...Nature who has an editorial explaining why it's okay for Psychologists to partake in torture.

Is that what the Nature editorial really said? I must have missed that part.

The editorial does include this;

And even if physical or mental torture could be shown to be effective in some immediate, tactical sense, that would be beside the point: torture is a violation of human rights and of international law, and is a threat to the long-term health of democracy. It is not to be tolerated.

Seems a bit less than an exhortation to Psychologists to take part in torture. Rather it seems the gist of the Nature editorial deals with the debate as to whether there is a legitimate role for Psychologists to play in ANY sort of interrogation. Unless one assumes that all interrogations inherently involve torture, human rights violations and/or violations of international law I don't quite see where the controversy is. In fact, I find the linked Firedoglake piece a bit lacking (willfully it would seem) in that respect. And the Nature editorial goes nowhere near telling Psychologists that it's "okay to partake in torture".

Investigate, indict, prosecute and jail the bastards. Res ipsa loquitor.

Isn't it time the blogosphere was all over Faux news to have Hannity waterboarded? Watched Mancow try it and he lasted 2 seconds before freaking out. The only way to deal with these sick bastards is to challenge them publicly and forced them to try the torture methods they seem to believe are so benign!!

I'm wondering how Malia and Sasha will view their Dad when they're old enough to realize he excused the torturers? If they are being raised with any sense of decency at all they will likely be very ashamed. On the other hand, they could pull a Liz Cheney.

Investigate, indict, prosecute and jail the bastards.

Nice job of explaining the rules for those of us who aren't politicians, torturers, or banksters.

I thought Obama said that it is upto the attorney general to prosecute. With the problems on his plate, I do not think it is wise for the president to push for torture presecutions at this time when he needs americans to unite to solve all these problems. By declaring that we will not authorize or torture, Obama has clearly shown where he stands.

Now I know that it is not enoough for the liberals. But you cannot govern by being extreme on one side or other. We saw last 8 years what happened when the country was governed by extreme conservative ideology.

“Many Missouri dealers are asking us why certain profitable dealers, costing the auto companies nothing, were selected for closure,” McCaskill, a Democrat, and Bond, a Republican, wrote to White House car czar Steve Rattner. “From this perspective it appears an arbitrary standard may have been used to make these decisions … these dealers deserve a little more than just a pink slip in the mail.” St Louis Business Journal

Then there's this from the NYTimes: "On Sotomayor, Some Abortion Rights Backers Are Uneasy

By CHARLIE SAVAGE
Published: May 27, 2009

"WASHINGTON — In nearly 11 years as a federal appeals court judge, President Obama’s choice for the Supreme Court, Sonia Sotomayor, has never directly ruled on whether the Constitution protects a woman’s right to an abortion. But when she has written opinions that touched tangentially on abortion disputes, she has reached outcomes in some cases that were favorable to abortion opponents."

EJ Dionne calls her "the most conservative choice that President Obama could have made." Let's get this done by September.

Peter:

So GM's decision to close certain dealerships is fault of Obama administration? As if they are telling GM what to do on everything. Is it not GM to decide how many dealerships to keep and where? Cosidering that GM is headed for bancrupcy court, what difference it makes? All dealerships will be in the same boat.

As for the supreme court nominee, as long as she is not conservative enough to overturn Roe v/s Wade, it is O.K. with me. The current US law about abortion is fair to all. It does not force abortion on women who do not want and it gives choice to women who want to consider it for some reasons.

All European countries regardless of their religion majority have similar laws. So is with other civilized countries such as Japan. It is time we put this debate behind us and move on.

Instead of trying to repeat the Repubs talking point, why don't you look at this woman's qualifications and inspirational life journey. Only in America this life journey is possible and for that we all should be very proud of our country.

Still trying to push the abortion thing, peter, even after you've been proven stupid?

Wait, never mind.

It's funny suresh haw out of the 789 Chrysler and 1100 GM dealerships. We can only find one that supported Obama's election. Try looking up RLJ-McLarty-Landers group which owns six Chrysler dealers

RLJ's owners "are Steve Landers (long-time car dealer, 4th-generation dealer), Thomas "Mack" McLarty (former Chief of Staff for President Clinton), and Robert Johnson (founder of Black Entertainment Television and co-owner of the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats)... McLarty campaigned for Obama in 2008, and Johnson has given countless amounts of money to Democrats over the years."

Peter makes me pro-abortion.

Posted by mike at May 28, 2009 08:11 PM

and shit brain pete's questions about party affiliation and car dealer ownership are completely debunked by Nate Silver who essentially found that almost all donations to political parties by car dealers were made to republikkkans...apparently "car dealers" don't support Dem candidates financially...

but butt munch pete won't let facts stop his lunatic statements...

Posted by headxray at May 28, 2009 08:36 PM

just to keep butt munch pete from whining...

car dealers are pukes

Posted by headxray at May 28, 2009 08:46 PM

Olbermann points out tonight... in December 2008, 151 republi-KKKon congress members, (including FL republi-KKKon congressman and Chysler dealership owner, Vern Buchanan) and all republi-KKKon Senators voted against the GM and Chrysler bailout.

That was the time to support the American Auto Industry petie!

And now you want to talk about failing dealerships and lost jobs?

Who has been trying to save the Auto industry?

You have no arguments... get out of the right wing while you still have chance!
