The new Star Trek was great! I hope it becomes a franchise, cos I want more of the new Scotty. And Colbert's doing a great job, I love his new haircut.

BTW, anyone else notice how the right is now embracing the DHS report on right wing extremism, not by admitting they were wrong about it, but they're using the speculation that an uptick in violence could be due, in part, to economic troubles? I've seen trolls all over try to use this, without mentioning the DHS report. And they're blaming Obama and the Left, for the economic mess the Republicans inflicted on us all. They've gone so far as to say that the neo-nazis are left wing, which is a laughable attempt at historical revisionism. I wonder, was that stupid Goldberg "liberal fascism" screed put out to provide cover for the terrorist that hit the holocaust museum? It would be irresponsible not to speculate - I think he should be investigated for his involvement in the whole thing. Obviously, the freepers are involved, having lauded the killer as a hero, then scrubbed their websites when the killer got busted. Time to tap their phones, eh, see how much support they're giving the right wing terrorists?

Mary - I saw Star Trek 3 times, not including the one I d/l'd for my wife whom was laid up and unable to get to a theater with me. If you don't have fits about continuity and can accept a new history, most people will enjoy it. I have issues with the new Uhura, her character is far more defined by her romantic relationship than her own personality or abilities. The latent asshole with Jim Kirk is now extroverted. I could have used more Karl Urban, but I tend to be a McCoyish person.

It's a summer movie, its Star Trek, its great - just don't mind the plot holes or other intrusions of reality.

I noticed Colbert wore a hat for the entire broadcast the following night. Heh.

You're right, Karl Urban was McCoy. Perfect for the role. But I thought it was Uhura who saved the day, by being smart and resourceful. The only plot hole I saw was the red matter thingy - if a tiny bubble of it created a wormhole, wouldn't a big blob of it tear open the universe?? Heehee!

I haven't seen last night's Colbert yet, but I really loved the MP, Robin, who didn't let him get away with ignoring women in the military. She was great.

Sicker than the sick... there is actually a group of anti-abortion activists who were jailed for protesting Focus on the Family. Whew, that's what you really call, "right wing extremism."
