Well, she may be a hit with the MSM, but the Govenors aren't exactly happy with her claim to fame. I have one question. Would the media be near as interested if she was ugly/unattractive?
Posted by Judith at November 15, 2008 08:32 AM
Palin is perhaps a better Gov than she is a nurturing mother of her baby. I cringe everytime I watch her body language as she carries her baby and turns him away from her. So far I can't find anything about her that lends credence to a role model that should have one minute of media attention.
Posted by mainsailset at November 15, 2008 08:46 AMHey good to see you mainsailset...anyway I think she's more a tabloid celebrity fascination du jour among the politicos due to her beauty and "unique" background. She's up there with Brittney, Lindsay, and the Hilton's right now. It's clear her 15 minutes should be over at least politically on the national level.. as the majority of people have rejected her in terms of being qualified (she's clearly not) for any serious leadership role in gov't nationally.
Posted by emal at November 15, 2008 08:59 AMYou're kind of out of touch. Sarah is very popular. She didn't lose the election. It was the economy that lost the election for the Republicans. If the stock market hadn't plunged the 6 weeks prior to election day, McCain most likely would have won. McCain-Palin had a lead in the polls when the issue was energy. Only when the stock market collapsed, energy went to the back burner, and bad news was in the headlines everyday did Obama take the lead in the polls.
Since Obama wants to shut down Bush's executive order for offshore drilling, is against more drilling, won't move on nuclear power, and hangs his hat on the fallacy of wind and sunshine, then home energy bills will at least double during his first term. When the world economies heat up again, gasoline will surge back to $4 and most likely much higher.
Obama faces a lot of headwinds. Plus he has to work with a Congress run by a couple of idiots.
Who knows if Sarah Palin will run in 4 years or if some other Republican will emerge. She currently ranks behind Romney and Huckabee in early 2012 polling. But she is very smart and a gifted speaker. She also seems more in touch with everyday people.
Posted by Jack Kemp at November 15, 2008 09:06 AMemal, right back at ya.
You're right, she's way past her pull date. Can't help but think of Jeffrey Dahmler, nice looking guy if that's all you were looking for, unless of course you went over to his house for dinner.
Jack Kemp, there were several factors that led to the Obama lead, and one of them most certainly was the Palin pick.
Posted by Judith at November 15, 2008 09:20 AMGov. Palin has caused the Democrats to become incontinent which tells me she is a real political and personal threat to them.
Posted by onar at November 15, 2008 09:22 AM"She also seems more in touch with everyday people."
Your kidding. Right?
She popular? Only with the far-right-winged religious wacko nuts. Thank God.
Oh onar, incontinent? Please, we're just laughing so hard there are certain side effects. As for the media, I like the comment from the Star Wars.."Who's more the fool, the fool himself or those who follow him?" Pretty much sums up the media and Palin.
Posted by mainsailset at November 15, 2008 09:30 AMGov. Palin has caused the Democrats to become incontinent which tells me she is a real political and personal threat to them.
No, she is just fun to make fun of, after opening herself to public scrutiny. I pray she seeks the Presidency in 2012.
Posted by Judith at November 15, 2008 09:32 AMGov. Palin has caused the Democrats to become incontinent
Ya got me! The last time I saw her on the tv, I was laughing so hard, I wet my pants.
Posted by iamcoyote at November 15, 2008 09:33 AMMainsailset, welcome back. Doesn't everyone carry a four month old baby like a flower sack, which is how old the baby was when McCain announced Palin as his running mate? Being into symbolisms, this spoke volumns.
Posted by Judith at November 15, 2008 09:37 AMThe Palin/Couric interview coupled with McCain's statement about the economy being fundamentally strong began the downhill slide. Then add in the economy and you have a lost election. Of course, there are those like the poster above who need to believe that Palin was good for the ticket. This is of the same mentality that still thinks Bush was a good pResident.
By-the-way, is this Troll Saturday or something? Steve must be giving out free dunce hats.
Posted by Judith at November 15, 2008 09:57 AMOh - we are terrified of a Palin pick. Please don't throw us in that briar patch!
Posted by Marc at November 15, 2008 10:12 AMJudith it does indeed appear to be "troll" saturday. They are attracted by ignorance and dysfunction eg.. Putrid palin
Posted by headxray at November 15, 2008 10:19 AMUm, it's one thing to be popular it's clearly another to be qualified and capable to lead our country. As I said Brittney's popular too....but she's no more qualified to lead this country or be VP than Mrs. Palin. I think the majority of people clearly and easily saw that (it's not rocket scientry). It was seen even among some staunch republicans (David Brooks,W.F. Buckley's son and others-who are warning the party to turn away from selecting synchophantic religious fanatics like her as the face of the party).
Yes, Please don't confuse being popular with the simpleton chump media darlings with people thinking she's qualified to be a leader. But please do go on believing just that and please do run her again in 2012. She may be popular in her home state but not outside of it except among Bush's 19% wingnuttier base and well the typical fawning chumps in the media.
She's there for infotainment value only....she's Bush with lipstick...people saw that....that's why they rejected her nationally.
Posted by emal at November 15, 2008 10:37 AMJudith, Your comment--would the media be giving her as much attention if she was not as physically attractive-- is right on the mark. She has already proven she hasn't much intellectual knowledge of what it takes to be a leader (remind us of anyone).
Posted by Chris at November 15, 2008 11:04 AMLet us not forget the risible claims of "pollster" and Repub water-carrier Frank "Supersize me" Luntz, who publicly stated that there will be "significant movement in the polls" 48hrs after McCain picked Palin. Again, listening to the wrong "focus group" led a load of people into assuming that Palin's reach was beyond "the base" and that she would co-opt a serious amount of HRC Demo voters to the Repub side in the general election. Other such fanciful bloviations in the MSM turned attention away from her patently obvious incompetence and unsuitableness to what degree she will "boost" the chances of the ticket to beat Obama/Biden. Simply put, it's the form-over-substance, celeb fixation that the MSM calls "journalism" today.
