Comments: The Irrational Expectations Hypothesis

what is this science you speak of? Don't you know that today's ReThugs are utterly anti-science? Don't you know they create their own reality? /snark/

"we find ourselves in today but because there has been a general degradation in the quality of research within parts of the academic profession over the past say 15-20 years or so, for various intrinsic and extrinsic reasons. I find this to be true even in the "hard" sciences."

Eri, can't this apply to those pushing global warming or man made climate change?

"that allowed a whole range of new findings and discoveries about nature was the importance given to skepticism and the focus on identifying and understanding what aspects of conventional scientific wisdom were incorrect."

How much of this man made climate change "consensus" has been more of removing people's skepticism to make this conventional scientific wisdom I feel are incorrect? When someone challenges it/them, they are often labeled as something derogatory? Much of your discussion here can be applied to global warming with amazing clarity. And amazing different results.

Peter:

It looks like this is a new talking point that you got from RNC. Sorry, from Rush. Afterall he is the leader of GOP now. I disagree that research in Earthscience has diminished in last 15-20 years as you claim. On the contrary, because of space exploration we have enhanced our knowldge of Earth and her atmosphere.

Peter, didn't you learn in your childhood not to compare apples and oranges?

I love the lack of depth with this "talking points" crap. Just typing that phrase make ya feel better? Sure moves the conversation along now...

One can say we've had broad advances just by the numbers...you throw enough money at something and somethings got to come out...still doesn't mean we haven't had a degradation in the quality of research.

Pants pisser petie..quit acting like you pukes are capable of "thought" you spew talking points bullshit on cue daily.it's nothing but parroting bullshit you asshole..pukes proved they can't grasp science for eight years.you also demonstrated a complete lack of anything resembling honesty...quit now pants pisser before your head explodes..

Peter,

Your question is reasonable. The answer is simple.

No one is preventing genuine scientific research on climate change. No one is arguing that skeptical findings on climate change are unacceptable. What is being argued is that the vast majority of the small minority that are vocal climate skeptics have been doing one of two things: (a) Either behaving like hacks peddling spurious crap that has been debunked multiple times over, or (b) Publishing weak pseudo-science in non-peer reviewed conservative "journals" that fail the credibility test when subject to even the moderate rigor of today's scientific standards.

There are in fact credible scientists who are looking at this subject in open minded fashion and I am not aware of any significant group of credible scientists who have produced a shred of rigorous evidence challenging the basic finding that the globe is warming overall at a rate that is unprecedented in modern history and that it is very likely that a major (but not only) cause of that warming is anthropogenic (man-made) effects.
