Not to put "too" fine of a point on it but:
A) Don't both of Iran's leading presidential candidates advocate the nuclear option?
B) Don't both of Iran's leading presidential candidates back a "Theocratic Dictatorship" form of government for Iran?
C) Doesn't the REAL difference between Iran's leading presidential candidates come down to who is more henpecked and a difference of opinion about "optional vs mandatory" peek-a-boo forehead head scarf fashions? No...SERIOUSLY?????
D) Does the political murder of a very attractive young Iranian woman (who was a bystander - not a protester) in Iran deserve all this press in light of the "thousands" of "less attractive" African women that are being raped and slaughtered wholsale by "muslims" on a daily basis but can't get McCain or Graham or VULF BLITZER to speak out(for political/corporate profit?) on their behalf?
D) Does the heavy presence of so many Iranians here in America (HOLLYWOOD HIGH?)using, and being used by the MSM to forment "back-door" revolution make anyone besides me a little nervous? Anybody got the number to DHS handy? No...SERIOUSLY...WTF?
E) Does wishing for a revolution in Iran to replace a Theocratic Dictatorship with a Neo-Liberal Corporate Fascist Wet Dream make it so?
WT(F) Did anyone else besides me notice how "VERY" uncomfortable "PRESIDENT" Obama was in answering questions about his solutions for HIGH DOUBLE-DIGIT MINORITY UNEMPLOYMENT, posed by an African American reporter?
G)(ee)Did anyone else think his "terse" answer was: "Yeah, that sucks, but don't hold your breath until we distract you with another program, Ah-ight?"
HHS) Was that an example of his now-famous EMPATHY...??????
I)(yi-yi) Why did the African-American reporter get called on....uh....next to last? Uh, "Movin' on Up"?
My, My how things have changed at "Changey Place"
BTW, do any expatriots from Sudan live in America?

PS.
Wouldn't it be more HUMANE for Angelina and Madonna to use their great wealth to sponsor an "entire" African family for US citizenship rather than STEALING their children by bribing a corrupt African government and using them as the new Neo-Liberal Hollywood props? Isn't that sorta disgusting?
Posted by Domino49 at June 23, 2009 09:09 PMWhat, like people are supposed to understand history and why it is relevant today? It's more fun to be an ignoramus and shoot one's mouth off. It feels good to pretend you care about the people or Iran and other people don't. It's pretty much like putting a magnet on your SUV saying "support the troops".
People other than the president certainly have more latitude to talk about Iran, but nobody seems able to say what good could come from offering vocal support.
Posted by CA Pol Junkie at June 23, 2009 10:04 PMDomino49, people see Mousavi as Iran's answer to Gorbachev. Although he comes from the establishment, his leadership could usher in more fundamental change. Now that Khamenei has bet everything on the rigged election and keeping the protesters down with violence, bring Mousavi to power will also cause structural change to the Iranian government.
Posted by CA Pol Junkie at June 23, 2009 10:10 PMI've stated this before on a previous thread, Obama is playing this correctly. No need for him to meddle, let you-tube, twitter and other tech expose this phony regime for what it is. The world and especially the Arab world will finally see Islamic suppression at it's finest. I was certainly no supporter of Bush, but he was probably correct in the aspect of his policy that the Islamic world really needs transparent democracy. Unfortunately for us he used ham-handed big-stick policies to get his message through. Bad mistake. Obama is much more clever than that.
Posted by sf at June 23, 2009 11:21 PMThere isn't going to be a revolution in Iran in the near future. If anything, moderates are going to be in a worse position than the last election.
Posted by purple at June 24, 2009 02:34 AMI think the President is handling it perfectly. Anything that is a problem in Iran is always blamed on US. This way the whole world including the Muslim world will know that US has nothing to do with whatever is happening in Iran. It is by the people of Iran. A clever move than cowboy diplomacy.
Posted by suresh at June 24, 2009 07:54 AMif anything, Obama's statement yesterday was too provocative and extensive for a US prez to make---my guess is the WH felt they had to "respond" to the wingnut branch (McDoof, etc) and the hectoring corporate press. Thus, they talked too much and didn't do a thing to aid the reformers.
I would have thought that the US and EU nations could confer and decide which PM/prez/nations would carry the ball on the rhetoric and begin to call for sanctions---it can't be us, nor has Mousavi called for anything from the US.
Remember---EVERYTHING that US conservatives call for is EXACTLY the wrong thing to do, always. In that sense, they are quite valuable. Our idiot Col Klinks of the Right......
Posted by euzoius at June 24, 2009 08:12 AMCAPol, your first comment was on the money.
Your second response..not so much.
It is the height of lunacy for us to buy into the NeoCon/MSM "wet dream revolution" in Iran. The leadership in Iran is playing "musical chairs" while NeoCons are trying to gin up "Saturday Night Fever". It is beyond belief that the MSM is exploiting the death of Neda with "shock (commercial supported) graphics", for corporate profits.
An honest look at the history of US/Iran political relations would quickly conclude that Iran, among other nations, was a political/cultural victim of US/USSR Cold War political expediency. Let's not even start talking about our overt and covert "use" of Saddam in his genocidal (chemical weapons?) war against Iran. Notice how the so-called "defanged" Russians are talking shit and trying to exploit the Iranian tragedy for their "oil war" against Europe?
A new low for C-Span was carrying a very lengthy propaganda interview by the "EX-Prince of Iran", the ex-Shah's son, as he tried to exploit the tragedy in Iran for his own personal profit. WTF is this guy even doing in the US? Oh Yeah, trying to "IMPROVE" US/Iranian diplomatic relations.
I am not a pants-wetter but, I have serious concerns about the MSM being exploited by an Iranian-American(?) actress discussing the tragedy in Iran while hyping her new "independant" film. She's the SELL-OUT that played an Arabic character on "24" for cryin' out loud. Yeah, she's REALLY down for the cause all right.
IMHO, the Iranians have become exactly what we forced them to become..a paranoid Theocratic Dictatorship. Any hope for better relations between our nations, as planned by President Obama's diplomatic strategy, has been throughly undermined by "Wrongway" McCain (who obviously and proudly failed every history class he took), Graham (Neo-Lite) and the corporate exploitation by our MSM. Their answer to EVERYTHING is: "If we can't exploit it, KILL IT", but make sure we have it on tape to boost our ratings.
The real tragedy is that Isreal now has a "clean" propaganda victory to exploit as a justification for a future nuclear strike on Iran. If that happens, all bets are off and the Muslim world is going to shit a brick...on America and our allies, despite Obama's sensible diplomatic strategy.
He's being boxed into a corner and will soon be marginalized by the NeoCons and their corporate stooges in our MSM, as demonstrated by his last presser.
We've been had by the NeoCons....AGAIN...!!!
