I second what Mary said. In a world that appeared to have gone crazy, TLC was a touchstone for sanity.

Welcome Deacon.. I've got no idea if I will like your writing, but that's an outstanding name.

A Steely Dan fan, Deacon Blues?

Posted by iamcoyote at November 11, 2008 05:21 AM

Deacon Blues is a track off Aja from the 70's, an epic release of greatness.

Thanks to all our fellow citizens who are veterans!

Enjoy the day.

Lib'rul blogs were a form of resistence movement under the Bush Regime. A place where actual news stories could be resurrected and discussed and not buried. A place where MSM-Bush adoration was not the norm.

Bush hit an 88% approval rating at one point after 9/11. Even in blue cities those of us who rejected this usurper from day one and immediately saw his anti-democratic intentions from the "election" were isolated and disconnected.

It helped me greatly to read the posts and comments here over the past 5 years. Plus, the blogs motivated many people to more active resistance and opposition to Bushism. The question for the blogs now is whether they were a necessity born of Cheneyism or whether they will continue in vitality now that a non-criminal, non-authoritarian president has been elected.

At least one function that will continue to be be desperately needed is the watchdogging of the corporate right-leaning MSM. They are now the biggest danger to the future of the country, as the Repubs were almost certainly saved from total destruction in this election by the Fox News propaganda operation. The lying poison and Repub friendly spin they spread 24/7 can easily doom any hope of progress.

Anyway, my point is now that Bush resistance is ending as the principal focus of blogging, perhaps some other "main focus" needs to be considered.

So, it appears that the Today Show is going to start the remaking of the Palin image, turning her into a victim that deserves our compassion. Matt, your such a little ass kisser.

Posted by Judith at November 11, 2008 06:34 AM

Palin is a psychotic egomaniacal grifter, who can't do anything but abuse whatever power she is foolishly entrusted with. A preening rat stealing the eggs of the lizard-brains.

And we know that the MSM's purpose is not informing the citizenry of the facts, let alone the truth.

Exactly right. I cannot count the times that a story broke on the Liberal blogs first, only to have the MSM pick it up weeks later (if at all). Finally exposing some truth. MSNBC was the first to see their value.

My wife, living vicariously through me on the blogs, would love to have her "blog update" at the end of a hard workday.

Paradox, Thank you for your service. As well to all other Veterans.
Tempus, where the hell are you?

Deacon Blues welcome.
Aja was a great Steely Dan album.
Remember listening to it in my one bedroom apt. in Campbell, CA. The days when bricks and a 6 ft section of 1" x 12" pine made your bookshelfs and an old empty spool of electrical wire made your coffee table.

There are many here who have served our Country. I'm sure I speak for most everyone here in saying we honor and salute you all.

Just a Simple Soldier

He was getting old and paunchy and his hair was falling fast, and he sat around the Legion telling stories of the past.

He talked of a war that he had fought and the deeds that he had done in his exploits with his buddies; they were heroes, every one.

And tho sometimes to his neighbors, his tales became a joke, All his buddies listened, for they knew where of he spoke.

But we'll hear his tales no longer, for old Bob has passed away and the worlds a little poorer, for a soldier died today.

No he wont be mourned by many, just his children and his wife, for he lived an ordinary very quiet sort of life. He held a job and raised a family, quietly going on his way; And the world won't note his passing; tho a soldier died today.

When politicians leave this earth, their bodies lie in state, while thousands note their passing and proclaim that they were great. Papers tell of their life stories from the time that they were young, but the passing of a soldier goes unnoticed, and unsung.

Is the greatest contribution to the welfare of our land some man who breaks his promise and cons his fellow man? Or the ordinary fellow who in times of war and strife, goes off to serve his Country and offers up his life?

The politicians stipend and the style in which he lives are sometimes disproportionate to the services he gives. While the ordinary soldier, who offered up his all, is paid off with a medal, and perhaps a pension small.

