I applaud your posting that is helping american readers of this blog, to understand the difference between Indian and Pakistani position on Kashmir. For last 60 years, US has always equated India with Pakistan even though India was a secular democracy and Pakistan was a Islamic dictatorship. Finally India has proven that a secular democracy can become an economic and technological power while a religious based country can get bancrupt. Both countries started their journey at the same time in 1947 after gaining independance from Britain. Both started as very poor countries. Poverty still exists in India and Pakistan but India has atleast overcome some of it and and her people are much better off than the people of Pakistan.
You are correct that last 60 years of experience with US policy towards India has made her more cautious dealing with US. However, George Bush's approach in showing willingness in providing commercial nuclear energy has bridged a big gap. Bush may have been a worst president for US but he was the first US president to understand importance of friendship with world's largest democracy.
