President Bush chose to make this a prime duty and now constitutional law professor, President Obama continues it. What's President Obama reading that Glenn isn't?
Nice to read that he plans on our military being in Iraq throughout his term and the next should he win re-election. That SOFA will be 'changed' sometime before it comes due.
Now, we read that General Petraeus feels Gitmo should be closed. Wonder when this president will submit his plan? Oh and what a wonder Senator Reid is? 'Changing' his mind again on this topic.
Posted by peter at May 27, 2009 04:30 AMPresident Bush chose to make this a prime duty...
By launching an unprovoked war which has now cost hundreds of thousands of lives and untold billions in national treasure while doing nothing to enhance his country's safety and tons to compromise it.
...and now constitutional law professor, President Obama continues it.
Glad to see you didn't specify that President Obama "chose" to continue it. President Obama was handed a situation in which we have hundreds of thousands of our fellow citizens engaged in violent conflicts around the world. A situation in which anti-American sentiment around the world has been greatly inflamed by his predecessor's actions. It would be the height of irresponsibility, and political folly, under these circumstances not to observe that keeping the nation safe is one of the most important roles he has as president.
So we can see that the miserable failure of the man who "chose" to place artificial emphasis on the "commander-in-chief" aspect of his job has somewhat forced the hand of his successsor into doing the same as part of his efforts to clean up the mess.
What's President Obama reading that Glenn isn't?
The same things George Bush wasn't reading? His daily intelligence briefs?
Nice to read that he plans on our military being in Iraq throughout his term and the next should he win re-election.
Yup, he's already done more planning ahead in a mere 4 months than George Bush and Dick Cheney did in 8 years in office.
Posted by snark at May 27, 2009 07:55 AMsnark, Bushco was planning; too bad it was how best they could steal as much of the treasury as they could before people caught on. Sadly, people caught on just in time to welcome a new president whereupon Bushco's plans to blame their theft on Dems came to full fruition. As for liberty over "safety," we've pretty much learned that the Republicans hate democracy, and will do anything to return to the era of the robber barons, or more likely, to feudal times. What's funny is that some of the peasants like peter think this is just fine and dandy, as long as they get to go "neener, neener" to people who dream of a real democracy. I dunno - being a slave mocking the other slaves doesn't seem like much of a win, but whaddaya gonna do with dumb like that?

Has Obama agreed to Gen. Casey's plans? Not a mention of it... give it a rest petie... still channeling "the Army chief of staff" as if he makes the President's policy for Iraq?
The General's job is to do precisely that, make long range plans. However, Casey better be more concerned about the short term plans of getting us out of Iraq and agreeing with SOFA or he will be out of a job.
Once again, just so you know petie (from wiki):
Like the other joint chiefs, the Chief of Staff is an administrative position and has no operational command authority over United States army forces.Posted by Seven of Six at May 27, 2009 09:15 AM
And this little gem from the AP article that petie forgot to mention:
Casey said his comments about the long war in Iraq were not meant to conflict with administration policies.Posted by Seven of Six at May 27, 2009 09:24 AM
All excellent first class reasoned, accurate refutations of peturd's delusions, speculations and fantasies.
Having said that we all know no amount of factual information or fact based reasoning will have the slightest impression on delusional idiots like peter or the other trolls..
They prove impervious to logic as loyal republikkkan traitors to the Constitution.

Of course the important thing is petie gets to place his hands over his ears and do his "na-na, na-na na's" to the rest of us, just to keep us in place..After all even morons have priorities.
Posted by headxray at May 27, 2009 12:40 PMprotect and DEFEND...not "defect", please correct before your post is used against us by the GOP mouth-breathers....
Posted by Craig at May 27, 2009 01:01 PMSnark, the president couldn't pull our troops out on his own authority? Is he being forced to keep them there? By whom? By our troops still being there, he's made his choice. What did he do about stem cell research? He chose to go in another direction. How about Gitmo? Another choice? He making choices all over the place whether we can afford them or not. And now we have casualties being taken on his orders. More choices...
Am I see double from headcase?
""We protest in the strongest terms the Obama administration's frequent use of briefings done on a background basis . . . especially when the same officials briefing often appear ubiquitously on television shows with similar information," said Jennifer Loven of the Associated Press, president of the White House Correspondents Association. She said this was particularly true on a Supreme Court nomination, "when the issue does not involve sensitive material such as national security information."
So much for transparency...
With the way unions have been reaping more and more considerations by the Obama administration in regard to bailouts. Many bondholders may withdraw or limit their investments in companies with unions.

How did all six of RLJ-McLarty-Landers Chrysler dealerships escape the closure notice? Who owns these dealers? Their competition is being eliminated. Take the Branson location, they get to remain open while three others nearby are shuttered.

AP: “Congress Moves to Withhold Photos of Alleged Detainee Abuse.” First our president listens to former VP Cheney, "dead eye dick", now our Congress is listening.
“The Lieberman-Graham provision would allow the defense secretary to certify to the president that release of photos or video taken between Sept. 11, 2001, and Jan. 22, 2009, of people captured by U.S. forces outside the United States would endanger lives. In such cases, the release could be prohibited for at least three years.”
Enjoy your evening folks!

How long has it been since Labor was put ahead of Capital?
A long fucking time!
Without capital, there is no labor.
Oh, and how much money are the Germans making with these bailouts of the car companies? Why are they getting preferred treatment?
Tell me Seven, are you willing to work for me? Why not?

Edjumacate yourself on why you're misinformed.
It’s the source of our current crisis. A huge amount of money going to a very few people at the top.
Posted by phidipides at May 27, 2009 08:00 PMWithout capital, there is no labor.
Without labor there is no bottom line.
After years of the "Robber Barons", Labor grew quite nicely and kept America afloat. Until the new "Robber Barons" came to power... Reagan's conservatives.
. . . there are more important goals then keeping us safe.
Heh, yeah. We've gone from "Give me liberty to give me death!" to "You don't have civil liberties if you're dead." (Oh, I so wish it had been Patrick McHenry saying that latter quote. The symbolism would have been so grand.)
In any case, Cenk's got it right. The Republican Party comprises nothing but cowards, and we're a country of cowards so eager to give up our rights to keep the boogey man away.

You might want a "redo" on your economics homework. Start with a Google search of "globalization."
Posted by Dr. Bellasario at May 27, 2009 11:27 PMThe more you demonstrate and revel in your ignorance, along with others proving it, the more you appear to enjoy it, shit head pete.,
You also show exactly why your cult and your "heroic leaders" like the coward dead eye dick head, are gone from office, looking at indictments here and abroad, as.well as why you are all discredited, idiotic assholes..the republikkkan cult and followers, the gifts that keep on giving..

OK, I looked up "globalization"... a damn good paragraph came up:
Alan Greenspan has proclaimed himself "shocked" that "the self-interest of lending institutions to protect shareholders' equity" proved to be an illusion... The Reagan-Thatcher model, which favored finance over domestic manufacturing, has collapsed. ... The mutually reinforcing rise of financialization and globalization broke the bond between American capitalism and America's interests. ...we should take a cue from Scandinavia's social capitalism, which is less manufacturing-centered than the German model. The Scandinavians have upgraded the skills and wages of their workers in the retail and service sectors—the sectors that employ the majority of our own workforce. In consequence, fully employed impoverished workers, of which there are millions in the United States, do not exist in Scandinavia.
You should be ashamed of yourself Dr. Bellasario, forcing your kids to supplement your income with a lemonade stand.