Its so easy to forget them, for it was so long ago That our Bobs and Jims and Johnnys went to battle, but we know It was not the politicians, with their compromise and ploys, who won for us the freedom that our country now enjoys.

Should you find yourself in danger with your enemies at hand, would you really want some man with his ever-waffling stand? Or would you want a soldier who has sworn to defend His home, his kin, and country, and would fight until the end?

He was just a common soldier and his ranks are growing thin but his presence should remind us, we may need his like again.

For when countries are in conflict, then we find the soldiers part is to clean up all the troubles that the politicians start. If we cannot do him honor while he's here to hear the praise, then at least lets give him homage at the ending of his days.

Perhaps a simple headline in the paper that might say:

OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING, FOR A SOLDIER DIED TODAY.

7 of 6, your right, where is Tempus and Pvt. Keepout?

Your comment was denied for questionable content.

What's up with this?

Posted by Judith at November 11, 2008 07:45 AM

Judith, did you write the poem?

Posted by Anjha at November 11, 2008 07:49 AM

and an old empty spool of electrical wire made your coffee table.

Ha! I recently saw one on the side of the road, and had to keep myself from stopping to pick it up. We had several of them back in the day! Steely Dan got me thru boot camp many years ago, SoS - funny how certain songs bring back forgotten images, huh?

Posted by iamcoyote at November 11, 2008 07:57 AM

If anyone missed Keith Olbermann's comment on Prop 8 and the Moron Church check it out. Really moving.

...funny how certain songs bring back forgotten images, huh?

No doubt coyote. Sometimes, I'll hear a song and think back to the days I heard the live version at Winterland Arena in SF.

Posted by Seven of Six at November 11, 2008 08:15 AM

Coyote, Funny I mentioned Winterland... I saw a commercial the other day... all these theatrical characters are in a car and this one in the back starts into "Greensleeves"... that's what was played at the end of every concert at Winterland.

Posted by Seven of Six at November 11, 2008 08:20 AM

As much as I hate commercials, SoS, I have to say that the Snickers ones are pretty funny. I love the Snickers song, and the one where Robin Hood comes in and says "The feast is mine!" The tone of voice cracks me up each time.

On a more sober note, for your Vet's Day outrage: Sexually Assaulted Military Women Forced to Pay for Rape Kits Read it and weep, not only for the headline, but for the statistics in the story.

Posted by iamcoyote at November 11, 2008 08:32 AM

On a more sober note, for your Vet's Day outrage:

For far too long all our soldiers have been mistreated by this administration. The crimes must stop. The promises must be kept.

Posted by Seven of Six at November 11, 2008 09:00 AM

Finally, we can celebrate our return to sanity. Congratulations to all of us!

Not to rain on the parade but we have much work to do unwinding the criminality of the past eight years, Bush Bombs are Buried across the country.

Posted by Goyo at November 11, 2008 09:07 AM

Anjha, no. I was trying to link the poem and leave an additional poem, and I got the "Your comment was denied for questionable content." I don't know what's wrong, as 'hell' is the only objectionable word in it.

Posted by Judith at November 11, 2008 09:44 AM

Judith, you're not being blocked, I've had that happen to me a lot. Sometimes when there are too many links in a post, and sometimes certain links. I don't know why, but it doesn't happen all the time. Try just putting the url in the comment instead of linking, you might get around whatever's blocking!

"Marriage is a civil contract. You might as well make a law to say how many children a man shall have, as to make a law to say how many wives he shall have. It would be as sensible to make a law to say how many horses or oxen he shall possess, or how many cows his wife shall milk." ...Brigham Young

Brigham didn't think much of marriage laws. I hope they have plenty of lightning rods on the Tabernacle, they're gonna need 'em.

Palin twice referred to in a very demeaning manner bloggers who are "in their pajamas blogging from their mother's basement" on Greta Van Suckass last night.

