Socialism is not American. In fact, it's anti-American. If President Demagogue really had an interest in improving the economy, he would make it easier for employers to hire people.
Instead, he and the wretched Pelosi and Reid are going to raise taxes on everybody who works to finance this disgusting welfare state fantasy they're playing out.
I'll pax more taxes if the G will in turn incentivize tubal ligations and implanted chemical contraceptives for women who want to succeed. Get it? Pay them to not have kids and maybe they'll have time to get some schooling or a trade and stop squeezing out more Democrats.
Posted by Toby Petzold at March 7, 2009 03:15 PMOh Toby. That's sad.
I bet you even believe that world has cooled drastically in the last several years like some of your friends on the right.
In fact, if we just freeze government spending and cut taxes, everything would be just peachy-keen. And you will be happy to hold cake sales to keep your highways paved and your bridges intact. Right?
Posted by Mary at March 7, 2009 03:37 PMMore "wisdom" from the right..TP boy advocates sterilizing women who may disagree with his enlightened viewpoint..TP that worked out real well for hitler and his version of the republican party..you right wing nazi's go need to find your own island..
Posted by headxray at March 7, 2009 04:01 PMMary, I admit that global warming, if it's still allowed to be called that, is one issue that I have turned all the way Right abt in the past couple of years. Totally pegged out. As a practical matter, if China and India and all the other great economies aren't going to abide by things like Kyoto, then there is no ethical or scientific argument strong enough to convince the majority of Americans that they alone should bear the burden of cutting emissions.
And this ridiculous carbon tax they're cooking up is some sort of perverted return to the Treasury of Merit. It's just a way for the UN to impose itself on the post-American world Obama wishes to see.
The first article you quoted says that we've only been keeping meteorological records (I don't know by what standards) since 1880. It's nothing but puny human vanity to suppose that we know enough to blame ourselves for changes in the climate, You hippies want to wreck our economy by killing the combustion engine before a feasible and competitive motor/energy paradigm is running in parallel.
The free market is built on alternatives. Government-run economies are monopolies are innovation-killers are destroyers of human liberty.
Posted by Toby Petzold at March 7, 2009 05:38 PMTP keep trying to portray yourself as an intelligent, concerned citizen..the real TP came out in your sterilization comment..a true believer aren't you? Fucking neo-nazi scum by any other name..
I am tired of the whining of both the left and the right. It is not constructive, and papers over the true problem. Although I will not point fingers, those who would somehow equate abortion with our economic problems are fools. They obfuscate and fail to provide rational arguments about our current state of affairs.
The problem is government intervention where government intervention does not belong. That is, the overwhelming desire for government to provide collective stopgaps and incentives for businesses as well as individuals.
Federal government can do few things well. The basic regulation of trade and defense forces as well as assuring the smooth conduct of business between states are those I can primarily think of, but there are other just as relevant examples. But these are all that are important. I'm sure many conservatives will agree that government has no right to tax business as well as individuals beyond the need to assure the previously mentioned activities are funded in an appropriate manner, but these activities can largely be funded through tariffs and the like.
As soon as government begins to tax businesses and individuals to provide things like social security, unemployment compensation, payments to businesses, education supports, FDIC to protect assets, bankruptcy courts, and the entire plethora of things individuals businesses or States should be providing, then it has overstepped its bounds.
The way out of the current economic crisis is to allow business to operate in an unfettered fashion. Neither the government nor business should be expected to comply with retirement plans since these things are anathema in the American Democracy. If people cannot plan ahead it is no one elses problem but the person who can't plan. Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, as well as TANF should end. Stop all Federal Government support for the pork barrel projects of bridges, roads and the various construction projects that infest the budget. All space exploration and other Federally funded research projects should end and private or State funding should be used for those.
If certain States wish to engage in these activities let them tax their citizens or businesses to pay for it rather than expect the populace in general to be concerned with these things.
My aim is not to be cruel here. But there should be consequences for not planning properly. If you are unable to care for yourself or your family others should not be expected to do so. If we give business a chance it will self-correct and we will once again have a vibrant economy supporting the needs of the majority of Americans who have some worth.
Posted by -The Last True Conservative- at March 7, 2009 08:48 PMIt's pretty obvious our current crisis is the RESULT of the best "planning" conservatives are capable of. So much for your "opinions"tc..better check those talking points again
