Y'know... Al Gore would be useful in the Obama administration in so many ways. Of course, everyone think environment and that means head of the EPA. That's good. Perhaps he would do well as top man at the FCC too because of his REAL grasp of technology (if anyone passes that neocon joke about the invention of the internet, I'll figuratively firebomb you).
But in long black robes? I'm not sure he'd want that but moreover, I think there's someone better qualified myself: Hillary Clinton.
I think she's a natural for the top bench though conservatives would pitch a schist fit I think Obama could get her in if someone retires (Please let it be the Chief Justice; we so much see him GONE - or second best, Clarence Thomas - that would work well because of his history).
What does everyone think?
Posted by gmknobl at November 12, 2008 06:18 AMForget it. Al Gore is completely hooked into private life. He ain't going public no more.
Posted by snark at November 12, 2008 06:54 AMI agree with Snark. Hillary would sure make a couple of heads explode on the SCOTUS.
Posted by Judith at November 12, 2008 07:15 AMparadox, you do know that that's not our Mary in the comments, don't you? That's the scourge of lefty blogs, pumaMary. (sounds like Fruma Sarah, heh) Who cares what she says?
Posted by iamcoyote at November 12, 2008 07:24 AMHillary would be a shrewd choice for the supremes. After all, if Obama's next four years are a disaster she would be the biggest threat in replacing him as the nominee in 2012. By "locking" her away on the court for the rest of her life he can make sure she will not run against him.
Posted by manapp99 at November 12, 2008 07:57 AMIamcoyote is right Paradox, who cares what faux Mary says.
Don't beat yourself up. I know it's easy sometimes, but in reality, you have said nothing that should make you feel such negativity about yourself. Now saying "it's obvious your husband didn't marry you for your looks," (which of course I didn't mean) is something to be horrified about.

Thank you, paradox, for the admonition (too gentle) on the execreble US convention of invoking 'czars.' The depths to which Russian society had sunk in 1916, in a 300 year death spiral, are simply unimaginable today, all at the hands of the 300 year tsarist autocracy. There was nothing, absolutely nothing, positive about it.

But seriously, you're doing just fine and you don't owe anyone anything more than you can do. You are entitled to your opinions and you have to understand the beauty and maturity of most folks here is that it's not a personal attack on you when they voice disagreement. Honest. Do we sometimes get heated at times...surrrreee...but I think it's the anonymity of the blog that allows it to happen.
Listen, if we all agreed lockstep with everyone here it'd be kinda boring. Part of the reason I like this blog is that often times people on the same side will disagree and get po'd at a comment or two (as oppposed to the typical contrarian resident troll drivel) and they won't get banned out of oblivion by the groupthink on that given day. The beauty here is that often you'll find that in a post or two later they'll be in agreement cheering on each other as if nothing ever happened. I know at times we all have issues going on outside of the blog that may impact our temperment here on any given day...I'm guilty of it myself.
Just take a deep breath and relax...please don't take it too personal..you're doing fine and I'm always back here everyday several times even if I don't leave a comment or the one I leave is kind of nasty.
Try to enjoy it...don't be so hard on yourself.
Posted by emal at November 12, 2008 02:24 PMAnd don't take this the wrong way as I was just wondering looking at the writers on the left hand side of the page, but do you or anyone know if eRiposte will be back? Especially now that the election is over. Now there was someone who certainly had their share of stalkers that were pretty nasty.
Posted by emal at November 12, 2008 02:32 PMYeah emal, Eri got lynched during the primaries and they kept it up each and every time he logged a post over the summer.
