paradox - glad to hear that you survived the last couple of days. Sorry to hear about the small minds in your state.
Posted by angryman at November 5, 2008 09:05 AMCA is fucked up. What a schizo state.
Posted by The Creator at November 5, 2008 09:10 AMyeah, here in Maryland I was joyful last night but furious this morning after reading that Prop Hate won
all is not lost, the CA Supreme Court could still rule that this change to the CA Constitution had to go thru the legislature and not be passed thru a proposition
Posted by Gay Veteran at November 5, 2008 09:29 AMObama won. The sun came up. We made it through yet another day.
I give the President-elect his due and the benefit of the doubt----although he did pick Rahm Emanual as chief of staff....
Posted by gtash at November 5, 2008 09:36 AM"for we have had a disaster of bigotry here in California"
I feel you Paradox, Act 1 (Arkansas Unmarried Couple Adoption Ban) passed in Arkansas. I'll take a small measure of solace in that Act 1 passed with over 40% voting against it.
Posted by Jolly Sapper at November 5, 2008 09:57 AMYeah, I hear you...I'm in CA too and cannot believe that prop 8 passed!
On Obama, he better strike quickly while he's on fire.
We need to be carfeful here too, he took a lot of money from corporations, Wall Street, etc....they're gonna want a return on their investment so while we are rejoicing, let's keep our heads on straight.
I'm from CA and voted no on Prop 8. It would suck if it goes down in defeat (the ballots aren't in yet, so I'm not going to assume anything). My only consolation would be that Prop 4, a backdoor attempt to curtail abortion, has failed.

You have a wonderful day.
Posted by snark at November 5, 2008 10:51 AM"Refusing to do any of the work to build up third party infrastructure nationally, Ralph Nader has a bit of sour grapes whine, and calls Obama an 'Uncle Tom'.
"It's really bad when Fox News is classier than a national figure like Ralph Nader."
That's right, Uncle Tom. Check out the link.
What is an Uncle Tom? It's someone who plays up to a racial/social stereotype in order to ingratiate himself with a dominant group. There's certainly been some of that in the election campaign, but it wasn't Obama who was doing it. Take a bow, Sarah. The group to whom she was pandering turned out not to be the dominant one after all, not nationally. That's why her lot lost.
I just heard someone saying on the BBC that the voters who made the difference were young, urban and decently educated. What you're going to get now from the backwoods caricature Repubs is not racial resentment but class resentment.
As for Nader, what the hell does he think Obama ought to have done on the electioneering trail? Walk on a platform and give a Black Power salute?
Politics has been called the art of the possible, and nothing is possible unless and until you get elected.
We have to give Nader his due. However, of late he is as irrelevant as McSame. Nader go the fuck away you are pissing in our parade.
