Comments: Reworking Capitalism for People

Haven't you heard the Obama administration lately? Our economy has sound fundamentals - we are just going through a temporary mess.

When did Obama hire McCain's economic team? I think I missed that one.

Fund raising is ongoing and doing well!

Please open your hearts and help cure the brain eating bacterial disease that is decimating our trolls so we won't be subjected to more ultra stupid posts as above.

Mary, that was a great post. I hope we see more like that.

When I was growing up, I remember businessmen bragging that they were pragmatists and realists. Sometimes they were, though there was something sad and empty about the way they looked at the world. They would also promote the idea of the survival of the fittest. That kind of talk was lunk-headed but there was something to be said about corporations that were flexible and adaptable. That adaptability, particularly in our older industries, seems to have gone out the window except for nimble sociopaths trying to grab as much money for themselves as possible, the future of the company, its workers and customers be damned.

The market economy has done very little for most Americans over the last eight years. Personally, I believe we made a profound mistake back in 1980 when we elected a president who had no interest in promoting alternative energy or energy conservation. Our use of fossil fuels, including coal, might have been greatly reduced by now if we had taken seriously our predicament. Obviously, we need a new and improved way of doing things.

the entire problem started with tricky dick and took off with the acceptance and legitimization of ray-gun....assisted along the way by the likes of KKK rove and other assorted psycho's and morons...common sense dictates with the range of problems our entire planet faces, let alone how we relate to one another economically, requires a radical re-evaluation of almost all our thinking..whether we accomplish enough to survive depends on those who think global warming or peak oil don't apply to them since they're too wealthy for them to be affected to be forced to see reality...you know the same reality rove bragged the pukes were creating....

Well, it just depends, fucktard. Obama did not say it. Please show me where he did. What WAS said and by whom: Christina Romer said one thing, Larry Summers another. What we do know is that the key to recovery "...[I]s the implementation of the president's full economic agenda." And that is what they both said.

Of course, republi-KKKons intend to just say "NO" to anything and everything Obama. So, Tex -and no doubt you are called "Tex" because you have a big belt buckle to cover your tiny penis, as all chalky Texicans do- stay the fuck out of the way. You are about to get stampeded by your betters.

And I certainly hope that lame ass asswipe Norris becomes pretzledent of Tay-hass. He'll soon learn why his directors didn't let all the "bad" guys jump him at once. He would get his fossilized ass stomped flat. Though I've noticed he needs to get another one of those face lifts he likes. It'sd never too late to get so tight your asshole is under your shirt collar. Though I bet he will soon get an urostomy. Hair dye has been linked to these things, and the way he slathers that shit on his head and face makes him a prime candidate. He doesn't realize how comical he looks...does he...and that is for the good.

Remember, Chuck Norris, who is also suffering from brain eating bacteria, is on record: "If I were president I would tattoo "In God we trust" on the forhead of every atheist in America".

Yea Chuck, those evil peeps who believe in evolution are very threatening.

Yikes. Didn't think that comment was very trollish. I thought this posturing from the administration that mirrored McCain's out of touch positions would be seen in a negative light here as well. Thought a post about changing the "fundamentals" of our economy was appropriate for this comment.

But for the record, I never said Obama said it, I said his administration did. I don't have a big belt buckle. I don't like Chuck Norris.

Resorting to personal insults demonstrates a lack of intelligence or a lack of confidence in my opinion.

Placing a personal insult in a sentence about personal insults was pretty clever.

BTW, I'm smarter than you, more confident than you, and doggone it, people like me!

I'm very confident in my lack of intelligence, thank you very much!

Hmmm....

...the type of capitalism that has brought the world to this point was based on the belief that selfishness ("self-interest") should be the crowning value.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but I always thought Adam Smith spoke of enlightened (i.e. not totally self-absorbed to the exclusion of all else) self-interest.

To bring in a cultural reference, I read the other day that Ayn Rand's books have had a sudden surge in popularity. Obviously the true believers feel the need to reinforce their core faith.

Colin,

That's because we are watching Atlas Shrugged become reality.

The "willing and able" are supporting the "unwilling and able" more and more each day. I think I'll throw the TV out the window if I see another deadbeat "victim" whining about not being able to pay their mortgage debt... or another failed company that needs a bailout...
