Well said.
Posted by kleven-stein at October 30, 2008 05:39 AMYesterday McShit started using the term "neo-nazi" in his latest Obama-hating McCarthyite smear involving a palestinian-American professor that Obama met at the U of Chic. The open race hated (for blacks and Arabs) McCain is using is beyond appalling, and the MSM just chugs along, letting McTurd drag the entire "process" into the right wing sewer. Just like always, as para reminds us.
When these smears are not explained and ridiculed, the low info fool voter then makes his decision based on the smear. That appears to be happening, even as everyone comforts themselves with the idea that the lead is too big and there's no moree time. Bullshit.
Five days of unanswered smears will have a big effect on the uninformed people who decide these elections, especially when 92% of Repubs are right back at the turd trough, happily voting for Lady Moosebreath. Repubs are "unhappy" with the party---right, except the polls don't seem to show that.
Posted by euzoius at October 30, 2008 06:07 AMWell, in the early sixties I met a man who was part of the Cosa Nostra, so does that mean I am a member of the Mafia?
Posted by Judith at October 30, 2008 06:20 AMno Judith, it means you make poor choices, you are just not ready to lead.

MSNBC pointed out this same Palestinian-American professor was the recipient of over 500 thousand dollars from the McCain chaired trust fund from the late 90’s. In other words, Mr. McCain has even “closer ties” with this Professor – yet, he still feels he can attack Obama on it… if fact he wants the “video tape” . Once again, it is simply ugly half-truths being spouted…..
I want this election to be over with SO BAD!
Paradox, thanks for reminding us of how despicably Al Gore was treated in 2000. Just think if he'd been allowed to win...no war, electric cars, reduced pollution, etc.
We must all be prepared to RELENTLESSLY push back against the traditional media when they start crucifying Obama if he is elected president. We've got to be ready with e-mail, snail mail, telephone calls, blogs, YouTube, everything. We must not let a President Obama be Gored. The traditional media are dying anyway--that's what they get for lying.
Posted by at October 30, 2008 07:02 AMWhat a contrast.
Obama: Here's what I'll do for you, America.
McCain: My opponent is a socialist-terrorist-muslim-radicalblackchristian-antisemite-antichrist-nigger-lucifer.
Posted by Anonny at October 30, 2008 08:02 AMAnonny, you're exactly right. And I think that Obama's decision in the beginning to stifle the 527s and the second tier that Steve has been ranting about made it possible to solidify that impression around the country. If the 527s had been attacking McCain with the kitchen sink, it would have undermined Obama's theme, I believe. It was a big risk, back then, but now it looks like the idea has worked big time. While McCain's running around saying "country first," Obama walked the walk by keeping the dirt level down from his side. That made McCain's dirty tricks seem even dirtier in comparison. Once that narrative was established and the impression was made, only then did Obama let loose the hounds, who, again, in comparison, didn't seem nearly as crazyass as McCain/Palin. Good show, I thought.
Also, Anonny, by your comment in the last open thread, it sounds like you might be willing to join in? Should we be emailing Steve?

I totally agree. You'll also note that the Democratic 527s have generally echoed the tight focus of the Obama campaign -- hitting issues that really matter to swing voters. One talks about Palin's wolf and polar bear treatment (in separate ads). Another talks about Palin's belief in banning abortion for rape victims. The union ads focus on health care and outsourcing. While there are not supposed to be any direct links between the campaigns and the 527s, I will bet that some general advice on approach has been passed on.

Thanks again. I'd be willing to talk to Steve if he is interested. It's his blog, any participants should fit his vision.
Posted by Anonny at October 30, 2008 09:31 AMAnonny - your selection of names tagged on to Obama reminds me that a while ago I tipped my toe in an Australian forum where, rather to my surprise, there were several really right-wing McCain supporters. I achieved the status of being called a mad pinko lefty AND a Nazi. The comical thing is, it was by the same person!

Great! Whatever happens, it's nice to read your contributions here. Thanks.

I see that all the time on the wingnut sites. I always get the impression these people don't really know what the words they fling mean, they just know that the words are bad somehow and they hope the words will stick and hurt. It's hilarious to watch.

Ha. That happens a lot with the extremists on the right. Even more now that Jonah Goldberg's Liberal Facism book came out.
The root of the problem is their "us vs. them" world view, also known as "you're either with us or against us", a phrase Bush used in a post-9/11 speech.
Once you think that way, you then lump all of "them" into one big group and assume they are all working against you (yes, paranoia is a key attribute of the extreme right).
Only in this way can you explain the right wing beliefs that, for example, American feminists are in league with bin Laden.

Yikes! Sisters, we've been found out! Run!

It was only a matter of time.
I agree on all of the above re: Obama's campaign and the 527s.
I think that Obama's campaign will be studied for years in the future about the genius and the tightness of it. It was not only the right time...people have been so beat up by the absurdity of the Right Wing Republican philosophy that they are open to having a black man as a president.
I am not feeling like we have it in the bag. I am not giving up or slowing down (not that I am really doing much at this point, between doctor's appointments) - I realize that we cannot be complacent but I do believe that we will win.
I want to win in an incredibly large percentage. This will give Obama a larger mandate and more power to get it done without having to fight the fucking hunting of the president like Clinton did.
Some Right Wing Hack was on MSNBC the other day saying what they will do when Obama is president and he said "blah, blah, blahtity blah and we will be opposing everything Obama does."
I thought "everything?!?!"
So, they are lined up right now to fight everything Obama does just because he is a Democrat...no matter if they agree with what he is doing or if it is the best thing for the country, they will fight it just because that is what they do. Opposition. Period.
We do have to be ready to allow the Dems to govern. Keep these Rabid Right Wingers down.
Posted by Anjha at October 30, 2008 10:38 AMWell, in the early sixties I met a man who was part of the Cosa Nostra, so does that mean I am a member of the Mafia?
It depends on your relationship with the guy.
However, I suspect it wasn't much because you are not swimming in diamond jewelry or out at the pool at the club...instead you spend your time posting on liberal blogs. (Which, I hear, that we only have time to do because Joe the Plumber goes to work and pays for everything...)
Posted by Anjha at October 30, 2008 10:42 AMAnjha, I'm thinking Atrios has always been right - the 'pukes go against anything Dems bring up, not because they believe one way or the other, but because it pisses liberals off. That's the extent of their philosophy. In other words, they're proud to be ignorant assholes who can't win a regular argument 'cos they're too dumb, so they throw crap around to muddy the waters and piss off people who care. You see it in the troll shit, you see it in the Rove shit, and you see it in McCain's entire campaign. Sad, sad people, aren't they?
Posted by iamcoyote at October 30, 2008 10:48 AMSad, sad people, aren't they?
They do not give a shit about our country. They do not even care about their own "brand."
The only thing that they care about is destroying Liberals and destroying the fabulous changes brought about by FDR. They are singularly focused, obsessed I would say, about rolling back the FDR improvements in our country.
They are living 60 years in the past, nursing old resentments and making all of us pay for their anger.
They are disgusting little fucks. Miserable useless creatures. Really they are parasites on the rest of the country, sucking us dry of all that is good and worthwhile.
