A most depressing picture! It seems the establishment now has its eyes on the economy, as does the public at large. Here is hoping that the new administration can tear itself away from the business of making profits for a short while to the horror which America and right wing govenments across the world have inflicted on mankind. And here is hoping that Americans grow up and recognize their culpability in the sins which Mr. Moyers so accurately records.

That is exactly what I think when I hear the loud "USA" chants. You might as well be chanting for your favorite sports team, indeed.
It doesn't look so sporty in those closing pictures of dead and wounded on both sides.

Posted by vicki at January 11, 2009 01:01 PMThat was so powerful. Thank Goodness we still have a couple of media people with decency and guts - Moyers and Bob Simon of 60 minutes.
The fact is thaat Israelis are not against this attack and the fact is that Hamas et al have already been blowing up Israeli kids so they cant say, oh Now we will kill Israeli children.
I hope to God that Obama has an iron stomach and does as George Bush 41 did - tell Israel shut down the illegal settlements or they are on their own. And stick to it when the almightly wave of shit hits the fan.

I remember clearly all the excitement in the voices of most, not all, the media boys as they discussed the cool war toys were going to unleash on the Iraqis. I was deeply ashamed of them.
He lost me at 3:30 into the clip with this: "Hamas would like to see every Jew in Israel dead".
It is really sad to see someone of the calibre of Bill Moyers perpetuating this slanderous lie.
Posted by Shirin at January 11, 2009 07:05 PMAnd then he perpetuates the nonsense that what is going on in Palestine now is an "ancient conflict". It is nothing of the sort. This is about a century-old conflict that resulted from a movement by European Jews to establish an ethnocratic Jewish state in a land that had an overwhelmingly non-Jewish population. Prior to that Jews and Muslims and Christians had lived together in that land as diverse human groups live in other parts of the world.
