Comments: Waxman in!

Pelosi not involving herself in defending a sitting Chairperson sent a strong message. Don't buy in to the popular press diminution of Pelosi - very little happens in the House without her approval - tacit or otherwise.

I'm with Josh Marshall on Pelosi's role. She wasn't pulling strings to get Waxman in, but she gave him de-facto support by not standing up for the strict seniority system. Can you believe it? Congressional Democrats did something right!

Not all the news is good on the environmental front. I don't remember the details, but I believe Dubyah is rushing through legislation that will dilute the obligations for industry to bother about endangered species. This did get mentioned in the UK press, but as I say I can't remember the details.Concerning said UK press, I looked in vain through a couple of popular UK newspapers for any mention of Obama's move towards doing something about Kyoto-associated problems. However, there was plenty about a TV celebrity-ballroom-dancing show, which is of course far more important than global warming!

yes yes yes

to me it's probably the best political news since the election itself. i haven't been too happy with the shape up of the obama cabinet either. but this is good news indeed.

While not being any type of fan of Dingell, I'm quite disappointed in this move. Seems a lack of respect and reeks of cronyism. I'm wondering how many Michiganders are proud of their voting Democrat tonight. Just a nother kick in their teeth.

Colin, I've seen this on blogs as well. Now that Rachel Maddow's back, maybe she'll cover it. But for now, the main talking headlice are ignoring Bush altogether, except for noting that the world leaders at the recent conference refused to shake his hand. Funny video, that one. Such an embarrassment.