Wow! She really IS stupid! My mother is dead and only rich republicans have basements in Arizona.

"Palin twice referred to in a very demeaning manner bloggers who are "in their pajamas blogging from their mother's basement" on Greta Van Suckass last night."

Oh McOld told her that, and she bought it hook, line and sinker.

Posted by Judith at November 11, 2008 12:04 PM

As we all know, Palin decided to use her children as props in her bid for the Vice-Presidency. On Today Show, Matt asked the little one if she had missed much school (which I kept wondereing why she wasn't in school like the Obama girls). Palin's little girl said she had missed a lot of school, and it was hard to catch up. Good parenting?

Posted by Judith at November 11, 2008 12:27 PM

Do you think Palin knows she wouldn't have actually gotten to live in the White House as the VP?

I bet she doesn't.

Posted by snark at November 11, 2008 12:33 PM

TIKI, from what I understand, Brigham Young said that after his wife caught him...ahem...milking a neighbor's cow. Too chicken to tell her the truth, that he liked fucking around, he started pretending he had a revelation from "god" that men should fuck around as much as possible, so the women could spew out more little girls to boink. Pervert. Just cos Goody McNeighborswife made you see god one night, doesn't make it a religious experience worthy of codifying in a fake bible!

Posted by iamcoyote at November 11, 2008 12:36 PM

Thats funny, coyote, I "knew" alot of Playboy Bunnys from the Lake Geneva club, and the more I got to "know", the more revelations I would have which told me to do everything in my power to "know" even more bunnys!

Duh, are I a Mormon and didn't realise it 'till now? And if so, where do I send the 10%?

Posted by TIKI AL at November 11, 2008 01:06 PM

Thank You and Good Veteran's Day to all of you.

Thanks, Judith, I liked the format of the poem...all those internal rhymes and such.

OK, I cannot let this one go.

This pic was linked in an ADN article on March 9, 2008.

Look

First of all, Bristol does not at all look happy and that certainly does look like a first-time, teenager baby bump.

It is more common for a first time younger person to have a baby early than a practiced multiple birth older woman.

It is not common for someone to get smaller after consecutive pregnancies...I have seen a pic of Palin, one of her earlier births and she was enormous. She would not then have pregnancies where she did not get very big later on. Things, like uteruses, stretch out.

I cannot imagine an OB-GYN anywhere in the world who would authorize someone with a supposed high risk pregnancy and high risk birth to travel so late in a pregnancy and then offer permission for that woman to get on an airplane after they had started leaking amniotic fluid - as she is reported to have done.

Then, when she flew into Anchorage, after supposedly being in labor all of those friggin hours - drove, on isolated Alaskan highways another hour or more to a small little hospital in the middle of nowhere where there was not even an OB on staff...passing a large hospital in Anchorage with full medical staff.

I have let it go repeatedly, but I was looking at something and there was this picture again and I just do not buy her bullshit story.

Not to mention that she was horribly fucking abusive to her kids, trotting them out like trophies. Especially Piper, that poor little girl had to listen to the vile crap that came out of Palin's mouth at all of those rallies and somehow has to reconcile that in a world where Barack Obama (scary Obama) is not president and the terrists are out to get her.

I am so disgusted by this woman.

OK. Rant over.

Dammit Coyote. You need to write a book.

Proves my point, dunnit?

Well, the kid gets it all the time anyhow, goin' to that backwoods, witch burnin' church they have there, also. But come on, that kid was the only Palin I liked, because Piper didn't care about politics, she got to go to all these events and get attention, and new clothes. All she had to do was lug around that li'l photo op, baby Floursack. Piper'll prolly grow up to be like her mom, 'cos mom is teaching her how to get everything she wants by wheedling, whining, and barreling on in uninvited. For now, though, I thought she was cute, and dang lucky to get a US tour.

My favorite part of the interview: "I'm not partisan at all." Palin
