Seems like several items on his to do list are being pushed off. Ad Card Check to that list to go with his Carbon tax. I read he's targeting Evan Bayh of Indiana.
During his press conference last night, President Obama essentially told the nation: Have patience. Bear with me. Governing is hard. Or, as he actually put it, "This is a big ocean liner. It’s not a speedboat. It doesn’t turn around immediately."
I only wish he would have thought about this last year when he was complaining about Bush. In Obama's ideal world, the cap-and-trade program would be folded into the budget; under Senate rules, the budget can be passed with a mere 51 votes...and, remember, the Senate Democrats on paper have 58 votes. But because so many Senate Democrats have signaled that they want cap-and-trade removed from the budget - eight of them, including Pennsylvania's Bob Casey and Indiana's Evan Bayh, have already put this in writing - that would appear to put the kibosh on easy passage of Obama's signature environmental idea.
Among those Democratic senators who are resisting quick passage of cap-and-trade, there is also a regional factor. Carl Levin hails from Michigan; Robert Byrd hails from West Virginia. Those states get much of their energy from coal-fired plants; under an Obama program, the utilities that run those plants are likely to pay a pretty price for their carbon emissions. And the fear, in the affected states, is that the price would be passed down to the consumers. Which is why, earlier this month, the Detroit News editorialized that Obama's program is "a giant economic dagger aimed at the nation's heartland."
Then there's the campaign, MoveOn has apparently decided that the only elected officials with anything to fear from opposing Obama are Democrats in marginal seats. There are ads targeted at 9 Democrats in moderate districts or states. They are Sens. Jeanne Shaheen (NH) and Evan Bayh (IN), and Representatives Gabrielle Giffords (AZ-8), Harry Mitchell (AZ-5), Jason Altmire (PA-4), Joe Donnelly (IN-2), Chris Carney (PA-10), Baron Hill (IN-9) and Mike McIntyre (NC-7). These ads serve as a reminder that there’s a price for defying the liberals in Washington, so Democrats better vote the MoveOn line, and not what their constituents may want.
The Campaign for America’s Future goes further. They accuse moderate Democrats of offering ‘treacherous opposition’ to the Obama agenda
I wonder how this helps the opposition running in those races? The holders of these districts determine who controls Congress; if MoveOn and the Campaign for America’s Future want to make their re-election runs a little harder, it makes it easier for Republicans to regain control. I might want to contribute to MoveOn now.
Turn to starboard boson, then full speed ahead.
I'm a Democrat, and behind Obama 100+%. But I backed Hillary all the way until she didn't win the primaries ( which came well before she quit :) ).
I backed Hillary because she would fight better - get down and dirty. Aas far as I am concerned, push the Republicans, and if they're drowning in negative public opinion - throw them an anchor.

Shit-fer-brains pete and his puke talking points propaganda are a rerun again....pity the pukes..no brain power present...

Nice cut-n-paste from redstate, philly.com, etc. Could you put your own ideas and words in [brackets]? Otherwise I'm stuck with looking for abnormally stupid stuff in your drivel to know which is your stupid (Turn to starboard boson, then full speed ahead) as opposed to redstate stupid (MoveOn has apparently decided that the only elected officials with anything to fear from opposing Obama are Democrats in marginal seats.)

Redstate said you should hold this rope here, peter.
Posted by phidipides at March 25, 2009 04:44 PMLeftists and liberals who claim to care about the little guy living from paycheck to paycheck cannot morally support a carbon tax. It is a dealbreaker that will take a full tenth of every working man's wages ---just like a tithe--- be it through increased gasoline prices or increases on consumer goods and services.
Remember that it was bullshit like the Treasury of Merit and the selling of indulgences that led to the Protestant Reformation.
Do you want to guess at what the modern day political equivalent of Lutheranism might be?
I can't wait to smash your idols. Especially The One.
Posted by Toby Petzold at March 25, 2009 06:32 PMThere already are clear indications that Obama takes climate change seriously.
Man, you must be going to some really "progressive" websites. The ones that seem to be leaving out the climate stuff that's going on in Congress. Of course, if you looked deeper into this stuff you wouldn't have that petulant tone of Shirley Temple, and that would be no fun at all.
If you read a bit beyond the nattering nabobs of histrionic-progressiveness, you'll see where someone is trying to regulate the market for carbon offset credit allowances BEFORE they are dumped on the market. There is a lot of energy stuff going on, and much more to come. Heck, if you did a little research and read about some of it you might feel a little better. Naw, don't.

How? Vote to secede and make that 2nd rate lousy old actor with a goofy face lift and a bad dye-job your Tex-ass putzledent?

Financial Times Deutschland:
“Only a few weeks ago, in his draft budget for 2012 to 2019, Obama had envisaged an annual revenue stream of $646 billion from the auctioning of emissions permits.”

Golly. I bet you didn’t know saving us from another dreaded half degree of heat over the next 100 years was going to be so profitable - for Washington. Hm?
Global warming is a political movement by economists and government workers, and has nothing to do with science.
Al Gore has a new book coming out, destined to be another best seller in Fiction. I forget the release title, but the working title should've been "I'm Milking this Baby for All it's Worth."
Posted by JFixx at March 25, 2009 11:05 PMThe republican party really has written science off; it's sad really. This did not used to be the case. In between creationism and climate change denial (and mixed in with sneering about science items in the budget, like "volcano monitoring")the GOP is now the party of ignorance. Let's see how far that takes you.
Turkana - I didn't read Obama's comments that way at all. He made it clear that green energy was a major ingredient. But the entire question was silly, since the president doesn't approve the budget at this stage. (He does have to sign the spending authorizations later.)
