Does McCain know how ridiculous he looked asking Obama about an expensive helicopter that Bushco ordered?
Seriously, is McLame losing it?
Posted by TIKI AL at February 24, 2009 07:03 AMI give Ahnold credit for speaking against the repub governors who were complaining about the federal program. I don't like the guy, but I acknowledge that he is on the right side of some issues.
I believe Obama will not use the bully pulpit to bully or demean the political flaks, but I hope the electorate will continue to see these issues clearly and that the partisan repubs will simply marginalize themselves with another disastrous election cycle.
Posted by mike at February 24, 2009 07:41 AMcertainly these polls, which show the public has caught on the GOP Obstructionism, is a welcome breeze. And since they know no other way, the hard right GOPers will continue to dig their political graves with partisan politics....but I don't think, unfortunately, that we can call them "history" yet. Until the Deep South sinks into the Gulf, they'll still be around.
Posted by T2 at February 24, 2009 08:40 AMIs depression here or not? not very clear. But if you look at the past history recessions and depressions come and go. Economies go through cycles and recession is part of the cycle.
In the mean time, I just came across a very helpful website on the current economic downturn and employment:

The Repubs have now deployed their noise machine into a frenzy of hatred for Obama, and these numbers will change in a couple weeks. See Mediamatters report "Unhinged in 30 days".
The first strategy is to detach the Repub base from any level of support for Obama, to allow their Congress reps the needed maneuvering room. Hence the huge and unprecedented run-up in hate speech by Rushbo, Beck, Hannity and the whole FOX machine, where the overwhelming number of Repub schmoes get their "news".
They are just getting underway in their hate campaign, and their hatred for majority rule and most of their fellow Americans (who voted for Obama) is bottomless. They'd be delighted to bring the whole country down to "defeat" Obama.
Count on it---this is an insane group of crazed radicals, and the "fun" is just beginning for them...as Krugman said we will now see what an irrational minority party can do.
Posted by euzoius at February 24, 2009 09:46 AMRegarding helicopter order, in some camps this is seen as payoff for Italy supplying fake intel about Saddam purchasing yellowcake from Africa. And until corporations are no longer regarded as persons with 1st amendments rights or until we have mandatory REAL public campaign financing, the right-wingers will continue to get re-elected.
Posted by VaLiberal at February 24, 2009 09:46 AMSo Bobby Jindal might turn down federal money to extend unemployment insurance because at some point the money runs out and companies will have to be taxed to pay for it (or something like that.) I'm sure the unemployed appreciate him looking out for the businesses that laid them off, rather than looking out for them. I do understand the concern, but really, how does he think NOT helping the unemployed is a good thing?
Posted by CG at February 24, 2009 11:32 AMCG, don't forget you are dealing with a cult of the insane member, in jindal...logic
(or compassion, for that matter) is anathema to these maroons....
Solis confirmed. The no votes: Bond, Bunning, Burr, Coburn, Cornyn, Crapo, DeMint, Ensign, Inhofe, Kyl, Risch, Roberts, Sessions, Shelby, Thune, Vitter and Wicker.
Take a good look at those names...they represent the core of foulness that will try at every turn to obstruct the operation of the US Government. They run the gamut from pure nuts, to religious nuts, to good old boy nuts to hooker-using nuts. That, folks, is the heart of today's GOP.

After the GOP’s kamikaze mission to obstruct the stimulus package[...]
You have no idea how desperately stupid that sounds, do you? You're either so rich that you are immune to the consequences of the panic that's being manufactured around us, or you're so fucking poor that you think the Promised Land is at hand.
Socialism is against America. You wretched Maoist bastards want to see just how far you can take things, apparently. And cloaked in the sacrosanctity of multiculturalism, right?
Enjoy the show tonight.
Posted by Toby Petzold at February 24, 2009 03:15 PMgeez TP you don't even bother to 'cloak' your fascism do you?

Many trees will be saved tonight in the form of millions of barf bags that would have been required if McLame was speaking.
Posted by TIKI AL at February 24, 2009 04:27 PMHey TP boy you know what's truly "desperately stupid"? Idiots that support selfish, ignorant, greedy repuke pricks like the chimp and the failed moronic ideas and policies they push. In short assholes like you...
Posted by headxray at February 24, 2009 06:48 PMsome bi-partisanship...
Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen says he’s still among the top candidates for a post in the Obama cabinet, but that hasn’t discouraged him from possibly rejecting some of the stimulus money that President Barack Obama is sending his way.
Bredesen, who says he is “on a fairly short list” of candidates for health and human services secretary, told a Chattanooga paper that he is considering turning down federal funds for unemployment insurance included in the economic recovery package signed by the president last week.
Democrat Bredesen is concerned that accepting $141 million for Tennessee’s unemployment insurance would force the state to expand the program and leave state taxpayers with the bill in two years’ time.
“We are evaluating this piece of money, whether it makes sense for us to take it,” he said. “We may well be one of the states that say we can’t take on that portion of it.”

Oh, why won't President Obama look the people in the eyes? He never looked at the camera, always reading. Jindal looked the people in the eyes continually. Sure he probably read from a prompter through the camera like presidents do while speaking in the Oval Office. The president wouldn't even look at us during the applause times.
Jindal has Mr. Rogers down pat and is ready for the Improv!
Posted by TIKI AL at February 24, 2009 11:48 PMPalin must be one happy woman tonight!
