Comments: The Sick Homophobic Bigotry Of Orson Scott Card

I read his early books, then dropped him as his next books were a trip to wackoland. I realized at the time I was reading his mormon background oozing out from the prose. Hearing about his stand against biologically defined homosexuals doesn't surprise me. Years ago a mormon friend of my (then young) daughter's tried to convert her, that started my intense dislike of these people. If you have young children, keep them away from mormons.

Mormophobic bigots you.

Posted by onar at May 3, 2009 10:35 AM

How man times have we heard this vile hatred spewed by someone claiming religious superiority, only to find out later, they've been spending an awful lot of time on their knees in a highway bathroom.

The Sick....Bigotry Of Keith Olbermann and Michael Musto.

Did you folks happen to see the Olberman-Musto segment regarding Carrie Prejean.

You may view it here:

Oh, wait. It is not bigotry if uttered by Leftists....it is "enlightenment."

Regards,

Bagley

I also thought Musto went over the top with that one. I, however KNOW that he is an outrageous comedian trying to shock people with blue bullshit.

Sadly, you and your peeps have yet to figure that out about Rush, Hannity, Beck, Colter, and O'Reilly.

Uhhh...you know, if you could read or even pay attention to what is being said you would know it's officials of the Miss California Pageant who ratcheted-up the rhetoric of fake boobs (not to worry, you've always proven yourself to be a real boob). You might notice that that was the impetus for Olbermann and Musto.

Now, as to Prejean. Is she a boob like you? As she replied to Greta Van "I like torture" Susteren when asked about civil unions for gays:

"You know what, Greta? I don't have the answers to everything. I'm not running for political office. I don't have the answers to everything, you know, in the world out there."

"But I think that there should be rights for people, you know, especially in California. I think that people that are homosexual should have some rights, you know, hospital rights, and things like that."

"But I would like to be more educated on that, so when I do have a better answer for you, I will get back to you on that one."

Not only is she a boob. She's a fucking idiot, just like you.

"You might notice that that was the impetus for Olbermann and Musto."

Perhaps, but they took it and ran and ran and ran....and ran.

A truly disgusting display of Leftist "tolerance."

But, phidipides, it might be that you are just jealous of Carrie Prejean: I am fairly certain that you do not look as attractive in a bikini.

Regards,

Bagley

There's a rather log, sordid history of popular science-fiction writers being bigots. I'm old enough that I read Robert Heinlein as a kid, being fascinated by his imaginative stories, but when I looked at his stuff again in my early 20s, I realized he was zealously promoting a twisted right-wing pseudo-libertarianism with strongly authoritarian, racist and anti-feminist elements. For example, in Starship Troopers, he envisages an Earth with a global government, but the franchise is restricted to those who perform military service. In Farnham's Freehold, the story line involves a post-nuclear-war scenario in which white people are the slaves of cannibalistic black rulers.

There's a rather large body of criticism about right-wing tendencies in sci-fi: just do some Google searches.

shorter bagley baghead..

I'm a genius, legend in my own mind all you lefties are bigots and us right wingers are saints...

Posted by headxray at May 3, 2009 04:31 PM

What is that strange buzzing sound...a fly, perhaps.

Posted by Just Me Again at May 3, 2009 04:40 PM

must be the sound of bagheads delusions telling him how superior he is...you'll always be an asswipe baggy, its all you know how to do....

"jealous of Carrie Prejean"

Carrie and I started life as flat chested brunettes. Yes, I am jealous that she had the drive to defy our intellyjunt deeziner and become a busty blonde.

I chickened out while on the phone with my Swedish travel agent/sex change coordinator.

Posted by TIKI AL at May 3, 2009 05:10 PM

Not a fly, just some other insignificant insect....

"I chickened out while on the phone with my Swedish travel agent/sex change coordinator."

TIKI, I had no idea! You seem like such a traditional Leftist.

So how is life treating you post-non-op-flat-chested-desirous-of-being-busty-blond-sexually-confused-brunette?

Posted by Just Me Again at May 3, 2009 05:23 PM

Oh, things are just 'ite for me troll dog, I don't know, er, sometimes I really have to question the intellyjunt deeziner. At 6'7" I would have been alot of woman.

But I would like to be more educated on that, so when I do have a better answer for you, I will get back to you on that one."

Posted by TIKI AL at May 3, 2009 05:33 PM

"But I would like to be more educated on that...."

I would think that -- by this time -- you would understand what it is like to be 6'7", if not a lot of woman.

But hey, keep living the dream: there may be (one day) a Broadway job for a rather tall post-non-op-flat-chested-desirous-of-being-busty-blond-sexually-confused-brunette....

How are you with show tunes?

Posted by Just Me Again at May 3, 2009 05:41 PM

I love show tunes! I picture myself as a sexy blonde pussy with 8 large teats singing "Midnight" in "Cats".

Guess you didn't recognize the Carrie quote from Greta that I threw back at you. And I thought you were one of the sharper trolls in the turd bin.

Posted by TIKI AL at May 3, 2009 05:59 PM

"Guess you didn't recognize the Carrie quote from Greta..."

I did recognize it. I let it pass. (You should, however, learn the concept of "open quote.")

