I too found Altemeyer thru John Dean. His work does explain volumes but since authoritarians like the chimp bunch harm us all..the thing to me...what do we do to negate their madnesS and idiocy? Our trolls are a good example that they will always find loonie-toon followers..it's the reason I despise them so much..

Of course you know that the seminal work on the F-scale or authoritarianism was done by Adorno et al.
This was expanded in 1960,1967 by Milton Rokeach who believed that this type of close-mindedness could apply to to Right or the Left.
Reading responses on this and other such blogs certainly increases my respect for Rokeach.
I invite you to look not at the content but the form and reasoning process of responders obviously on one side or the other.
pischwartz quite rightly mentions the Frankfurt school. One should still read Herbert Marcuse. "One Dimensional Man" and "Eros and Civilization", for example.
Posted by bernarda at December 28, 2008 12:06 PMSo far I've read the 2008 recap, the Introduction, the first chapter, and I'm going to pull Dean's book down from the shelf to review the relevant parts. Maybe even reread it as I read this new to me text. And I thought with a forced down time from work I would have nothing new to explore. Thank You, Mary.

Did Obama read this book per chance?
