Comments: A Republican™ Reckoning

Eliminate the 2/3rds vote or end Prop13 and the libs will turn the state into Detroit. The state is already the highest taxed in the nation. There is already a net outflow of middle class and rich. You want to see Intel, HP, Cisco, Oracle, and biotech firms leave the state? (yes, they already are to some degree because labor and taxes are lower elsewhere, same thing as what is happening in Detroit).

Yes, I suppose one can always raise taxes, but the budgetary problems will not be solved by raising taxes. I wonder how much of an impovement in the CA financial picture there would be if medical costs were removed from the picture.

Treating sick people under the current system will bankrupt us all sooner or later.

If you mean that medical costs would be provided by National Health Care, there would be absolutely no improvement in the CA financial picture, because the costs would still have to be paid. The financial picture may worsen under your scenario.

It may cost more, because of simple demand-supply economics. Demand would increase, because those who do not have health coverage would now have health coverage. But the supply of doctors, nurses, and facilities would remain the same. When demand outpaces supply, prices rise.
