Para..."my party"? I'm sure you understand deep down inside that both parties are more like rival organized crime families. These "leaders" who end up voting for legislation are party hacks...put in place by party capos to run for election in jerry-mandered districts.
It is party before country with these clowns. They are either bought and paid for or being blackmailed for some sexual or financial indesecretion. The system is hopelessly dysfunctional and needs to be reformed/replaced.
Loyalty to either party is what keeps the system going. They all need to be exposed for what they are, then dumped out on the street.
Posted by brisa at April 25, 2009 06:26 AMFolks like Napolitano have to step up to the fight. She simply needed to respond to the right-wing attacks with a simple sound bite: "Listen, if you don't understand the risks involved with recruitment of combat veterans by right-wing extremist groups, I have two words for you: Oklahoma City."
The dems have to anticipate the right-wing hissy fits and be ready to squelch them with a sound bite.
As the memos from the Global Climate Coalition showed, and as Dick Cheney continues to demonstrate, the right-wing crazies are not afraid of lying, they are afraid of not having a persuasive sound bite. They win the public battle by always going to a persuasive sound bite and they could care less whether there is any factual basis for their argument. Talk them down. Be ready. No groveling when you say something that is true and get attacked.

We are not related to these non-humans.
I believe a Napolitanoisque apology is in order.
She didn't just say that military could be recruited for their skills. The memo made clear that the entire right side of the political spectrum is a terrorist organization, and that military are *more likely* to join terror groups because of their service to the country.
DHS released a partisan attack and an attack on the nation's military as a security memo.
Posted by Darkside007 at April 25, 2009 10:42 AMWhy brisa....we do need redistricting reform. What did the Governator want for California, a panel who just might draw some decent lines to get the voters message in moving our country forward. Take this away from the politicians drawing their own lines, picking their own voters.
I guess this is what you get when relying on a report requested by the prior administration. I understand that a few of it's authors are being reassigned. The report was fair and balanced in that it also had a left side warning as well as the right, but that didn't get much press other than on Foxnews.
The Obama administration appears to have learned from this and the previous controversy over medical coverage of service-related injuries and illnesses, and Cmdr. Rehbein has graciously acknowledged that they do seem to be learning — and to want to learn.
Why has the Obama administration argued for the end of the Michigan v Jackson ruling that requires police to provide an attorney for a suspect once one has been requested? And further, why do we have to learn of this from the overseas media, the the Telegraph?
Within this article is this jewel: "President Barack Obama has already provoked controversy by backing the continued imprisonment without trial of enemy combatants in Afghanistan and by limiting the rights of prisoners to challenge evidence used to convict them."
Is he trying to institute a "police state" now? Is that what Democrats are pursuing? I thought this was the world, y'all professed President Bush and Dick Cheney would give us.
No more private ballots, no more free employment. Government control over personnel decisions. Picking which plant stays open, which citizens get jobs.
shit-fer-brains pete...always, completely striving to make a bigger asshole out of himself than he was the time before..thank gawd some things never change..
Posted by headxray at April 25, 2009 12:19 PMThe memo made clear that the entire right side of the political spectrum is a terrorist organization,
Perhaps you could point out where it made that clear. At the bottom of page 2, there's a definition of right wing extremism:
Rightwing extremists in the United States can be divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.
Of course, you may be asserting that the "entire right side of the political spectrum" is indeed hate-oriented and rejects federal authority (but only when a Democrat is in charge), in which case, I agree.
and that military are *more likely* to join terror groups because of their service to the country.
Again, could you point out that specific clause? I've read the whole thing, and I can't find it anywhere. Thanks for your cooperation.

Sure sounds like the best definition of the republican criminal, hate cult I've ever heard..

Yep, it sure is nice to see those folks y'all voted for apologizing.
And Jeralyn at Talkleft is concerned about Obama's DOJ, wondering about OIbama's "true colors".

Another propaganda spewing lying wingnut dispatched by twinky, to such damning extent that the cretinous liar doesn't even attempt to "respond". ("Darkside"--good Christ, even the screen name is juvenile and childish. Do these guys EVER advance beyond a mental age of 12 and an emotional age of 8?)
Puffed up with absolute, easily demonstrated lies, and slinking off without comment when exposed----that's white male "conservatism", as great a cancer as this country has ever been afflicted with.
As to the main point, apologies like this, when stong defenses are what's really needed, make clear that we on the Left are doomed because our leaders simply will not fight, don't even know how to fight, even when in possession of vastly superior arguments, history and evidence.
Why didn't Napolitano simply stand up and READ the damn memo to the Am Legion boys? Did she show up there solely to plead and apologize? Was this is a long scheduled address?
I assume the Dem DHS didn't attempt any defense because they know the corporate press will wilfully distort their statements and studiously ignore the lies of the conservative right, hence it's better to "retreat". But that's giving up the game even when you're in charge.
Well, so much for the (failed) "marketplace of ideas". At some point too many citizens heads are too empty or filled with too many right wing/corporate lies for any progress to occur.
DHS should have been ready with a counter-response of "why so many seem to want to side with Rightwing extremist domestic terrorists like Tim McVeigh and why they don't want the police to work to protect us from such terrorists". Instead, we apologize.
No wonder KKKarl Rover has such contempt for his opponents. They can't even hit a 9 iron!
Posted by euzoius at April 26, 2009 07:00 AMChrist, I hate this style of writing. It tries so hard to be ultra stylishly cool but you have to read the damn post over 5 times to understand it.
Bad writing is bad writing because it's hard to follow. But don't let that stop you. Keep those adjectives and adverbs flowing.
