Comments: Losing The Battle, But Winning The War

Use to be, this was a GOP only group wanting to preserve marriage. Now, we found out that 1.7 million Obama voters in California didn't want gay marriage. "Change" has come to the state of California. Obama voters have spoken.

It's only a matter of time now, Turkana. Sad that it wasn't struck down, but it will be soon. In a decade, no one will remember what the fuss was, I'm sure.

If you read Justice Moreno's dissenting opinion, it's not that sunny, especially for many of the minorities, religious groups, and women who supported Proposition 8. Essentially, the California Supreme Court majority's opinion guts the concept of equal protection under the law. That is, women, racial minorities, religious groups, have opened the door to themselves being targeted for discrimination.

“[T]he ‘absolute equality of all’ persons before the law [is] ‘the very foundation principle of our government.’ ” (Varnum v. Brien (Iowa 2009) 763 N.W.2d 862, 877.)

WASHINGTON – The Pentagon is prepared to leave fighting forces in Iraq for as long as a decade despite an agreement between the United States and Iraq that would bring all American troops home by 2012, the top U.S. Army officer said Tuesday.

Gen. George Casey, the Army chief of staff, said the world remains dangerous and unpredictable, and the Pentagon must plan for extended U.S. combat and stability operations in two wars. "Global trends are pushing in the wrong direction," Casey said. "They fundamentally will change how the Army works.""

Sure, we're winning the war...way to go

petie, what does your comment have to do with the CA Supreme Court decision? Put it in the open thread.

And it's good to know that "Gen. George Casey, the Army chief of staff" has a long range plan... I'd be more concerned about a short term plan if I was him or he will be without a job.
And just so you know petie (from wiki):

Like the other joint chiefs, the Chief of Staff is an administrative position and has no operational command authority over United States army forces.
