goo-goo about how great this was for McCain, the anchor cut him off and went on to other stories. I hope Obama gets a bump in Ohio from the ad last night. And in FL.

I put a comment on them in the "Daily Polling Report 10/29" thread below. Brief summary: national trackers moving back to Obama, state polls are flat on aggregate.
Some right wingers are aflutter over a Mason-Dixon poll of PA showing Obama's lead is only +4. This sounds good until you realize that M-D's last poll showed a lead of +2, so the trend is actually pro-Obama, and the poll itself is an outlier.
We are fortunately to have so many state polls at this point in the election, and we do need to focus on the states at this point because national trends won't necessarily be represented in swing states.
However, state polls have their own unique problems. First, they are usually smaller samples (400-500 is typical) so have a higher MOE 4.5-5% is typical), and they are typically taken a week apart. This means that is really hard to recognize trends. A 4 point movement in terms of voter attitude in one week would be a huge trend, but a 4 point movement in the state poll from week to week could easily be due to random noise. The best you can do is aggregate the polls together, as pollster and fivethirtyeight do, and look for trends.
Which is why crowing or crying over a single state poll result is silly.
Posted by Anonny at October 30, 2008 10:37 AMOk, I am really getting upset with some of these attacks coming from Palin/McCain rallies...
Here is one which really does not even make sense to "a Third Grader" -- let alone to American educated voter … (I mean should be educated voter)….
Here is the attack….
Obama is not even American…
- He (Obama) hasn't come clean about his birth certificate or the country of his birth. While the speakers said they did not want to put on their "tin foil hat" and speculate about the nation of Obama's birth, one said he would give only "even money" that Obama was born in the United States.
Ok, not sure what uneducated fool came up with this one, but here are the facts…
You are a citizen by birth, if you were born in a state or territory of the United States, or you were born to a U.S. citizen, parent regardless of location of Birth.
So MR. (MS) educated voter – unless you plan to prove that Obama’s Mother was not an US Citizen …. It matters not where Obama was actually born … one of his parents was a US Citizen … therefore he is a citizen……..

Black "comedians" Paul Mooney and Tracy Morgan did NOT help Obama on the mindless talk shows last night. They came across as obnoxious and gloating.
Too soon to spike the ball in the endzone, assclowns. Reign it in, please. White voters don't need to hear about OJ's verdict celebration being nothing compared to the upcoming Obama victory party.
So what would be an appropiate birthday gift for Andrea Mitchell who turned 62 today? She married Alan Greenspan in 1997 when he was in his prime at the age of 71. Back then he must have looked as young and vibrant as McCain does today.

I dunno, let's give it a try and find out! What shows were those guys on, TIKI? I agree, it's kinda dumb to jump the gun, but you can't blame people for getting really excited. Still, it feeds right into the fookin' wingnuts' storyline, doesn't it? One more week, guys, then we can run out in the street and flip over cop cars. Being a weakling, I'm gonna flip over a bicycle cop's vehicle.
Posted by iamcoyote at October 30, 2008 12:35 PMuRcoyote! ...Mooney was on Letterman; Morgan on Conan.
We love our police in Tempe, but if Obama wins I may just knock the stuff off of the counter of a Motor Vehicle worker after the obligatory 2 hour wait to get to it.
Posted by TIKI AL at October 30, 2008 01:43 PMGosh, TIKI, don't go overboard, now.
Posted by iamcoyote at October 30, 2008 02:01 PMBeing a weakling, I'm gonna flip over a bicycle cop's vehicle.
That would require going somewhere where there are cops on bikes. Usually street fairs. Those won't happen again til next summer so you have some time to lift weights.
All right! 'Course the excitement will have died down by then, so I'll have to explain myself.

Of all the negative stuff emminating from the McCain camp now, none of that concerns me as much as this.
One thing Rove did right was to tell the religous crazies to be quiet and out of sight during the election.
I hope the Obama camp saw that and is putting the lid on it.
Posted by Anonny at October 30, 2008 02:40 PMAnonny: At least someone sanitized the Tracy Morgan bit on the net. I also hope someone talks to these guys.
Anjha: Although we have bike cops 365 D.A.Y., I'm still opting for the DMV for my mini-riot/celebration.