Have a good evening.

Good night all.

Well, Bags has accomplished his goal - getting us off thread topic. score one for the troll.

Card has been a douche for a long time; a religious Mormon moderate until 2001, then taking a hard right turn after. Periodically he spouted off on his own communities of Hatrack and Ornery airing his views and letting anyone with the slightest bend otherwise know he hated their guts.

Ender's Game (and the universe) is the novel of exceptionalism Ayn Rand wishes she penned, with a layer of religion smeared on top.

It's a shame really - Card's great gifts are the prose between his characters, the ideas he once generated, and his willingness to be uncomfortably brutal to his creations. I still recommend Unaccompanied Sonata, his first collection of short work, and Pastwatch, even though PW can be arguably ripped on for some of the same issues with racism to boot.

Perhaps, but they took it and ran and ran and ran....and ran.

Glen Beck, anyone? Rush The Lush, anyone? Handjobity, anyone? Savage, anyone?

After Bea Arthur's passing there just might be an opening! Are you a baritone?

A truly disgusting display of Leftist "tolerance."

You bet.

Posted by phidipides at May 3, 2009 07:14 PM

Orson Scott Card and Carrie Prejean have the same views on gay marriage as President Obama and Vice President Biden: Marriage is between a man and a woman.

The public agrees. Only in the bubble of Hollywood, the media, and leftist-activist judges is marriage perverted.

Posted by JFixx at May 3, 2009 07:27 PM

Bagley, you stupid fuck, why do you assume that we are all "tolerant?" I'm tolerant of others' private lives, yes. I'm wholly intolerant of lying douchebags like yourself.

You assume, you ass.

Posted by The Creator at May 3, 2009 07:42 PM

"During a telephone interview later in the day, Popescu reasserted his view."

"A young man asked me what I think of homosexual marriages and I said I think homosexuals should be executed," he said. "My whole reason for running is the Bible and the Bible couldn't be more clear on that point."

Will Ms. Greenjeans cast the first stone? Stay tuned, she's lern'in up on the homos as we speak.

People for the American Way is an excellent website (though the name does suggest a bunch of Sarah Palins), but they are inclined to be one-track-minded. I sometimes get the impression they think if only gay rights get sorted out, all will be well with the world.
It's not that gay rights don't matter - they certainly do - but there are other things to worry about: the economy, foreign policy, the unfortunate propensity of Americans to shoot each other (or, in absurd accidents, themselves)...

I enjoyed the Ender series up to the piggies/trees planet - years ago. The AI stuff was kind of fun. And Starship Troopers is still a cult "bad movie" favorite - who cares who wrote the shit, as long as it's entertaining? If you're going to the movies, or reading a book, solely because the author agrees with your political positions, you're silly anyhow. Like those idiot wingnuts who keep putting out "top 10 conservative...whatevers." Lighten up, people.

And for the record - I thought Chuck Norris was a poor man's Jean Claude Van Damme long before I got into politics. Cheesy moves, cheesy facial hair, cheesy over- (if you can call it) acting. It's not a surprise he's also a brain dead dickhead; to me, he's always been one.

Posted by Twinky P* at May 4, 2009 07:45 AM

OK, does anybody remember the "Worthing Chronicles" by Card? Of course, that goes back aeons, which kinda lets you know that I rode dinosaurs bare-back. Card has chosen to let his Mormonism get the better of him and I've chosen to not support his habit. He can find someone else to fund his eccentricities.

Posted by PrahaPartizan at May 4, 2009 09:27 AM

As a Mormon, I can testify that Card does not represent Mormons or the Mormon church. Just his own opinions.

Posted by Bryan at May 4, 2009 09:35 AM

To return to science fiction, if anyone would like to read a great parody of the Heinlein school, try "Star Smashers of the Galaxy Rangers" by Harry Harrison, a good SF author of, perhaps, the second rank. Humour in SF isn't all that common, but Harrison and, among others, Bob Shaw, could bring it off, and they aren't right-wing.

Posted by Colin at May 4, 2009 05:06 PM

What do you expect of a man that writes a book glorification of a Hitler figure (Ender's Game)?

Gee, a person who idolizes Hitler in books doesn't like homosexuals. Go figure. What's next, Card? A Concentration camp for Cat Cora?

Sorry, I won't be reading you works ever again. I won't burn them though like you might, I'll explain what's wrong about them (and you or people who think like you) to everyone that will listen.

I guess we see here how Card is acting like his horrible characters too.

Noted Homophobe Orson Scott Card, is a judge for the Scientology funded "Writers of the Future" contest. BTW - No conspiracy theory stuff here, the anthology of winners is titled "L Ron Hubbard Presents the Writers of the Future".

Card is widely considered to be the "Liason" of the Church of Jesus Chrst of Latter Day Saints to the Church of Scientology for coordinating political action.

The Church of Scientology teaches that all Homosexuals who refuse to be cured using their methods should be rounded up and institutionalized, and that "The homosexual is actually quite ill physically... he is very far from culpable for his condition, but he is also far from normal and extremely dangerous to society."

His views honestly seem to be a bizarre mish mash of the worst of LDS and Scientology teachings about Homsexuality.