Posted by barrisj at November 15, 2008 11:18 AM"She also seems more in touch with everyday people." ...Are you referring to when the witch doctor put "hands on her" in an effort to drive out the broom pilots?
And this "beautiful" description astounds me. She reminds me of an Amazon tranny, only less feminine.
Extending her 15 minutes is less ethical than changing the sell date on a tub of cottage cheese.
Yes Republicans Palen is the most awesome candidate you have ever nominated at any level. If you run her in 2012, you'll have to discard the whole pantheon of Republican presidents. Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Eisenhower, forget them all. Who needs them when you've got Palen. She's the one. Please nominate her in 2012.
Posted by herbal tee at November 15, 2008 12:09 PM"she's Bush with lipstick"
Emal, that's who she meant when she asked what the difference was between a pitbull (Bush) and a soccer mom was. Jeez Emal, thanks for the image of Bush with lipstick on. Do you think Jeffey liked it?
Chris, that is my take on the subject. If Sarah was 50, unattractive and overweight, not one man in the media would give a shit about her now.
Posted by Judith at November 15, 2008 12:12 PMI suspect our renowned media are thinking with the wrong head.
Posted by Judith at November 15, 2008 12:22 PMJudith of course it's all about her $150, 000 image and looks...and that's why the continued hollywood beautiful people fascination from the msm and republicons.
Posted by emal at November 15, 2008 01:11 PMWell, we know one thing. She is the darling of those who listen to the likes of Rush. I hope she just goes away, but something tells me she is way to ambitious to go quietly into the night.
Posted by Judith at November 15, 2008 02:35 PMAnybody here old enough to remember the tv show "Queen for A Day"?
No, it wasn't about gay issues. It was about---well, Cinderella moments. I think this is what all those salt-of-the-earth supporters of Palin imagine her candidacy to be: a rightful shot to be queen for a day---or for four years. Imagine of Shirley Booth as Hazel became President.
Posted by gtash at November 15, 2008 05:49 PMgtash, LOL. Boy, does that bring back memories, Queen for a Day. As a child I loved that show. I think your right. Just the chance to be Vice-President for a Day was enough for all those bored sex starved stepford housewives to jump aboard the Palin Express.
Posted by Judith at November 15, 2008 06:42 PMThanks for the post, Paradox. This needs to be said. As you note, the power of the corporate media overshadows Palin's inability to speak even a single coherent sentence on her own. And that is truly ominous for the future politics of this country. I'm afraid she won't go away, because the right needs a compliant messenger, however laughably inarticulate as a real person.
Posted by baked potato at November 15, 2008 08:35 PMA typical gopper thug, take take take. She's a non-entity and will be gone soon enough. If only her fans would follow her to AK, and leave the rest of the country to the sentient Americans.
And she's unremarkably attractive. I see better every day at or going to and from work.
As for the media, well, or the chattering class media, and the people who decide what stories to report, well, they are the problem, them and Congress, and it's up to us to demand better, or heads.
Posted by Duckman GR at November 15, 2008 08:47 PMReading this fucking mess of a post has subjected me to incredible hellish pain. Big bad Palin has you soiling your intellectual undies (your elities). Back to the basement!

...If you bend over, I will apply some nice soothing turpentine to the problem area.
"Reading this fucking mess of a post has subjected me to incredible hellish pain. Big bad Palin has you soiling your intellectual undies (your elities)."
Evidently in your world, McCain picking an unqualified VP is no big deal. In our world, we "elities" are damn concerned that someone with the intellectual capabilities of a nat would be considered as VP material. Buy hey, to each his own.
Posted by Judith at November 16, 2008 05:54 AMPalin is a MILF and nothing more. That is why the MSM is drooling all over her. Her VP debate performance when she was winking and flirting with the camera was a hit with many Repug males. Who do you think is buying up all the copies of "Nailin Palin"?
I hope that Sarah Palin is the voice of the "new repug movement." Based on her recent interviews, she doesn't know when to shut up.
Posted by angryman at November 16, 2008 06:57 AMThe Republican male is so excited over Palin they are about to piss in their pants. As my Grandmother use to tell me; "Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly is to the bone."
Posted by Judith at November 16, 2008 09:18 AMSarah Palin is an epic fucking fail. Do you know what the governor of AK does? Said governor basically doles out oil revenues. It's essentially a socialist office (ironic, yes?)
If she is indeed the future of the GOP, then that party will cement its minority status.
Fucktards.

Reading your fcuking mess of a comment has caused me to re-analyze why I thought any Republican't ever had anything between their ears except vacuum. Gloating about poop in other people's pants must be the Republican't fetish. Do you wear two wet suits and shove a dildo up your a$$ while engaing in this type of entertainment, as have some of your Republican'ts?
I'd tell you to go back to your mommy's basement, but it sounds like you've never left...
Posted by (: Tom :) at November 17, 2008 10:30 AMSpeaking as an (old) British male, I must agree with those here (surprisingly in a minority) who are not impressed by her looks. At least in medium shot Hillary Clinton is still a damned sight better looking. And tough though Hillary is, when she laughs she at least looks as if she means it.
Astonishing though it may seem, it was widely believed that some of the old guard of British Conservatives got a bit of a kick out of being dominated by Margaret Thatcher. Perhaps they cherished fond memories of being smacked by Nanny. Not sure what's going on in the equivalent Republican minds!
