That's very true, and contrast that with President-elect Obama's willingness to change his mind even when events remain the same.
The Campaign of Change? With Tom Daschle and Paul Volcker? Cue the Duran Duran, Chachi! It's a Quantum Leap to the 1980's all over again!
During the campaign, Obama promised to raise taxes on the rich even in a sluggish economy. Now in that same sluggish economy, he says he is going to put that off to 2011 at the earliest. Don't panic, he may change his mind 12-times between now and then.
Remove troops from Iraq? Yes one month ago, maybe not now. Talk with Iran? Tough on Iran? Stay tuned for breaking headlines, you never know when Barack will change his mind.
Smells like indecisiveness. And I think Russia has clued in on that.
Posted by Muck at November 28, 2008 12:55 PMWho said this?
“One of the things we clearly want to do with these prisoners is to have an ability to interrogate them and find out what their future plans might be, where other cells are located; under the Geneva Convention that you are really limited in the amount of information that you can elicit from people.”
“It seems to me that given the way in which they have conducted themselves, however, that they are not, in fact, people entitled to the protection of the Geneva Convention. They are not prisoners of war. If, for instance, Mohamed Atta had survived the attack on the World Trade Center, would we now be calling him a prisoner of war? I think not. Should Zacarias Moussaoui be called a prisoner of war? Again, I think not.”
Anyone? Anyone?
Posted by Muck at November 28, 2008 01:04 PMA psychological truth from Bush: "We had to destroy half the cities of Iraq, the U.S. Constitution and the global economy in order to save a village."
(sigh)
Posted by Craig at November 28, 2008 01:58 PMThe trolls have posted that they "want Obama to succeed".
Yet here they are with their usual devisive campaign to tear him down before he takes office.
I feel sorry for them, they must have had the republican mantra beaten and brainwashed into them from the crib on. So sad for a 3 year old to have to repeat "small government" 1,000 times or suffer a cucumber being shoved up their butt.
They are clearly beyond help and won't get out of the old road, much less lend a hand.
Posted by TIKI AL at November 28, 2008 03:41 PMWhen you have not one iota of moral fiber, tough decisions are very easy to make. Those with morals and integrity weigh the consequences of their decisions before making them. Bush has never thought once about the consequences of any decision he ever made, personally or publicly. That is why his Father has spent a lifetime of bailing the frat boy out of trouble.
Posted by Judith at November 28, 2008 05:31 PMIronic that Barbara Bush would get a serious ulcer from her son's lousy performance in the oval office due to poor parental training.
Posted by TIKI AL at November 28, 2008 06:35 PMAnyone have a guess at what Bill of Rights hater made those comments listed above? Rove? Rumsfeld? Cheney? Ashcroft? Maybe one of them? Any guesses?
Posted by Muck at November 28, 2008 06:59 PMEver notice that those who worship the chimp appear to share his lack of common sense or brains? From a lifetime of burying their head up their ass? Care to explain muck-fuck or pants pissin pete?
Posted by headxray at November 28, 2008 07:51 PMNow that Bush is a lame duck who nobody cares about, he's at long last grown into the presidency. (That's snark).
Posted by Danton at November 28, 2008 08:07 PMOkay Muck, why don't you tell us who it was, when it was, where it was, and in what content it was said. Link please.
Posted by Judith at November 29, 2008 01:41 AMYes, Bush came to Washington with a set of values, however, the set of values he so proudly claims are not the values of most Americans.
Yes, he was willing to make "tough choices," but evidently Bush was not taught about consequences, and therefore, was free to make any choice he wanted and not consider the lives of others or the consequences of those choices.
Yes, Bush "carefully considered the advice of smart, capable people." However, I might remind you that Hitler had smart, capable people surrounding him also. Whether or not these were "good people" is certainly up for debate.
Posted by Judith at November 29, 2008 02:25 AMEric Holder, Barack Obama's choice for Attorney General.
Posted by Muck at November 29, 2008 10:54 AMMuck disappears for the last month of the election and then like a good little troll shows up to beat up Obama who isn't even sworn in yet!Muckster, this is why your team lost, all negative, all the time. Can't you people ever get over your bitterness? Find a hobby muckster, you are to be pitied.
Posted by Joe at November 29, 2008 10:54 AMI think it is a credit to your system and people that your country is in as good a shape as it is after eight years of Bush/Cheney/Republican stupidity and corruption.
I am giving thanks this month that you have not sunk into a totalitarian military dictatorship, and that you have chosen a President that appears to have the intelligence and flexibility to steer you out of this [mostly] self inflicted disaster.
Richard Stanczak, excellent commentary on our system. Your right, we survived the eight years of criminals, corruption and greed, but there were times when most of us here weren't so sure we would survive.
President-elect Obama has an almost insurmountable challenge ahead, but hopefully we will begin to rebuild that which was destroyed during the eight years of Bush's reign.
Posted by Judith at November 29, 2008 12:42 PMThis thread seems as good a place as any to ask: What the hell is happening with the Hillary Clinton saga? Is she getting the damned job or not? I thought there was going to be an announcement after Thanksgiving.
Posted by Colin at November 30, 2008 01:27 AMI believe Bush is an admirer of Winston Churchill. Well, Churchill once said "Consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds."
Posted by Colin at November 30, 2008 01:39 AMI'm just curious. How long do you intend to continue bashing Pres. Bush? Will you stop on January 20th, or will you hound him to his grave? Also, do you expect the loyal opposition to "get behind" Obama after eight years of witnessing the Left degrade and demonize Bush? We would have thought that since you guys won the election, you would be happy at least momentarily, and put a lid on the torrent of verbal abuse. Can't you just worship The One without debasing the Other? And if not now, when?
