If only Gore would have fought this hard to save us from the Lord of the Lies.
Anyone see "Recount"? (on DVD now)
Posted by TIKI AL at January 28, 2009 09:39 PMGore's horrible strategy combined with the scheming of Harris and the Supreme Court proved fundamentally disastrous, but at least we learned from it. The 2004 Washington governor race recount and this senate recount were done thoroughly, fairly, and professionally.
Posted by CA Pol Junkie at January 28, 2009 09:45 PMIt's impossible to figure out what Team Coleman even thinks they are "trying". He hasn't been forced to explain what his beef is with the recount and how any identified errors by election officials resulted in an incorrect election decision.
Why the judges are sitting there and listening to a dozen voters whose absentee ballots were thrown out for arguably legitimate and explainable reasons under the statute is a complete mystery. How many unhappy voters will Coleman call? 50, 100, 200? Who knows?
And what will it "prove"? There's an arguable, raional basis for why each one of them was rejected by the various county officials. And hundreds of Franken absentee ballots were also rejected by officials applying he exact same statute and standard.
No ordinary private litigate would be allowed to waste one judge's time with this pointless shit, let alone three. When one considers that the state has lost the crucial services of a senator during this circus, the court's indulgence becomes even more of a mystery.
Posted by euzoius at January 29, 2009 04:41 AMA mystery? I don't know who they are but I bet there's one republican in those judges. If you need a 100% verdict by the judges, then that's why. If you need a majority opinion and one is R, another a D and another functionally in between, then you have another.
I'm just sayin'.
Posted by gmknobl at January 29, 2009 05:53 AMgmknobl, a 2-1 verdict is all that is needed for a ruling. The panel, selected by a Democratic friendly Supreme Court justice, is ideologically balanced including a judge appointed by Jesse Ventura.
