Nine days, good for you. You can give them up if you can get 9 days. Sending good thoughts your way.
Posted by mike at April 18, 2009 08:50 AMNine days...
You are a full fledged ex-smoker. Good for you! A couple of more days and the world will take on a what I can only describe as a "sparkly" look.
Posted by phidipides at April 18, 2009 08:57 AMBack in '99 I was in hospice with a bad liver and 7 hardcore lifelong smokers sporting wheelchairs and oxygen tanks. They still snuck out to the patio and smoked smuggled cigarettes. I used to wince while waiting for an explosion.
After watching all 7 die over 3 weeks I had no one to talk to so I went home and "gaught bettah".
May 25th will be 10 years without a beer, and I did it by myself without the help of "baby Jesus".
Hang in there, it is worth it.
PS: Did you find out who is poisoning you?
Posted by TIKI AL at April 18, 2009 09:44 AMCongrats on the nine days.
In over 30 years of smoking I quit 3 times... once for nine months, once for a year and finally for good 21+ years ago.
Keep at it!
Posted by bobbski at April 18, 2009 10:14 AMIt's been 10 years since I gave up smoking. Thank goodness there's coffee when I need focus and pep. Have you heard that coffee is also good for a workout at the health club?
Posted by Eric at April 18, 2009 12:26 PMNext from the left:
Smoking is torture.
Torture is good, I wish American soldiers would start using it to get the info from terrorists, since it works, every time, without exception to get accurate information, as proven by every other nation in the world, over and over again. America is the only nation to hold out and not ever torture.
Have any of you sick and twisted left wing Liberal loon Maroons ever asked yourselves why you hate the American Gitmo guards for making people stand around naked, more than you hate the terrorists that cut off Daniel Pearl’s head. And you do …. Definitely …. Have that first hateful thought about the Gitmo guards, even though you are too gutless to admit it in this blog. Nuts like you Left wing fringe dwellers are angrier with American soldiers who made some terrorists stand naked, more than you are angry with terrorists beheading a fellow American. Those of you on the left are so pathetic because you just can’t stand it that the Right, is Right as they ALWAYS are when compared to the Left. Liberalism is a mental illness.
First, keep on keepin' on NOT smoking. Snickers, even a half a Snickers, will take you beyond a desperate moment.
Secondly, to the RepugTard preceding me in the comments, you are waaaay too messed up to know how I, a proud Liberal, thinks. I comment on what you do, while you think you can comment on what I am. Go away until you grow up.
PEACE.
Posted by Richard W. Crews at April 18, 2009 02:48 PMCan any of you left wing, Liberal, Loons think of even one good reason why all Liberals shouldn’t be put on a garbage scow, set out to sea, and never again be allowed to set foot on dry land, to resume your natural state of sucking and parasitically leaching off hard working, honest, intelligent, human beings.

"I, a proud Liberal, " ????
Is there such a thing as that?
Hey...go ahead and have that smoke Paradox..what the hell. Tastes good like a cigarette should.
Tiki..I am sure it was some big pharmaceutical company that trashed the old blood filter. They are to blame!
Have a beer and sue them.
It's The Liberal Way !!
Posted by redsneakers at April 18, 2009 05:34 PMredsnake you surpass your previous fucktard statement with each new post..have faith someone as idiotic and reality challenged as you won't survive long after leaving mommie's basement
Posted by headxray at April 18, 2009 07:19 PMWhoo - you've got some case of trolls here!
I quit smoking 15 years ago - for the first 3 months I was non compos mentis - completely out of my mind - carried by my (should be sainted) coworkers. Here are the reasons to stay quit:
If you smoke you'll lose your teeth - my dentist said if I'd smoked another 5 years I'd be wearing dentures.
If you smoke you'll look like you're 10 years older - wrinkles, bad skin, all that.
If you smoke you won't be able to walk blocks for politics - no Obama for you.
If you quit you won't miss cigarettes - I guarantee after the physical addiction subsides you won't miss it. I still dream I've gone back and when I wake and realize it's all a bad dream I'm totally relieved.
Posted by jimintampa at April 18, 2009 07:20 PMLet us hope and pray that any right-wingers, especially any belonging to right-wing militia groups, and similarly forced to quit smoking because of the large tobacco tax increase, handle their nicotine withdrawal period as gracefully.
And let us also hope and pray that anyone laid off due to this large tobacco tax increase, like someone working at any of the tens of thousands of small businesses around the country that sell tobacco products, businesses which no doubt will experience a drop in their revenues due to this regressive tax being implemented during a worsening recession, will similarly respond gracefully during their paycheck withdrawal period.
From what I can tell, extremism of one sort breeds extremism of another, just what our nation needs at this time. Not!! Zero-tolerant conservatives, of one sort or another, seem to feed off one another, with none of them ever being able to stop and go told turkey from their "clean up society" mania.
Posted by The Oracle at April 18, 2009 08:29 PMKeep up the good fight Doxie! Don't light up again.
And when time comes to vote, vote "no" on the budget. It's a cluster... It does seem that many fine folks like yourself have been wandering away to another state. That gerrymandering's a bitch. The people never get served right by those who have their seats for life, or another opportunity comes along.
Vote "NO" in May.
Posted by peter at April 18, 2009 09:41 PMDon't quit quitting. Don't be a troll: avoid poisoning the air around you (smoke vs. "hot air and BS")
Posted by sharon at April 19, 2009 03:46 AMredsneakers: I could have, but didn't sue anyone.
I was also offered the pole position for a "Million Man March to Miller Brewery", but also declined.
If your stupid enough to smoke after Betty Davis called cigarettes "cancer sticks" in the movies in the 30's, and still chose to drink in excess after all the liver jokes about drinking, it's your TS.
PS: Is it true your sneakers run red with blood?
Posted by TIKI AL at April 19, 2009 12:42 PMNever have smoked...drink a beer when I am really thirsty for a beer...once in a harvest moon or so..maybe a drink of wine for a special occasion, wedding or some such event.
Tell me, addiction to alcohol, tobacco etc. How do they differ from, say, Oxycontin or some other such chemical? Do you have anything in common with those folks, you hypocrite?
I wouldn't know about addiction, drinking beer was merely a traditional hobby for everyone in Milwaukee. Perfectly legal.
Nice of you to stick up for the OxyContin drug addict who was guilty of illegal acts. He should be doing his show from jail.
So who's the hypocrite?
Posted by TIKI AL at April 19, 2009 04:00 PM
Hypocrite?
You burned your liver but you wouldn't know about addiction?
Still you, silly girl.
Posted by redsneakers at April 19, 2009 05:42 PMQuitting smoking is the hardest thing I ever did.
Keep up the good work, and remember that support from others trying to quit may help you. Maybe there's a quit-smoking chat room somewhere.

Quitting smoking is the hardest thing I ever did.
I dunno, you seem to be unable to quit whining about Hillary conceding the primary, and that was almost a year ago...
Posted by Twinky P* at April 20, 2009 05:44 AM"You burned your liver but you wouldn't know about addiction?"
...The doctor said it was from playing with lead soldiers in a lead painted room as a child.
