"It will forever be a stain upon my lifetime and the honor of the United States that in a time of war everyday citizens were asked to join the sacrifice by going shopping."
I'll drink to that.
Posted by Jolly Sapper at November 11, 2008 09:12 AMWhy am I being blocked?
Posted by Judith at November 11, 2008 09:56 AMJudith, I don't think it's you being blocked, it's prolly the link. Try to just put the url in the comment, see if that'll work. It happens to me all the time, though I don't know why other than too many links in one comment.
Posted by iamcoyote at November 11, 2008 10:08 AMDidn't the wife of that "socialist" with the "skinny legs" and "scrawny arms" who "pals around with terrorists" say she was going to work to improve the lives of military families?
I would like to be a White House mouse in the wall when the foul mouthed worminator begs President Obama for a California bailout.
You peeps in Cali should let him know what an immature ass he made of himself.
Posted by TIKI AL at November 11, 2008 10:56 AMparadox - You are welcome and thank you for your service.
"citizens were asked to join the sacrifice by going shopping."
This is something that has always stuck in my craw about Bush. He could have done something good for our society because he has a 100 percent captive audience. He chose instead to squander all the goodwill and take advantage of Americans through fear mongering and removal of rights.
Now this bastard is talking out of both sides of his face as it relates to our vets. He is talking loud and doing absolutely nothing. I just want this bastard to go now!
Posted by at November 11, 2008 11:06 AMTIKI, I'm sure that wuss will send his wife. And I sure hope Michele O gets involved in military families' concerns. Someone should at least. One year, when my ex was doing recruiting, they tried like hell to discourage married people, or people with children to enlist. Didn't work. Ah, the good old days when people wanted to enlist.
Posted by iamcoyote at November 11, 2008 11:48 AMThank you, past and present members of the Navy, Army, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, reserves of all forces, the National Guard, and your families. We are eternally grateful for your service and will be there in the future for you. Peace be with you upon your journey.
Amen.

FINAL INSPECTION
The soldier stood and faced God
Which must always come to pass
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as brightly as his brass.
Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
No, Lord, I guess I aint
Because those of us who carry guns
Cant always be a saint.
Ive had to work most Sundays
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes Ive been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny
That wasnt mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep,
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
Ive wept unmanly tears.
I know I dont deserve a place
Among the people here,
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.
If youve a place for me here, Lord,
It neednt be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But if you dont, Ill understand.
There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God,
Step forward now, you soldier,
Youve borne your burdens well,
Walk peacefully on Heavens streets,
Youve done your time in Hell.

Posted by Judith at November 11, 2008 12:10 PMWrong link. Everytime I type in the link, I get the questionable content notice. Maybe 'they' don't want you to read what veterans have to say.
Posted by Judith at November 11, 2008 12:14 PMWho knows what blocks the addresses, Judith, but it sure does make one suspicious, doesn't it? Either way, it's the sentiment that counts. Thanks for trying! I'll try googling the dang thing...
Posted by iamcoyote at November 11, 2008 12:25 PMThat's Iamcoyote. I appreciate it.
Posted by Judith at November 11, 2008 02:12 PMor Thanks Iamcoyote.
Posted by Judith at November 11, 2008 02:13 PMFolks, there are certain links that the administrator has prohibited from this site. It has nothing to do with specific topics. Judith, you are probably not doing anything wrong. The extension is the problem to the best of my figuring.
Isn't it sad that the NYTimes has nothing about Veteran's Day on the front page and The Washington Post relegated any mention to section B? The two most prominent papers or record dropped the ball.
Posted by peter at November 11, 2008 03:47 PMWhy cut defense spending only 30%? I've read that 70% of defense spending is for other counties, 20% for nuclear weapons and 10% for the defense of the continental US.
Also, defense spending should include (on top of the official DoD budget) the Dept. of Energy, NSA, CIA, Veterans Affairs, part of the Depts. of Education and State as well as a pro-rated share of our national debt. This would more than double the official cost of defense spending.
Posted by skeptic at November 11, 2008 06:10 PMPeter - Veterans Day should be reverted back to Armistice Day. Take your neocon wet dreams elsewhere.

Liar. But we knew that already. You're still here.
