Microsoft is about money, not ideas.
Posted by dj moonbat at November 8, 2008 03:38 PMThe WA 8th district covers the rural areas of King and Pierce counties. Pierce county is more conservative than King and this district covers the most conservative parts of both. Microsoft is on the NW boundary of the 8th, many employees (if not the majority) would live outside the 8th.
Posted by uptown at November 8, 2008 03:50 PMWA-8 is a tough district for a Dem to win. Burner has done a great job, but it really comes down to the fact she has no political or other reputation in this district, except for her 2 tries against the Republican incumbant.
Posted by uptown at November 8, 2008 03:59 PMApple users would've elected her.
She was torpedoed by that c@#t, Emily Heffter, at the Seattle Times for a lie that wasn't a lie.
Posted by DL at November 8, 2008 04:00 PMGood thing is that she can try again in two years, and will succeed then.
In the next two years Republicans will shift further to the right, welcoming people like Gingrich back into the fold. That will help candidates like Burner.
Posted by Anonny at November 8, 2008 04:45 PMIf the Eighth District only consisted of the area around Microsoft, Darcy would have won last time.
Yeah, that one was disappointing. Next time, baby! Go Al Franken!
Posted by iamcoyote at November 9, 2008 07:28 AMI personally like Darcy and would have liked to be represented by her. Also, it is all too true that the Seattle Times and other local media did her no favors.
However ...
As a resident of far south King Co. (almost Pierce), she was a tough sell in this neck of the woods. And, we didn't see her much in the south part of the district.
I have to say it seems she did not learn the lesson of 2 years ago when she got killed down here. And it happened again this year.
No doubt this district is winnable with the right campaign and, it must be said, the right candidate. The district voted strongly for Obama and slightly for our Dem. governor. It is majority Dem in the state house and senate.
Best wishes to Darcy and her family. But let's try something else next time.
Darcy should not have given her opponents anywhere to go. Her sloppiness created a big opening for Dave Reichert. She can blame herself for saying she had a "degree in economics from (drumroll, please) Harvard."
