Comments: Are We Really a Democracy (or even a Democratic Republic)?

I really hate republicans, they do no good, they're ignorant, and they smell bad.

The state of governance in California is a complete clusterfuck. Really, it is. You have the ridiculous two-thirds rule, which prevents the state from establishing any kind of sensible tax policy. You have the ridiculously easy amendment process for the state constitution, which only requires 50%+1, making it easier than passing a law in many cases. And you have term limits in the legislature, which prevents legislators from gaining any experience with the process and essentially hands control of the state House and Senate over to the lobbyists, who know the ins and outs of the legislative process better than the actual legislators in most cases.

All this has turned the state into an ungovernable mess. The California government needs serious reform, and sooner rather than later.

Pretty weird that a 50%+1 vote can institute a future requirement for 66.6% votes.
